Attack on Titan: A Friendship Torn Apart

19:16, 10 December 2018

Just to warn any readers who may become confused, this story takes place in the modern day world and not the universe of Attack on Titan. Enjoy! :)

It was another day at Attack High. I carried a heavy backpack over my back, and crossed in my arms was a book or three. I was on my way to English class. I was looking forward to seeing Armin that bell, since we have the same class and we sit right next to each other.

Down the same hall to the classroom, I nearly dropped my books as my jaw drops at the sight that laid before me. Armin and Eren….were fighting?! And not fighting with words...but fist?!

I was completely shocked. If anyone knows Armin well enough, they would know that Armin dislikes fighting. So what could have possibly happened to cause this?

“I know the reason why you never fight me.” I hear Eren speak calmly to Armin as he kicks his knee into Armin's stomach quite roughly. “It's because you knew how you could never beat me.”

I have no idea what just happened between the two, but I know Eren is at least wrong on this one. Armin never fought Eren because he knows he can't beat him. Sure, Armin probably knows this. But the reason he's never fought Eren before...it's because…

Armin doesn't like fighting

Eren, your his best friend

For the two to fight…. something absolutely horrible would have had to happen between the two.

Before Eren could hurt Armin more than he's already did, the teachers and counselors split the two apart and dragged them away into the principal's office.

Standing by the wall was Mikasa, her brows furrowed and her eyes filled with countless of streaming tears. She looks as though her heart has been completely shattered.

I hurry over to her and in concern, asked her what happened and if she was alright. She stutters out how Eren hates her before grabbing me into a close and tight hug, causing me to drop all of my books as she cried hard and sobbed  into my shoulders.

I return a hug and I couldn't stop wondering to myself what on Earth may had happened between the Trio….

I sat alone in my English class. Everyone in awhile I would glance over to my right side to see a empty seat where Armin should have been sitting right now.

The teacher would lecture the class the whole bell over the subject we we're studying, and I would write down notes front and back of my paper. Since Armin wasn't here, I made sure to copy everything I written on an extra sheet of paper to give him later today.

We have several of the same bells together, so if he's not sent home or suspended, I should be able to give this to him to study and look over.

Soon enough, the bell rings and it's time to switch into class. I didn't have Armin in my next class, but the following class after, we had together.

I enter the Algebra class and grab myself the worksheet the teacher was handing around, and I sit myself at my table and begin to read over the mathematical problems we were expected to get started on upon stepping in the classroom.

After a minute or two, I am surprised upon hearing the chair next to me creek, and I jerk my head towards my right to see Armin sitting himself down. His bangs shadowed his face, so I couldn't tell how he was feeling at the moment.

I quickly get into my backpack, grab out my English folder and take out Armin's notes and gently sit it by him. “I-Its notes from English.” I tell him softly. I couldn't help but to feel a bit nervous, afraid of saying something wrong. I'm sure Armin wasn't in much of a bright mood…

He gives me a blank and empty thanks before taking the notes and putting it into his book bag by his feet. Oh-no…he must be feeling worst than I thought. Armin never avoids eye contact with me unless he's feeling embarrassed, nervous, or humiliated. But I know this time, it was something else.

He was a lot quieter than usual as he stared blankly at the math paper. I took a quick peek and no light appeared to be in his eyes. It's almost as though he's feeling...dead on both the inside and outside?

But then moments later, I noticed a change in his eyes. A look I've never quite seen before. His ocean eyes had a sharp fiery glare in them. He...he seems broken in the inside, but at the same time angry. And Armin is never angry. Something completely awful would have had to taken place for him to gotten angry.

“Um…” I stutter, trying to say something, but I trailed off saying nothing in the end. I wanted to say something to him, but I don't want to accidentally offends him or get on his nerves. I'm not exactly the type who is good at cheering people up after all…

Armin had bruises all over his face, and it looked like he had blood cleaned off. Geez, Eren's going to pay for hurting Armin so horribly…

“Um...did something happen between you and Eren?” I managed to stutter out this time. But my voice wavered in nervousness.

“I…don't want to talk about it.” Armin quietly replies. “Okay…” I nod as I return my attention to my work, seeing how he wants to be left alone.

Usually I need mountains of help from Armin when it comes to math, but this time since Armin seems to be having a rough day so far, I decide to try to figure out the Algebra myself.

