- Chapter Thirty One -
I continued glaring at Liam as he scowled at me, gently rubbing the spot on his chest where I had hit him with a petulant glare. He didn't answer for a while which only caused me to raise an eyebrow.
"Come on, the suspense is killing me." I snapped, folding my arms across my chest. I'd been in the dark with Liam for too long now and it was about time it came to an end and I got some of the answers that I deserved. When he caught the impatient stare I was giving him, he gently sighed before slowly lowering his hand from the spot he had previously been rubbing.
"You want answers." He said quietly, his blue eyes glaring at me in the darkness. I snorted in disbelief, lowering my arms from their crossed position as I shook my head. He let out a small chuckle. "Guess that was kind of an obvious thing, huh?" He laughed, shooting me a sheepish grin through the dark as he brought his hand up to rub the back of his neck.
I simply raised an eyebrow, before letting out a simple chuckle. I'd missed him, there was no denying that. I missed being able to have these stupid little pointless conversations with him. I missed being with him.
"Need I remind you, the others are waiting."
I shot a glare over my shoulder at Red Eyes, annoyed at the interruption.
He simply glared back at me, his lip curling into a sneer as we stared back at each other challengingly for a few moments.
"Ass." I grumbled before turning back around to face Liam. I was a little taken aback to see his usually calm expression now tense and mildly irriated as he glared at the towering vampire behind us.
"Thanks for the reminder, Marcus." The tone in his voice made me tense up slightly. I wasn't use to this Liam; cold and strict. It wasn't a Liam I wanted to see or be around frequently.
"Your name's Marcus?" I scoffed, turning around to the burning red eye stare of the man that actually had a name. "Red Eyes suits you better."
His eyebrows scrunched together in confusion as he gave me a disgruntled look. "Red Eyes? Really?"
My lips formed into a grin but I didn't reply only causing his eyes to narrow at my silence. A small growl echoed around us as he stared at me. I was about to retort with a sarcastic response before a hand snaked around my waist and pulled me tightly to them. I squeaked in surprise as I looked up, only to see Liam frowning disapprovingly at Red Eyes. He glared at him for a few more moments, his grip on me tightening slightly before turning his glare down to me.
"Stop provoking him." He chastised gently but with a scolding tone. I simply rolled my eyes, feeling myself feel more comfortable and relaxed in the old vampire's grip. How old was Liam? I mean being an Original meant he was probably thousands of years old, right? But somehow that didn't that bother me.
'Marcus' looked at us in disgust, his expression gradually growing even more and more distasteful the longer he looked. After a while he simply shook his head, grumbling something indistinct under his breath before storming down the corridor and slamming the large metal door shut behind him as he disappeared.
"Did someone shit in his Cheerio's or something?" I asked, craning my head to look up at Liam from the tight embrace he still held me in.
Liam looked down at me and chuckled affectionately. Butterflies erupted in my stomach as he stared down at me, his piercing gaze holding me in a trance. His eyes flickered down to my lips for a moment before he brought his lower lip between his teeth, a look of wondering and inner turmoil spreading across his flawless features.
"Marcus is just a miserable person in general." He whispered, the warmth of his breath flushing my cheeks slightly. I smirked up at him, opening my mouth to retort when the metal door slammed open once again.
I huffed in annoyance, pulling out of Liam's grip as he frowned in an annoyed manner at the figure in the doorway.
"Come on, then." The voice snapped in a rushed manner. I raised an eyebrow at the familiar voice of Marcus but said nothing in retaliation.
I saw Liam turn to me from the corner of my eye and in a split second he grabbed a hold of my hand, squeezing it reassuringly as he slowly started leading my down the hall. As we walked, the corridor seemed to get longer and longer the further we trudged on. My breath caught in my throat as the door got closer to us, a feeling of dread settling in the pit of my stomach. I thought I was going to be fine with talking to the Originals, the highest of our hierarchy, or the closest things we vampires had to a hierarchy, but the closer the moment came, the less prepared and comfortable I felt with the situation.
I gulped slightly, shutting my eyes for a moment in order to regain some of the confidence I had tried to bury specifically for this moment. They've never met me before so they wouldn't know what a smart-ass I was under pressure. It wasn't even something I could control anymore, but I would have to try if I didn't want to piss them off. I opened my eyes quickly, the light of the room Liam had pulled me into suddenly surrounding me and wrapping around all my senses.
