Chapter 15
22:22, 15 November 20218 months from now
A loud horn woke Savitar up from his nap. He rolled out of bed and checked the alarm clock, it was 7:37 pm, nearly two hours since Caitlin had stormed out.
He sighed and called her again for the eighth time. It went straight to voicemail like it had the other seven times. This time, instead of ending the call, he spoke up.
"Cait," he sighed and ran a hand through his hair, "I'm so sorry, I-I shouldn't have said what I said. Please, just come home. I need you to come home, please," he gulped, unable to find the right words, "I need you with me."
He called Frost next, "this better be an emergency," she hissed from the other side of the line.
"Have you seen Caitlin?" He asked, getting right to the point.
"What?" Frost said, more calmly, knowing that it wasn't a joking matter, "where is she?"
"We got into a fight and she just stormed out. I thought she was with you."
"Savitar, I hope you're joking."
"I'm not."
She sighed, "she's not with me, should I call her?"
"She's not answering any of my calls, so yes. Please?"
"Okay, I'll call you when I get answers ... and Savitar?"
"Hm?"
"Don't worry, she'll come home, I'll make sure of it."
"Yeah, okay," he said, monotonously.
He flopped on the couch and sighed, angry at how he let it go so far. He got up, paced back and forth, then sat back down, only to get up again.
Finally, getting tired of sitting around, he ran out the house and sped away. He didn't know where he was going and he didn't really care.
After what felt like hours, he got a call from Frost.
"Hello?" He said out of breath.
"I called Caity five times ... no answer."
Savitar felt his heart drop and he let out a weary breath. Though he wanted to think it was nothing, that she was just mad and wanted to be alone, he knew deep down something was terribly wrong.
********
Two hours ago, at the West-Allen apartment, Barry and Nora walked in together laughing.
Iris looked up from her laptop at the sudden commotion and smiled when she saw her husband smiling similarly to when he was ten years old.
"Looks like you two had fun," she shut her laptop down and walked toward them.
"We just got some ice cream from the Mason Family Ice Cream Shop."
"Ah man, could've got me some if it hadn't mel-" Iris stopped mid-sentence when she saw Barry smiling, "what?"
"Iris, I think you forgot that you married a speedster," Nora smiled.
Barry took his hand out from behind him and showed his wife an ice cream cone.
Iris laughed in shock, "I didn't think-thanks Barry," she kissed him softly. Little did Barry know, ice cream was just the pick-me-up she needed.
"Well, you two enjoy yourselves, I'll get going."
"What? I thought you were going to stay for dinner," Barry asked, disappointed.
Months after getting to know Nora, he truly felt like she was his second-mother, just like in much ways Joe was his second-father.
Barry was grateful for the fact that though he might've not had quality time with his biological parents, he had ample amount of people who cared.
However, along the way, he grew quite protective of Nora, afraid she might leave him like his mother did.
"I'll come back, don't worry."
"Where are you headed?"
Nora smiled, "I'm just going to go out with Frost. No big deal."
Barry nodded, "oh, um,-"
"Barry, let her go," Iris encouraged him.
Barry shook his head, "sorry, you're right. I hope you have fun with Frost," he embraced Nora in a tight hug.
"Don't apologize for caring, hun." Nora waved at Iris before she left.
As Iris sat back down to work on her laptop, Barry rummaged through the kitchen for food.
"Are you still hungry?" Iris asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, the ice cream isn't going to cut it."
"We have some leftovers in the fridge, if you want."
"I'll take a look," Barry took a plate and put it in the microwave to heat up. To pass the time, he sat next to Iris, "so, what're you working on?"
"Just this new case."
"And it's not going as well as you expected it to?"
Iris glanced over at Barry with a smile, "and what makes you say that?"
"I can just tell."
Iris put her arms around her husband's neck, "damn, you know me too well."
"That's what happens when you fall in love with a girl you've known since you were eleven."
Iris smiled, grateful for having someone like Barry always there for her.
"So, what type of case?"
"A missing person."
"You know ... if you give me a picture, I can just scan Central City in a blink of an eye."
Iris tilted her head, "Barry, I love you, but you know how I am about the reporting stuff."
"I know, I know. I just thought I'd help."
"Thanks for the thought, babe," she kissed him softly before the microwave beeped indicating that the food was ready.
As Barry went to check on his mid-day snack, Iris' eyes widened at her screen.
"Oh my God," she whispered.
"What happened?"
"I found him! I actually found him!" She ran toward him and he lifted her up in joy.
"Found who?"
"No one important," Iris said quickly, "Barry, do you think we can cancel on dinner tonight, this is really important and I-"
"Iris, there's no need to explain yourself, I already know. Go, we'll have a lifetime of dinners to makeup for."
"We all know who the Best Husband Award goes to," she smiled and kissed him appreciatively. Iris quickly grabbed her jacket and texted a friend to pick her up.
************
"Let me call Barry," Savitar suggested, his heart beat racing.
Barry picked up at the second ring and Savitar explained the situation to him.
"And you say she left two hours ago?"
"Yeah, why, do you know something?"
"Well, Iris left two hours ago for a case, she said she was going with a friend, maybe that friend was-"
"Caitlin." Before Savitar could say anything more, Barry sped over to where Savitar and Frost were.
"Let's go find them."
Savitar carried Frost and the three ran over to a lab none of them recognized.
"This is where Cisco traced Iris' phone," Frost said, softer than she had ever spoken before.
"Where can they-" Barry stopped as they walked toward an empty space where a pool of blood laid.
They all looked at each other, not daring to say a word. They walked along the trail only to find Caitlin and Iris on the floor, not breathing.
"Cait," Savitar rushed over and fell to her side. He looked up at Barry who stood still, eyes watery. "We have to get them to Star Labs."
No one moved.
"Now!" Savitar demanded and Frost jumped. They ran over to the Lab where Cisco readied two beds.
For an hour, Barry and Savitar paced back and forth in the cortex while Cisco, Frost, and Harry were in the medical bay, trying their best to save Caitlin and Iris' lives.
Finally, Harry walked out of the door with his head down. Savitar and Barry looked at him, hope in their eyes.
"We ... we couldn't save them, but Savitar, the child, she's well, alive."—————————————————————————
Oop 🙊So now we know why future Frost and Nora came back, kind of.
QOTC: Favourite The Flash parent? My answer: HARRY WELLS. He was just the most realistic one. Though I know if Caitlin were to have a child, she'd be the best mom along with Barry lol.
