Chapter 22

12:10, 13 January 2023

I woke up abruptly. Looking around my unfamiliar suroundings in confusion. It took me a moment to remeber where I was, but when it all came back to me I closed my eyes again and pushed my face into the pillow. I had hoped it had been a bad dream, but apparently not.

I wasnt sure what had caused me to wake up, for I knew for certain that I was still too tired to have woken up from my slumber naturally. There was something off, but what?

Thats when I noticed I could see. My room should have been pitch black thanks to the lack of windows in the room. I had made sure to turn off the light next to the door-

The door! Why is it not closed?!

I knew for certain I had closed it properly when entering the room. I quickly stood up and made my way to the door that stood slightly ajar, which was letting the light stream in from the hallway. I opened the door further and peaked outside, the hallway was empty. The absence of windows in the hallway didn't help me determine how long I had been asleep for. The only source of light being the bright overhead lights hanging from the ceiling throughout the hallways.

I made my way to the restroom where I finally got an answer to one of my many questions. The window, altrough frosted over, was dark. Indicating that I had been asleep for at least a few hours. I knew going back to bed was futile so I decided to freshen up and head out.

As I was slowly and quitly walking along the corridor I tried coming up with plan on how to proceed. Vampires needed rest, altough relatively little compared to humans. If I was lucky maybe Crowley and the other two vampires were resting right now and would't notice me creeping around. I might even find another way out, or even better yet find Guren and get us both out.

My determination however started to weaken the closer I got the Crowley's office door. I realised it too was slightly ajar and the lights were on inside. If he's awake I should turn back and avoid him for as long as possible, I thought. But the chance of him just having left the room like that and gone his own way was enough for me to push on. I tiptoed towards the door, making sure I didn't make a singly sound. I slowly peeked inside the room and to my relief the room was in fact empty. I let out a shigh of reliew but it quickly cought in my throat at a breath of air hit the back of my neck. I whirled around only to see eye to eye with Crowley. He seemed amused by my suprise and quickly straightened. Standing as close to him as I did now, made me realize how short I was in comparison to him. Once standing straight my eyes looked straight into his chest, where I could not help myself but notice the few buttons that were left open to reveal his muscular chest.

Unless I wanted to step straight into his office I couldn't move away. But Crowley didn't seem at all bothered at our closeness.

"Were you looking for me?" He says amused, clearly happy that he had cought me sneaking around.

"I.." I started but didn't know how to continue. I couldn't tell him why I really had been snooping around at this time. But instead I went with a half truth.

"I couldn't sleep anymore." I say simple. Crossing my arms over my chest.

"I see. Well it is still relatively early in the morning, but I guess since you are here now anyway you could just as well give me company." He says and bends over me slightly to push open his office door more. I looked behind me at his office, nothing seemed to have changed since I was last in here except maybe for a few new stacks of pappers littering the desk.

I turned back to Crowley with a scowl on my face. "I'm not here to entertain you." I say in a matter of fact voice.

He shrughs, but his lopsided smile doesn't falter. "Whatever you say, but you don't have much of a choice right now so after you." he says.

I grind my teeth togheter but do as I'm told. I turn on my heel and march into the room and take my seat in the same chair that I had occupied earlier. Crowley slowly made his way to his side of the desk and started rearanging the papperwork. I had a hard time seeing what was written on the documents from where I sat so I decided to ask about them instead.

"What are those?" I ask bluntly. He looks up at me for a brief moment before focusing back on the papers. "They're reports, they came in a few hours ago." he says simply.

I try to dig a little deeper. "What kind of reports?" I ask this time.

"Sadly nothing of much interest. The reports mainly state things I already knew or at least assumed." he says without looking at me this time. He didn't sound irritated at my questions, more bored. So I decided to test the waters and see how much I can get to know.

"Like what?"

This time he puts down his papers and focuses on me entirely, his smile gone. I am certain I have irritated him now and my heart starts racing in my chest. Why did I have to be so reckless! He is a freaking vampire for god's sake, not some friend. He could literally start feeding of me whenever he wished and I wouldn't have the power to stop him. I braced myself, ready to fight if needed.

But to my surprise, he starts laughing.
