07:04, 15 November 2024As the sun rose over the city, you woke up, stretching your body out lazily. The previous days' events flashed in your mind and you couldn't hold back a smile. You turned to look at Jenna, who was curled up next to you in bed, still fast asleep.
You felt your heart flutter a little as you looked at her sleeping form. The sunlight streaming through the window illuminated her face softly, casting a warm glow over her. You reached over, gently brushing a strand of hair out of her Jenna's face, your touch was tender and loving.
Jenna stirred at your touch, her eyes fluttering open. She looked up at you, a sleepy smile on her face.
Jenna: "Morning"
Her voice was slightly raspy with sleep, adding to the adorable sight of her in the sunlight.
Y/n: "Morning, sleepy beauty"
You chuckled, your heart filled with affection. You leaned over, pressing a soft kiss onto Jenna's forehead. Jenna let out a content sigh, enjoying the feeling of your kiss on her forehead. She lazily sat up in bed, stretching out her limbs.
Jenna: "I could get used to waking up like this every day"
You smiled, sitting up too and pulling Jenna into a soft embrace.
Y/n: "Me too, and guess what? you will"
You nuzzled your face into Jenna's neck, leaving a trail of tiny kisses along her skin. Jenna let out a small laugh, her body responding to your kisses with a slight shiver. She snuggled closer to you, enjoying every bit of the early morning affection.
Jenna: "I can't wait, but first we got phone calls to make"
You pulled back, your smile giving way to a hint of worry at the reminder.
Y/n: "Right, the phone calls"
You grimaced slightly, already dreading the possible reactions you both might receive.
Jenna: "We might as well get it over with"
Jenna tried to sound confident, but you could detect the hint of worry in her voice as well. You nodded, your hand reaching out to take Jenna's.
Y/n: "You're right, let's do this shit"
With that, the both of you climbed out of bed, the atmosphere in the room changin from a cozy, romantic one to one of nervous tension. You grabbed your phone off the nightstand and sat down on the edge of the bed, taking a deep breath to steady yourself.
Jenna followed, sitting down next to you. She leaned her head against your shoulder, seeking comfort and support from you. You gave her a reassuring pat on the knee before scrolling through your contacts.
You found your mom's number and hit the call button. The dialing tone seemed to echo in the room, the sound adding to the tension that was building in your chest. You could feel your heart racing, your palms becoming slightly sweaty. Jenna squeezed your knee gently, trying to reassure you.
After what felt like an eternity, the dial tone stopped, and your mom's voice came on the other end.
Mother 🐻
Hello? Y/n?
You swallowed, your voice slightly shaky as you replied.
Hi mom, I uh have some news for you and dad
You could hear your mom's curiosity peek up. You could almost picture your mom sitting up a little straighter in her armchair.
Good news? or bad news? and why do you sound so nervous, sweetie? Is everything okay?
Your heart skipped a beat. How did your mom always manage to pick up on your emotions like that, even from a phone call?
Everything's okay mom, it's actually good news, well I hope you'll see it as good news
Good news, huh? Well you know your father and I are the happiest for any type of good news, so tell us sweetheart, what it is
You took a deep breath, then looked at Jenna with a small smile. Jenna smiled back, a gesture that made your heart flutter. With the support of Jenna, you found the courage to speak again.
Mom and dad, I'm engaged, I'm getting married
There was silence on the other end. Your heart pounded in your chest, waiting for your parents' reaction. Was it shock? Anger? Joy? You couldn't tell. You felt Jenna's hand squeeze your knee again, giving you a silent encouragement.
Finally, your mom spoke, but instead of the usual warm tone, her voice was softer, almost surprised.
My god, you're engaged...Oh my goodness Y/n, that's incredible news, congratulations sweetheart
Your heart skipped a beat, relief washing over you at your mother's reaction. You had been so worried about their response, but your mom's surprise and congratulations were not what you had expected. You opened your mouth to say something but was cut off by your dad's voice coming on the line.
