jake lunged across hayeon's couch, trying and failing to reach for her phone.

"hayeon please!" he begged, his puppy dog eyes on full display.

"i won the rock paper scissors game fair and square i get to pick what we're eating!" hayeon shot back, clutching onto her phone for dear life.

finally shoving the boy off of her, she successfully ordered them fried chicken despite jake's desperate pleas for them to get galbitang instead.

she had to laugh at how seriously he took his food. why had he even suggested they play a game to decide what they would eat in the first place if he wasn't sure he was going to win?

"okay, so now are you going to tell me why you didn't want sunghoon to come over?" jake asked as the two waited for their food to be delivered.

sighing, hayeon mentally prepared herself for how stupid and petty she knew she was about to sound.

"well you know how he went here right after you guys got back from japan? when he came over we kind of almost kissed and then-"

"what do you mean almost kissed!?" jake exclaimed, cutting hayeon off.

part of her was surprised that sunghoon hadn't said anything about that night to jake, but to be fair she hadn't told jiwon or sohee a single thing either.

"can you let me fucking finish the story."

"fine."

"so as i was saying. i don't know what the fuck even happened but i'm ninety percent sure that if jiwon and sohee hadn't walked in we would've kissed. especially because as soon as they interrupted us he rushed out of here faster than i've ever seen him move. and then after that we barely even talked, it was so awkward. when you guys all came over for jiwon's birthday i thought things might go back to normal then, but he avoided me that whole night."

"so that's why you took so many shots with me," jake interrupted once again, earning a light slap on the arm from hayeon.

"i swear to god jake."

"okay continue."

"i just don't know how to act around him anymore," hayeon explained. "i was convinced he didn't even see me like that, and i still kind of am. i mean what if i'm losing it and making this out to be something it's not? i don't know, i'm kind of all over the place. but i decided that if he's going to avoid me then i'm going to avoid him too, so that's why i didn't want him here."

"damn..." jake trailed off, not quite sure what to say.

he couldn't believe that sunghoon had almost kissed the girl he was never able to shut up about and he hadn't even mentioned it once. while he knew he couldn't tell hayeon how sunghoon felt, all jake wanted to do in that moment was shake her by the shoulders and scream that they both had feelings for each other. how could she not see that even after they had almost kissed?

but the more he thought about it, he understood why she was doubting herself. hayeon had a huge tendency to overthink things, and that mixed with the fact that she had barely even spoken to sunghoon for the past week meant her mind would only go to dark places.

"yeah, damn," hayeon repeated jake's words, biting her lip nervously. "he really didn't tell you about any of this? maybe i really am losing it."

"no," jake responded, "but that doesn't mean anything. sometimes when something is so important to him he feels like he has to keep it to himself."

"or i'm going insane."

"trust me you're not," jake scoffed, earning a very weird look from hayeon at his comment.

before she could push jake to explain what he meant by that reply, hayeon's doorbell rang.

"chicken!" jake rejoiced, shooting out of his seat and rushing towards the door.

letting out a small laugh, hayeon watched as her friend excitedly retrieved the same food he was so adamantly against only minutes earlier.

author's note:this is very much a short filler chapter and i feel like it's so terribly written too i'm sorry... stuck between not wanting to publish half assed writing and wanting to update this story more frequently. but anyways jake and hayeon together is my fav thing and the concert is finally next chapter too!
