He's gone

03:41, 12 July 2025

Another 2 years had gone by. Cassie was doing her usual staying at home mother chores, doing the dishes, folding the laundry, and mopping the floor when she had gotten a call. It was a very serious call. Eric was just working until he was off and ready to come home. He had a pretty rough day at work and was very tired. Eric just wanted to sleep already, but he was driving, almost falling asleep every minute. Cassie picked up the phone within seconds, and the call was from the hospital.

They said that Eric had gotten into a very bad accident and passed away. That just broke Cassie into pieces. Many years of being together, from Cassie and Eric meeting in KINDERGARTEN, ripped apart from Cassie. She was alone now. She became a widow.

She broke the news to Peregrine first. She broke down into tears and hugged her mother tightly. She couldn't handle her dad being dead. It was too much for 8 year old Peregrine to handle. They both just stood in each other's arms, sobbing. Cassie had lost her dear beloved husband, and Peregrine had lost her dear beloved father. Kingsley wasn't aware of this news yet. Cassie and Peregrine were together in the living room, but where in the world was Kingsley?

Kingsley was in his room, playing with some toy cars his uncle had given him for his birthday. He was having a great time until he heard the loud sobs of his mother and sister. He walked down the hallway to the living room. He stopped in his tracks when he saw Peregrine and the mother, sobbing into each other's arms. Cassie turned to him and instantly got furious.

She let go of Peregrine and walked over to Kingsley. Her tall body infront of his short body. "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT, HOW COULD YOU BE SO CARELESS!" Cassie screamed at the top of her lungs while she was still sobbing loudly. "W-What's my fault, mother?" Little Kingsley said quietly. "DO NOT CALL ME MOTHER! YOUR FATHER IS DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU!" The mother said loudly. Kingsley started tearing up as a loud slap had touched his face. The only sound he heard was his ears ringing.

Peregrine stood in the middle of the living room. She just watched, and did nothing about it. Was this normal? No. It definitely was not normal. Not at all. Kingsley just saw Peregrine and wondered why she wasn't protecting him. That's what she promised herself. But now She's doing nothing to protect her little brother from her abusive mother. Her father was abusive too, but that didn't matter anymore.

Kingsley ran back to his room. He locked the door, and sobbed. He sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. He couldn't wrap his head around the thought that his father was dead, his mother slapped him across the face, and his older sister didn't protect him. He knew his parents didn't care about him, but what about Peregrine? Though Kingsley was only 6, He just knew. He just knew that the beautiful relationship he had with his sister, all the love, care, support, fun, and happiness that Peregrine gave him had faded. It was all gone.
