Chapter 7 | Slippery

22:41, 6 September 2024

- KYOKO POV -

- Two Years Ago -

"Don't you ever get bored around here?" Tatsumori said as he sighed and laid back on the grass.

Putting his hands behind his head, he grinned widely, letting his long green hair drape over his shoulders.

Looking over at him, I quickly looked away, not wanting to answer him. I had gone on my usual stroll around the mountain. But today - Tatsumori accompanied me.

Standing up, I started to walk back to the shrine. Behind me I could hear Tatsumori start to follow.

"Lady Kyoko!" A voice said. Turning right, I saw in the distance one of the villagers coming towards me. Out of breath he caught it and spoke," Lady Kyoko, there are many demons coming towards the village! We require your aid!"

"Lead the way." I said immediately.

But as I started to follow the villager, something grabbed my wrist.

Turning back I saw Tatsumori with a look I had never seen on him before.

"Don't go."

~

Going down to the side of the mountain I found myself near the waterfall where I liked to cleanse myself. The had been grueling to say the least, demons of all kinds who again had woke me up from my sleep, banging themselves against the barrier in an attempt to get in.

And now ... I was sweaty.

Setting down the bucket I had brought with me, I looked around me searching for demons. With the coast clear I walked deeper into the lake, finding myself standing close to a formation of rocks to my side.

It was then that I saw feet.

Looking up I met Sesshomaru's gaze, his eyes a shining wonder with the morning hue.

Strange ... I didn't even sense him. Why is he even here?

Taking a few steps forward I then lost my footing.

What the- before I could say anything I slipped on something and fell backwards into the water. With a loud splash, I fell going underneath the water.

What in the - How did I slip?!

Coming out from underneath, I moved the hair that had fallen over my eyes out of my face coughing out water I swallowed.

Still dying from my coughing fit trying to exhale water from my throat, I found in the corner of my eye that Sesshomaru still stood there on the rocks, wearing that unfazed look he always wore.

Walking towards him where I could stand evenly on the rocks, I found myself glaring at Sesshomaru.

He then turned his gaze away.

What? Why did he -

Looking down I noticed my robe was someways off my shoulders.

"Oh my-!" But before I could say another word I started to fall back again. But this time someone grabbed my waist and held me up; catching me.

Pools of yellow started at me as his beautiful white hair draped down like silk. But that feeling did not last as he then let go of me, causing me to drop back into the water.

"You - !"

Getting out of the water, Again, I saw that he started to walk away.

What in the world just happened?

~

Walking back to the shrine, I suddenly stopped dropping on one knee.

The pain in my chest was excruciating and my body started to shiver. The - the barrier is being broken down?

Closing my eyes I concentrated on my spiritual energy being extracted by the seals. I had made special seals to extract my spiritual energy if the barrier were to be on the verge of collapsing ... they are in effect.

Lifting myself up, I ran to the shrine, ignoring my body's pleads to stop.

Getting there I saw that a horde of demons were banging against it. Shooting scared arrows at them at once, they disintegrated but as they did, more appeared.

Tensing, my head ached and pulled on my mind, a familiar feeling that my body was telling me it was going to collapse.

I've used too much - suddenly, a few demons screamed out in pain as a swift gust of wind killed them off turning them to dust.

Looking up ... I saw Sesshomaru.

Why is he ... helping?

Ignoring his presence I once again put an arrow on my bow shooting towards the rest of the remaining horde of demons.

As my arrow got close, I watched as it separated into an arrow barrage, killing the rest of them off.

I shouldn't have done that ...

As my legs gave out under me, I found myself falling back onto the ground, the now gloomy sky beginning to become a blur.

Then, something stepped towards me, their footsteps making a patter. Now close to me, a blurry green figure appeared.

... Tatsumori?
