20:59, 12 October 2018A few normal days went by. Klaus wanted to lay low. That was of course until he went to find his brother and finally end the link.
"We have a guest. I hope you'll keep her protected and out of anything she's not allowed to be in." Klaus instructed as I fixed my hair.
"Aye aye." I spoke looking to him. "And if something goes wrong?" I asked curiously. This woman that showed up was apparently Finn's girlfriend. He was in a box for nine centuries which meant this woman was hella strong.
"Call me and fight her off." He replied simply.
"I'll be dead if I fight her." I replied tightening my ponytail.
"Then let's hope she stays in check." He smirked mischievously as I rolled my eyes. "Come on I'll introduce you." I followed him down the stairs to a red head that sat on the couch shaking her foot impatiently.
"Emma, Sage. Sage, Emma." Klaus spoke. "Now I'll be back later, hopefully my brother is with me."
"As if you won't force him to come." Sage spoke and I let out a soft chuckle. Klaus sent me a glare before leaving.
"Wow he gave us a great introduction." I turned to the red head.
"Yeah, amazing." She replied. "So what? Are you my babysitter."
"Well he says so, but I plan on keeping things chill." I replied sitting down.
She looked me up and down. "What's your story?" She questioned as I shook my head lightly and a smile formed.
"Short version I made a deal with Klaus to keep the people I love safe and now I'm here." I replied with a nod.
"And did he live up to this deal?" She asked curiously.
"For the most part." I replied with a sigh. "But the people I did it for-" I shook my head. "They betrayed me."
"Ouch." She looked at me and I looked up with an eyebrow furrowed. "You look relatively new."
"New had a look?" I questioned.
"Well you aren't trying to start problems with me, not to mention the pain is recent." She replied. She was observant for sure.
"I turned right before summer." I replied as she nodded.
"And?" She asked.
"It was bad at first. I'm getting used to it." I explained.
"You hate it?" She asked curiously.
"It's hard to explain." I replied and it was. I hated some of it and other parts I knew I should've hated, but I liked them.
She let out a soft hum. "I get it." She nodded. "The older you get, the better it gets."
"I hope so." I smiled lightly. We sat around for a while. She told me the stories of her and Finn. They were sweet. They had to see each other in secret and hide how they felt. I honestly didn't want to listen though. It just made me jealous and angry.
Not long after the front door opened and Sage's face lit up. She got up and went straight to the stairs. I followed after and when I got to the top she was wrapped around the oldest Mikaelson. They walked out and I looked to Rebekah and Klaus.
"I assume everything went well?" He asked looking up to me.
"Yeah." I replied simply the jealousy still present in my attitude. "Anything else?" I asked leaning against the rail.
"Not for today, love." He replied as he looked at me. I nodded lightly with a sigh as I walked to my room.
I went to my bed and laid there bored. I heard a knock on my door not after too long and I turned to it. I saw Klaus walk in. "Changed your mind?" I asked curiously looking back up to the ceiling.
"No, you seemed agitated and I wanted to know why." He replied walking over to my desk.
"Since when do you care?" I questioned remembering what Kol said to me the other night.
"It might surprise you to know that I actually don't want you to be completely miserable all the time." He spoke sitting next to me as I laid down. I turned to look at him as he flipped through my sketchbook.
"I'll be not miserable if you let me out." I replied looking to him.
"These are good." He spoke as I sat up and looked at the book.
"Yeah well I have a lot of time to work on them." I spoke positioning myself criss cross.
"Surrealism." He simply said and a small smile appeared on his face. "It's definitely your strong suite." I turned a bit. This smile was different. It was really genuine.
"You think?" I asked looking at the drawings.
"I do." He replied. "I've always liked this about you." He admitted as I furrowed my brows looking at him. "It makes you unique." He spoke as he continued flipping.
"What's going on?" I asked confused. "Did something happen?"
He sighed lightly. "Today Bekah and I are doing some, well, things you would consider questionable."
"What type of things?" I questioned.
"Rebekah plans on torture I plan on threats." He replied as I sighed lightly.
"Who?" I asked unsure.
"No one you care about." He replied as I nodded lightly. "Wait here." He said as he vamped out and vamped back in.
He had a purple box with a white bow wrapped on top. "I thought you might like this." He said as he handed it to me.
I opened it confused. I loved the tissue wrap and saw a new sketchbook. I smiled lightly. "I came in here earlier and noticed you'd finished up your first one." He explained.
"You snoop?" I questioned.
"I'm not exactly quiet. You're just a very heavy sleeper." He smirked lightly. I shook my head disapprovingly. "There's still more." He pointed at the box. I moved the sketchbook to see a graphite pencil set. "They're the best brand I could find. They work best with this type of paper as well." He explained as I looked at them.
I looked up to him and he was looking at me almost wanting approval. "Why the sudden change of heart? And why only when it's only us around?" I asked curiously.
"Well if I'm going to be honest there hasn't been someone who could set me straight in a while. You put me in my place and as annoying as it is I've realized how important it is." He explained as I tilted my head lightly. I realized he needed me to keep himself in check which was something I was surprised about.
"Thank you for the book." I thanked as I held my new sketchbook.
"You can head out of town today. Not in town." He spoke. "Go draw something realistic for once. Maybe something that isn't so weird to look at."
"Didn't you just say you liked it?" I asked crossing my arms.
"You know what I meant." He replied as he stood up. "Now go. If I see you trying to see anyone-"
"Yeah yeah." I replied. "You're so bipolar." I sighed. "Being all nice then keeping me from them." I shook my head standing up. "I'll be back by midnight." I spoke. "I'll need a car."