The majority of the work I wrote out I honestly don't feel confident about. For all I know all the steps and answers I wrote out could be completely wrong. But at least doing this, I won't be bothering Armin…

Throughout the day, Armin was just silent and never really uttered out a single word to me since Algebra. Eventually during our final class, he lets out a sigh and asked me to come with him outside. Perhaps he was thinking of telling me everything that happened earlier?

The teacher had no problem excusing us out the room, and Armin leads me out the hall to talk. After a short moment of silence, I decided to break it by asking…

“W-What is it?”

Before answering, Armin lets out a small sigh before replying…

“Eren...he's changed. It's like he's a completely different person. I honestly don't even know him anymore. I knew him so well, I could read him like a book. But now...I can't seem to understand him. And he...he said things he shouldn't. He hurt Mikasa...and I can't forgive him. The trio….has split up.”

I couldn't believe everything I was hearing Armin say. His words were very slow, and careful. But as he told me these things, it sounded as though he could break at any given moment. My heart begins to throb as a painful feeling of sadness stabbed at it.

Mikasa told me earlier that Eren said that he hates her...and she cried so hard. I never saw Mikasa like that before. And I never saw Armin get into a fight before either. Eren….whatever he's done to these two is unforgivable. And I won't simply stand for it. I'm going to get some answers from him.

But for now, I just want to be there for Armin and Mikasa and to comfort them. I wanted to say something to Armin. Perhaps an I'm Sorry. But usually this word does nothing at times. I didn't want to hurt Armin more by saying this. I mean, some people really hate being told I'm Sorry by others whenever an unfortunate event has taken place.

Yes, I felt pity for what happened. Especially since the three of us have always been friends, and knowing that Eren has done something to hurt Armin and Mikasa to the extreme….also hurts me.

I Know hearing an I'm Sorry is probably the last thing Armin wants to hear right now. Especially since he and Mikasa are hurting more than I am at the moment. So all I could really do, was stay quiet and give Armin a close hug. Sometimes words aren't needed when you want to comfort someone.

Armin returns my embrace and begins to cry hard into my shoulder. I continued to hug and Pat his back as this was all I could do at the time.

________________________________________________________________________________

Eren….I'm never ever forgetting what he has said and done. I can't bring myself to forgive him, but in time I will learn to let go. But...I'm never going to forget any of what he has said and done to hurt Mikasa and Armin.

Never am I going to let Eren take even a single step closer to these two. He's made enough damage as is. There's no reason for him to increase the pain he's inflicted upon them.

Eren said so many despising and hateful words towards Mikasa. He even went so far as to say that the day her parents were murdered and when she was abducted...the moment she killed one of the bandits to save Eren, she died. She was no longer the same person she once was, Which is completely untrue. He even added that Mikasa truly does not care about him, and it's just in her blood. What the hell?!

I will never forget and for now, forgive Eren for saying such cruel and harsh words to Mikasa. It was completely uncalled for.

Eren said so many harsh and cruel things about how Armin's opinions towards politics is absolutely wrong. How foolish, friendships should never be ruined over stupid politics! But then he said because Armin desires peace upon both sides in a war, that it's pathetic and he includes how he's been noticing Armin hanging out with Annie more at School. He says he believes Armin has developed a Crush on her and how because of that Armin has grown too soft. He even calls Armin absolutely useless! The freaking nerve the yeager has...but anyway, he lastly adds how Armin isn't himself and is being possessed by something like Satin. What the hell?!

Armin, becoming enraged not because of the things Eren said to him, but rather to Mikasa, attempts to fight Eren. This was when I arrived and saw Eren beating the shit out of my dear Armin.

Knowing the whole story once I spoke to Eren, by the end of it, he could tell from the look on my face, from the hot anger burning upon it, from the tears streaming from my eyes, and from the constant rattling of my hands, that I was upset and angry with him.

He says if I'm so angry, that I should just fight him. But as much as it would be pleasing to slap that Yeager in the face, I bite down on my teeth before telling him no that I wouldn't step low on an even lower level than him before giving him the harshest glare I've ever given anyone before in my life. After that, I left.

After School I invite Mikasa and Armin over to my house, and we hang out and I comfort them and try to cheer them up more. The trio Mikasa, Armin, and Eren has split up. Eren's friendship with his childhood friends was over. But now….there was a new trio. And that consisted of Mikasa, Armin, and myself.

I will always stay by these two's sides no matter what. I will always be there for them. And never will I ever let Eren go near them again. And never, will I especially ever let him hurt them again.

The End