A pair of cold hands wrapped around my forearms and spun me around to face them. I looked up slowly and smiled half-heartedly at Liam who was staring at me with a concerned expression.
"I'm not going to let them hurt you, Brook." He stated, staring at me seriously. I took in a deep breath before slowly letting it out as a small attempt to calm myself down. I nodded my head, knowing that he meant that. He stared at me for a few more moments, the concerned expression re-appearing before he gently grabbed the back of my head and pulled it towards him. I closed my eyes and placed my hands on his chest as he kissed my forehead, pulling me close to him as he did so.
We stood there in silence, just enjoying this moment where we were both in contentment with one anothers company. Well we were until the sounds of footsteps could be heard from the floor above us. I pulled away from Liam's embrace, feeling a lot calmer than I had to begin with and took the moment to look around the room we were currently stood in.
There were rows upon rows of bookshelves all covered in different coloured and elaborated books. A small ladder was pushed up against one of the taller bookshelves and was just to the side of a large fireplace that reminded me of the one at home. Red carpets covered the dark wooden floor and there were velvet armchairs and couches spread around the room.
It looked similiar to the sitting room where I would just sit and talk to my brothers when we were younger...
"Shit." I cursed aloud, my eyes suddenly becoming wide. My brothers. SHIT.
They're probably having a head fit, right now. I thought to myself as I brought a hand up to run it through it my hair in agitation. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Did they know where I was?
Obviously not, if they did they'd be here kicking ass right now.
Liam simply stared at me in confusion at my sudden agitation and outburst and cocked an eyebrow as I shook my head, biting my lip. I opened my mouth to explain when a sudden chuckle echoed around us, causing both Liam and I to snap our heads around in the direction it came from. I frowned up at the tall man that stood at the top of the staircase that was situated in the centre of the room and led up to a long corridor that probably expanded throughout the entire mansion.
I took a step forward to greet the obvious Original but before I could even say 'hello' Liam had grabbed my waist once again and pulled me behind him faster than I could even comprehend what was happening. I let out a huff as I stared angrily at the back of his head, noticing how his hand was still held firmly on my waist while the other was clenched tightly by his side as he stared at the man in the suit who had begun to descend the stairs, a smirk present on his face.
I cocked my head to the side, thoughts of my brothers and all worry I had felt about meeting Liam's family were no long gone as I stared at the man. His brown hair was slightly messy across his forehead and the smirk he wore was one I had seen many times before. And despite never seeing him before, he seemed so familiar.
"Kol." Liam hissed, his grip on my waist tightening in a possessive manner. Even though I couldn't see his face, I could tell that he was probably sneering at 'Kol' right now. I raised an eyebrow at his venemous tone, one he had been using a lot recently.
"Please do stop lashing out, brother. We only wish to talk to her." Kol spoke, finally reaching the bottom of the stairs although his hand stayed on the edge of the banister as he smiled professionally at Liam and I. Then he did something I didn't expect, he locked eyes with me and motioned with his hand for me to walk over towards him. I swallowed quietly, shooting Liam an unsure glance as he was obviously not moving from his protective stance but simply shrugged and pulled away from his grip and headed towards Kol.
I saw that Liam was indeed staring at Kol with a hard expression and didn't look like he was letting up anytime soon. I only managed to take two steps before Liam let out a possessive growl and pulled me back behind him, causing me to roll my eyes as I allowed to him to hold me tightly behind him.
"She can hear you just fine from here." He growled at his brother, causing Kol to raise an eyebrow at Liam's obvious protective behaviour.
"As you wish." Kol complied, shrugging like he honestly didn't care either way. He then stared at Liam for few more moments before snapping his gaze over to me, a dazzling white smile soon following as he folded his arms in front of him. "Hello Brooklyn."
I grimaced at the use of my full name but pushed down a retort. I simply raised my eyebrows and shot a small wave over Liam's shoulder as he unconciously tightened his girp on me, causing my eyes to widen slightly. If he gripped me any tighter, he was going to break my leg. Kol ignored my sudden movement and continued to smile before gesturing around him, moving closer to Liam and I as he did so.
"Welcome to Mikaelson Manor."
