Joella's POV

Today was the day of my surgery and I was so nervous. Especially since my doctor had said they were going to take my ovaries out and make sure the cancer hasn't spread to any where else in my body.

Growing up, I always had the worse menstrual cycles ever and I had mentioned that to the doctor and she told me it that there was a possibility of the cells always being there but they were never in cancer form.

"I'll be right here waiting when you get out of surgery baby." Matt smiled at me and kissed me softly.

"Okay." I nodded slightly, "I love you Matt. Thank you for being there for me despite everything we've been though, for never giving up on me."

"And I love you. But Ells, you don't have to thank me for that, I did it out of love. You're talking like you're not going to come out of this surgery but you are. You are going to make it through."

"We never know what can happen. Anything can happen during this surgery."

"Okay but we should be thinking positively not negatively."

When the nurses came to get me for surgery, Matt and me kissed each other then they rolled me out of the room.

Matt's POV

I watched as they rolled Joella through the double doors then I went to the waiting room to see her parents finally made it.

"Hey, we just got here. They wouldn't let us back there. Sorry we're late traffic was backed up on the highway because of construction that i forgot was happening." Joseph stated.

"No, it's okay. They just took her back for the surgery." I smiled some.

"Did they say how long will the surgery take?" Eloise asked.

I nodded, "They had said that if everything goes well it should only take at least an hour. And she'll have to stay in the hospital for up to a week, depending on how well she recovers afterwards."

I then decided to update everyone on what was going on. And I'd let them know that I'd update them as soon as I know anything else.

"Hey mom, how's the twins doing?" I had decided to call my parents.

"They're doing good. Nyla just feel back asleep. Your dad has Kingsley now. He just got done eating and he's trying to get him to sleep but he's not wanting to."

"Yeah, they're definitely not on the same schedule, no matter how much we've tried they just won't." I chuckled.

"I swear he's exactly like you were when you were a baby."

"Yeah I can imagine."

"How's things with Joella?"

"It's going, she's in surgery. Has been for about." I looked up at my watch, "45 minutes now. Haven't heard anything yet but I should be here in about 20 minutes or so I'm sure."

As I watched the time go past an hour of Joella being in surgery, I started getting more nervous that something bad was happening that would cause them to go longer than the hour they said it would take.

"Any word?" I turned around to see Brian and Michelle walk into the waiting room.

"Not yet." I shook my head, "I'd think I would have heard something by now. They said it only takes an hour but yet it's been over that." I ran my hands through my hair.

As if on cue though a doctor walked in, "Mr Sanders?"

"Yes? How's my wife?"

"She's in a stable condition. She in recovery right now and she'll be moved to a regular room and ready for visitors soon."

"Did everything, cancer wise get removed?"

"As far as we can tell yes." The doctor nodded, "Whenever Joella is awake and coherent we'll let you both know the further details of the surgery."

"That's fine, it's only right she knows everything before I do." I let out a breath of air and couldn't help but smile, "But she'll be okay and she'll survive for long time?"

"She will." The doctor nods with a smile.

Joella got moved to a patient room and was ready for visitors so Matt went up and waited until she woke up.

She woke up and blinked a few times before looking over and seeing Matt messing on his phone.

Joella's POV

Looking at Matt he was so focused on his phone with his fingers resting on his lips that he didn't notice I had woken up.

I decided to take that moment to mess with him, "Who are you?"

He quickly looked up at me, "Hey you're awake. How are you feeling?" He stood up, putting his phone in his pocket.

He went to kiss me but I moved my head away from him.

"Why are you kissing me? Who are you?"

He looked at me with a confused look as he stood back up straighter, "What do you mean? I'm Matt, your husband."

"What?! That can't be." I shook my head, "I don't have a husband. Where am I? What happened?"

"Babe, you are in the hospital. You just had surgery to remove some cancer that had grown inside you."

"I had cancer?"

"Not anymore if everything went well. You honestly don't remember any of this?"

"No." I said innocently, "So we're married? How long have we been married?"

"For a couple years now, we have two beautiful babies. Nyla and Kingsley."

"Oh. It's hard to believe I'd ever marry you. I always thought marry a female. But to marry a male, wow I bet my family was surprised that happened." I said matter of fact, trying my hardest to not crack a smile.

"Are you sure you're feeling okay?"

"I'm feeling good."

"I'm going to get a doctor or a nurse. This can't be right."

He started to Walk away but I grabbed his wrist.

"I'm only fucking with you babe." I smirked pulling his wrist towards me.

"Hm is that so?" He smirked back.

"It is." I smiled. "I'm sorry I couldn't resist."

"You're so lucky you just had surgery or I'd get you for that." He bent over and kissed me.

Just then the doctor walked in.

"Hello, sorry to interrupt."

"No it's okay." Matt smiled some at the doctor as he stood up straight.

"So, how'd everything go? Am I cancer free now?"

The doctor nodded slightly, "As far as we can tell, yes. Now unfortunately after we started the surgery we discovered that the cancer cells wasn't in your left ovary but it had spread to your uterus. At first we thought we'd have to take the whole uterus out but fortunately we was able to just cut out the cancer cells from the uterus."

"So I'm basically only missing one ovary?"

"Yes ma'am." The doctor nodded, "With you still being young, we wanted to go that route instead of taking everything if we didn't have to. Now recovery, the minimum days you'll possibly stay here is 3 days, if everything heals the way it should."

I was so thankful that I was in the clear and that everything went good with my surgery and that I had as pretty much in the clear cancer wise.

Unfortunately I did have to stay almost a week in the hospital. Right before I left they had ran some more tests and everything came back negative which was great.

A Year Later

Joella and Matt's relationship was still going strong, their babies were growing at a normal rate and you couldn't even tell they had been born weeks early.

As for Joella and her health, she went in for a check-up and thankfully the cancer had not came back and so she was still fully healthy.

They had made a decision that even though there was a possibility of more kids, they weren't going to even try, that if it happens it happens. But they were equally content with having just the twins.
