Chapter 24

Hana's POV

After Crowley's uncomfortable question, I had decided to stay quite, not wanting to go further into the topic of this so called mate thing. With nothing else to do my eyes soon started wandering around the room. There still wasn't a lot to look at. The sun was ever so slowly starting to rise.

My eyes drifted unvolunteraly towards Crowley again. He seemed so calm and collected, it both soothed and frustrated me at the same time. I have never seen anyone so... so laid-back all the time, not even other blood sucking nobles. In the heat of a fight he seems to enjoy himself even.

Now that I wasn't being watched by his intense gaze I gave myself the opurtunity to really look at him for once. He has red bangs, while the rest of his hair is a dark brown. His hair seems to have the same lenght at the top and the back, but its a lot longer in a single back section which is kept in a simple braid. Overall a weird hairstyle if you ask me.

His eyes, altough down cast at the moment reading over a paper, were the signature red all vampires had. A single fang stuck out of his mouth, which always seemed to smile a little.

He leaned back into his chair, giving me a better view of his torso. My gaze slowly drifted downwards, catching on his displayed chest again. I quickly averted my gaze, heat rising to my face. What the hell are you doing Hana! Focus! This is a blood sucking vampire in front of you who has killed hundreds if not thousands of humans!

"You're blushing" Crowley says suddenly. I jurk up at the sound of his voice and the comment.

I glare at him, my cheecks heating up even more.

"Am not!" I say defensively.

Crowley snorts, indicating that he doesn't believe me for one bit, but he doesn't push it. His gaze only returns to the document he has in his hand.

I keep glaring at him, I crossed my arms over my chest and one leg over the other.

After a few minutes of him reading, not glancing up at me a single time, and me glaring daggers at him, he finnally speaks, his eyes drifting back to mine.

"Why are you glaring at me? Don't get me wrong, I love the attention. But why?"

"I'm hoping if I concetrate hard enough you will magically combust." I answer with as much venom as I can muster.

Crowley lets out a hollow laugh but doesn't comment on it. He simply returns to his reading.

An whole hour passed by without any of us sying anything. He keeps his gaze on the paperwork while my gaze goes from his face, to the window behind him, to my feet and back again.

I finally can't take the silence any longer and decide to speak up first.

"Can I leave?" I would much more prefer behing in the storage room of a bed chamber than sit here any longer in the eery silence.

"Nope" He says, popping the "p". His gaze never wavering from the paper he is holding.

"Why? You don't need me in here for you to read those documents" I state in a matter of fact tone.

"I'm aware of that but I quite enjoy your company" He replies, still no eye contact.

I try a different approach, "I'm hungry."

This caught his attention, his eyes quickly turning to look at me. He stands up abtrubtly, letting the paper he was reading fall to the ground, already forgotten.

"I'll go see if I can find anything edible for you." He says and walks to the door. Before leaving though he turns back to look at me.

"Don't leave the room, I'll be back soon." He said sternly and closed the door behind him, his footsteps echoing down the hall.

I hadn't planned to be left alone like this in his office, but now that I had the chance I quickly stood up out of my chair. My legs immidietly starting to cramp from the awfull chair I have been sitting in for way to long. I stumble over to the other side of the desk. I check the windows but notice these are not meant to open. They were big enough for sure, but breaking the glass would make too much noise. That is if I ever got to Guren.

I turned my attention on the documents scattered on the table. Crowley had a messy kind of system, placing the already read documents in a heap on one side while the to be read papers are scattered over the rest of the table.

I started rumaging through the papers, ever so often glancing at the door to make sure Crowley hadn't returned yet.I don't know what I was looking for, maybe some information about my comrades whereabouts, or even better, information that I could use against the vampires.

Scanning the documents as quickly as I could I unintentionally started to sit down in Crowley's office chair. Realizing how comfortable the chair was I didn't bother to move either. Majority of the information on the documents was useless.

I started rummaging through his desk drawers instead. I knew I didn't have much time but I needed to find something useful. And to my surprise, I found a knife in one of the drawers. It wasn't cursed gear, but it was a dagger crafted for a vampire. It's metal strong enough to do some serious damage on a vampire, even kill them if used properly. I quickly took the knife and hid it in an inner pocket of my uniform. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it yet but knowing I had some type of weapon now helped me breathe a little easier.I closed the drawer and started looking at the remaining documents but movement near the door caused me to freeze.

Crowley was leaning against the door frame, a bowl in hand. He looked amused. "What are you doing?" He asked in a light voice, knowing fully well I was snooping.I straightened, remembering I was still sitting in his chair. "The other chair was uncomfortable, so I decided to sit here instead." I said innocently. We both knew I was caught red handed but if he was going to play dumb than I was more than happy to comply.

"I see." He says strolling over to the desk. He puts the bowl down and a spoon. It seemed to be some kind of soup."Apologies for the wait, we had to search the whole building for something a human could eat. We found a few cans of this stuff, it should suffice."He sat down in the same chair I had been sitting in and picked up a new document, continuing to read.I looked from the bowl back to him."You don't want your seat back?" I asked confused."I'm good, if you prefer sitting there than I'm fine with it." He replies, looking at me. His reply made feel weird and conflicted, I looked away and turned to eat the soup.It was cold, but I wasn't going to push my luck and request for it being heated. Although I have a feeling he would heat it in a heartbeat if I asked him to.

Don't think like that Hana, focus. First step is finding out more about Guren, then escape.I ate a few spoons of cold soup before looking up at Crowley again. He was still staring at me, an unreadable feeling dancing in his gaze.Suppressing the heat that threatened to rush up my face I cleared my voice."Where is lieutenant colonel Guren?"