My daughter engaged wow, I still remember when you were just a little kid, running around the house, playing with your toys and...and now you're going to get married, it feels like time has passed by so fast but congratulations kiddo, I'm very happy for you
Thank you, dad
After a while the call with your parents was over and it was now Jenna's turn. Jenna took a deep breath, her anxiety starting to creep in as she scrolled through her contacts, finding her mom's number. She hesitated for a moment, then pressed the call button. She could hear the dial tone again, and her hand instinctively reached for yours. You clutched it, offering silent support as Jenna waited for her mother to pick up the phone.
After a few moments, her mom's voice came through the line.
Mom
Jenna, hi darling, is everything okay?
Jenna immediately picked up on the hint of worry in her mom's voice. She felt a twinge of guilt, already guessing that her news might not be as well received by her parents as yours had been.
Hi mom, yeah everything's okay, actually, I have some news, good news sort of
Good news? Sort of?
Jenna could imagine her mom's brows furrowing in confusion. She took a deep breath, preparing herself for the conversation that was about to follow.
Yeah...I'm getting married
There was a pause on the other end. Jenna knew her mom well enough to recognize the silence as shock, surprise, or...disappointed. Maybe all three.
Married?
The word was spoken softly, almost in disbelief. Jenna's heart pounded in her chest as she waited for her mom to respond further. She could feel the tension in your hand, as you hold hers tightly in support.
And who pray tell are you marrying?
The question hung in the air, almost ominously. Jenna swallowed hard, knowing that her mom's reaction to the answer was going to be just as important as the news itself.
She looked at you, silently conveying a mixture of nervousness and determination. You nodded again, giving her a reassuring smile. Jenna took another deep breath, steeling herself for the answer she was about to give.
I'm marrying Y/n
Who is Y/n?
Y/n is my girlfriend and soon to be wife
I see, does she make you happy?
Yes, she makes me really happy mom, we love each other very much
Well in that case, I guess we have a new member in the family, congratulations in the engagement sweetheart
Jenna's heart leaped. She couldn't believe her ears. Her mom didn't sound angry nor disapproving. On the contrary, she sounded almost accepting, Jenna could barely speak, her voice cracking slightly with emotion.
Thank you mom, that means so much to me and Y/n
Of course sweetheart, I want you to be happy, and as long as Y/n treats you well I have no objections
Jenna felt tears pricking at her eyes. The relief and happiness she was feeling were overwhelming. She looked at you who was still watching her with a mixture of happiness and relief.
She treats me so weel mom, and she makes me very happy, I promise you she's the best decision I've ever made
Well then, I can't wait to meet the lucky lady who has won my daughter's heart
Jenna's heart fluttered at her mom's words. She couldn't believe that her mom was being so accepting and supportive of her relationship with you. Her mom had always been a bit old-fashioned and conservative, so this reaction was a pleasant surprise.
You're going to love her mom, she's smart, caring, funny, and not to mention drop-dead gorgeous
I don't doubt that one bit, but I'm not the one you should be worried about, it's your father
Right dad, how do you think he's going to react mom?
Knowing him, I think he will be fine with it, after all he cares about is your happiness not who gives it to you
I sure hope so, I want him to like Y/n, and approve of our relationship
You know he will, you're his little girl after all, he just wants what's best for you
Jenna could hear the reassurance in her mom's voice, and it helped to ease some of her anxieties, but she still couldn't wait to speak to her father herself and hear his thoughts directly. ....... It was well into the afternoon now; you and Jenna had spent the rest of morning relaxing and enjoying some couple time. The calls to your parents had lifted a huge weight off your shoulders and you were both feeling more at ease now, cuddled together on the couch and watching tv.
You were idly stroking Jenna's hair, while Jenna had her head on your lap, feeling relaxed and content. Suddenly, your phone rang, breaking the peaceful silence. You glanced at the caller id and a surprised smile spread across your face.
You looked down at Jenna, who was curious about the call, you spoke quietly, so as not to disturb the tranquility too much.
Y/n: "It's Sam, I wonder why she's calling"
Jenna: "Answer it and see what she wants, it might be important"
You nodded and clicked the accept button, and then putting the phone on speaker so Jenna could hear the conversation too.
