very awkwardly attempting to pretend like nothing happened, hayeon fixed her hair and sunghoon cleared his throat as jiwon and sohee walked into the apartment.

"sunghoon?" jiwon said in suprise, not expecting anyone but hayeon to be home.

"yeah, sorry about the door," sunghoon scratched the back of his neck nervously, "that might have been me."

"it's ok!" sohee reassured him, just glad the open door didn't mean they had just gotten robbed, or worse.

"how was your trip?" jiwon asked, her and sohee joining hayeon and sunghoon and taking seats in the living room.

"it was good!" he started to say, pausing when he saw his phone light up.

"oh shit it's already 10? i'm so sorry i have to go, we have an early morning schedule tomorrow," sunghoon explained while clearly in a rush, grabbing his bags and quickly waving goodbye.

the second the door slammed shut hayeon let out the biggest scream in the world into a couch cushion, unable to process anything that had just happened.

four days. it had been four days since hayeon had last spoken to sunghoon. there had been a few texts between them in the group chats they were in together, but ever since the almost kiss, or whatever the fuck had happened the last time she saw him, both of them had clearly been avoiding each other.

after sunghoon had left her apartment that night, hayeon didn't even tell jiwon and sohee what they interrupted. she just locked herself in her room and stared at the ceiling until sleep finally overtook her.

if she was being honest, she wasn't entirely sure what had even happened. it was like she blacked out, her brain felt fuzzy every time she thought about it.

the way he had left in such a hurry didn't help her anxiety too. did he even realize what had occurred? or what almost did? was she making this up? was she losing her mind?

her plans of avoiding confrontation would unfortunately have to come to an end that night however, as all of her friends, including him, were coming over to her apartment to celebrate jiwon's birthday.

hayeon and sohee had spent all day decorating the place while jiwon was at work, wanting to surprise her with the celebration. while she already knew something was happening, all jiwon was expecting was to eat some cake and take a few shots with sohee and hayeon. instead, the other two girls had decided to make the night bigger, knowing jiwon loved being around as many people as possible.

with just 30 minutes left before the boys would arrive, hayeon rushed to change her clothes and make herself look slightly more presentable. sohee had left to pick up jiwon's cake from hayeon's work, leaving the girl alone with her own thoughts full of panic.

she hated this. hayeon absolutely hated feeling this way over someone. she didn't like to play games or beat around the bush when it came to dating, but for some reason she could never think clearly when it came to sunghoon.

it wasn't that he was famous, or ridiculously attractive, although both of those things were true. it was something else she couldn't put her finger on. with any of her other exes she had always been confident and straightforward with her feelings towards them, why was this boy the exception to that?

chucking her hairbrush on her bed out of frustration, hayeon ran her fingers through her hair and let out a deep sigh. ten minutes, she had ten more minutes until she would have to face him.

laughing to herself almost in disbelief, she realized how dramatic she was being. was it even this serious? maybe he had just been busy and that was why they hadn't talked. maybe she was making a big deal out of nothing. maybe she had made the whole thing up in her head.

hearing the click of the front door's lock, hayeon moved into the kitchen to help sohee carry in the cake they had ordered. the two girls then finished putting out plates, picked up a few random items that were laying around the floor of their apartment, and waited for the rest of their friends to arrive.

hayeon woke up with a throbbing headache, something she had been experiencing quite often recently. she was a college student and she had always liked to drink, but last night she hadn't been drinking for fun. she had been drinking to forget.

when sunghoon showed up to her apartment, she immediately knew she wasn't making things up in her head, he was definitely avoiding her. every time she would move in his direction it seemed like he would come up with some excuse to go somewhere else.

not having it in her to deal with confronting him, hayeon turned instead to the many bottles of soju in her fridge, downing multiple shots with jiwon and jake as the night went on.

she thought about asking jake if sunghoon had said anything to him, but she realized doing that would mean her admitting that something had happened. and she was too stubborn for that.

so instead, she danced with her friends, ate way too much cake, and tried her best to ignore the pair of eyes she could feel on her the entire night.

hayeon wasn't even sure why she was ignoring sunghoon. he hadn't done anything to her, it was just awkward between the two. but a drunk hayeon meant a hayeon that gave no thought to logic, so she carried on with her avoidance.

if he wasn't going to say anything to her then she would give the same energy back.