Sam
Hey Sam, what's up?
Don't "hey what's up" me
You chuckled at Sam's tone. You knew she was only pretending to be annoyed or at least you hoped so.
Jeez, okay Sam, sorry for the casual greeting, but you're calling me for a reason, right?
Yes
And that reason is?
When were you going to tell me you're getting married
You were caught off guard by Sam's question and for a moment you were speechless, but you quickly recovered, a sheepish smile on your face. You glanced down at Jenna who was listening intently to the conversation.
How did you know?
How do you think I know?
Okay okay, who told you?
Your mom
You facepalmed, groaning lightly. You should have known your mom wouldn't be able to keep it a secret for long.
Of course she did, typical
So back to my question, why didn't you tell me?
I'm sorry Sam, it's just that everything happened so suddenly, we were going to tell you, we just wanted to tell our parents first
Okay fair, I accept your apology
You're not going to give me a hard time about it?
Not at all, I get it family before friends
Thanks Sam, appreciate that
Of course
You chuckled again slightly, you knew there was something else Sam's mind, you could hear it in her tone.
Okay, I know there's something else you want to say, so out with it
Yeah, I do... It's about Alex and I
What about you and Alex?
We've decided to move in together and start a family of our own
Wow Sam, that's big news congratulations
Thanks, though it's not as big of a news as you being engaged
Yeah, I suppose you're right, but that doesn't make it any less significant, Alex must be ecstatic
He is, he has been fixing his house up for when I move in
That's great, sounds like he really wants you to be comfortable and feel at home there
Yeah, now the thing is that I'm moving out of your place at the end of the month so this is me giving you a heads up
Oh okay, end of the month, gotcha thanks for letting me know
You couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. Sam had been your roommate for years, the thought of her moving out and starting a new chapter in her life with Alex was little bittersweet.
Jenna sensing your slight sadness, reached up to squeeze your knee comfortingly. You smiled at her, feeling grateful for her support. You looked back at the phone, listening to Sam speak again.
Yeah no problem, but hey I hope you know that just because I'm moving out doesn't mean that I'm not going to see you anymore
Of course not Sam, you're my best friend, you're not getting rid of me that easily
Good
So, you said you want to start a family, so does that mean you and Alex are trying for a baby?
There was a moment of silence and you wondered if you had stepped over a line, then Sam responded.
Well, actually we are planning to adopt since I'm infertile
Oh Sam, I'm sorry to hear that, but it's wonderful that you're considering adoption, you'd make an amazing mom
Thanks Y/n/n, I already hope so... hey, would it be weird to ask you for a favor?
What favor?
I know this is a pretty big ask and I totally understand if you say no, but I was wondering if you and Jenna would like to be the godparents of our future children?
Are you serious? You want me and Jenna to be godparents?
I am serious, but like I said you don't have to agree to it, I know it's a lot to ask
You glanced down at Jenna who looked just as stunned as you were, but then a smile spread across her face, and you knew that she was already sold on the idea.
Are you kidding? Of course we'll be the godparents, we'd be honored
Really? you will? thank you so much Y/n, you and Jenna have no idea how much that means to Alex and I
No, thank you for thinking of us, it's a huge responsibility but one that we'd love to take on, we're going to spoil your kids rotten, I hope you're prepared for that
Oh believe me, I'm more than prepared for that, I know you, you spoil me enough already
What can I say, I enjoy lavishing my favorite people with gifts and affection
Yeah I know, I just hope that once you and Jenna decide to have kids, you won't spoil them as much because your kids are gonna be little spoiled brats
Both Jenna and you looked at each other with a grin knowing damn well, you haven't told anyone aside from Emma that you were both expecting a child already. You had to bit your tongue to prevent yourself from blunting out the news to Sam. Jenna sensing your restraint covered her own mouth to keep herself from giggling audibly.
I'd say the phone calls with the parents was a success as for the phone call with Sam it was something considering the mix of emotions and topics shared.