He sighed and looked at me. We went to the garage and he gave me a key to a BMW. I drove it to the beach. I was in Maryland. It was about an hour drive to get there. Just in time to draw the sun over the waves.
I spent some time conversing with the people, and by conversing I mean drinking them. Not long after drawing a few other scenic areas I found myself back at the mansion. I got inside and it was too quiet.
I looked around and eventually found Klaus in his room. I looked at him as he walked across but walked away.
"Your back." He spoke as I turned to see him walking out.
"Yeah." I nodded.
"Well let me see." He demanded as if it was obvious. He put out his hand and I gave him the book that was in my bag. He opened it and raised his eyebrows.
He observed it quietly as I crossed my arms waiting for him to finish. He gave it back and nodded. "You have a gift." He complimented. I smiled lightly as I went to walk away. "Listen we are leaving Mystic Falls soon. I want to go make more hybrids." He explained as I nodded.
"I thought you ran out of blood?" I asked confused.
"We'll take Elena too. I thought you might like having her company." He explained as I furrowed my eyebrows. "I mean eventually when you forgive her."
"Why cant you just take a few pints like last time?" I asked my arms still crossed.
"I don't plan on having a small pack, love." He replied as I looked at him.
"I don't like that idea. She shouldn't be involved. I insured her safety when I signed myself over." I explained looking at him.
"And she'll be safe under my protection." He answered.
"Klaus that isn't fair." I replied looking at him disapprovingly.
"No, love, this is a loophole." He answered with a shrug.
"I'm tired, and going to bed. Please at least think about my idea." I spoke looking at him. "We'll talk about it more in the morning." I turned on my heel and began walking.
"Emma, don't forget I'm the one in charge here. Whatever I say goes." He reminded me as I stood still for a moment. I turned my head only halfway to him.
"I thought you said you appreciated me and you obviously take my opinion. Why is this topic any different?" I asked as I turned fully.
"She is something I don't want to debate." He replied trying not to get angry.
I sighed lightly and headed to bed. I didn't want to deal with him at all right now.
The next morning came around and I got ready to argue with Klaus. I had thought of everything I wanted to say to him. I was thinking while walking to the fridge. I grabbed a bag and began drinking it. I noticed the girl standing in the corner. Klaus kept her around for food. I really wanted warm, but I also really didn't want to kill someone else.
I was surprised the killing hadn't gotten to me. My morality was fading more and more everyday.
"Good morning." Rebekah spoke as she came in to grab a bag. She had a bit of pep in her step for some reason.
"And why are you so happy?" I asked curiously.
"Well after my sweet night of torture I thought I wouldn't stop there. I plan on taking over the decade dance, and switching it to the 20's." She explained as I thought for a moment.
The decade dance. The year was going by so fast. "Isn't Caroline in charge?" I asked looking at her.
"And?" She asked raising her eyebrow.
"She puts a lot of effort into the dances Rebekah." I spoke as she humphed lightly.
"Well that's the point, to ruin her plans." Rebekah replied. She smiled lightly before turning around and heading out.
She really was a bitchy person. Of course Klaus said all the siblings in caskets had problems and I didn't want to figure hers out. I walked to Klaus' art room and saw him painting.
"I've come to make my case." I spoke as he took a deep breath and turned to me.
"There is no case to make Emma." He replied as I crossed my arms.
I walked over and sat down on a stool. "Actually I think there is." I replied looking at him. "I think your loopholes are bull shit." I pursed my lips and he turned back around to paint again.
"Do explain." He calmly replied as he painted.
"I said I would trade myself for Damon and Elena. That meant I would work for you and they would be able to be away from you. You're trying to say that she'll be safe under your care, but if you constantly take her blood, how the hell does that make her safe?" I asked as he kept painting.
He took a breath. "Well your argument is compelling," he started. "But no."
"Why?" I asked angrily.
"I'll keep it simple. I've waited one thousand years for this. I deserve it and to be frank, what exactly does Elena deserve?" He asked as he turned back around.
"A life." I replied. "I mean she still is living. She should be able to have that." I explained.
"So you're telling me I should just wait until she's old?" He questioned.
"I mean honestly that's better than taking her before she's even graduated high school." I replied with a small nod.
"And what if something happens before she gets there. A Salvatore gets angry and turns her. She ends up in a freak accident just like her parents. The possibilities are endless." He started as I looked at him with a sigh.
"And what if somehow you end up dying too?" I questioned. His face changed.
"What do you know?" He asked looking at me. "Who have you been talking too?" He walked closer.
"No one I'm just saying." I replied. "Why?" I questioned after a pause.
"My answer is no. Though I do appreciate the effort." He replied as he grabbed his jacket.
"Klaus what's going on that I don't know about?" I asked standing up from the stool.
"Nothing. You just reminded me that I shouldn't wait to get what I want." He replied. "I'll be back later." He nodded before walking out.
I rolled my eyes and breathed angrily pushing my hair back. I looked at his painting before noticing Klaus' phone on the stand. I went over to it. I hadn't seen a phone in a while. Klaus broke mine the first night and he hadn't let me use one since. I wanted to talk to my dad again and warn him about Elena.
I picked it up and swiped. Surprisingly no passcode was needed. I listened to be sure he was gone and then I went up to my room. I called my dad and it rang. It kept ringing and it stopped.
"You have reached an-" A robot answered as I took a breath. Maybe he just was busy. Maybe he didn't want to answer a random number.
I went through his contacts to find someone else. I couldn't casually be in the dark about if he was actually okay. I searched for anyone and the only friendly helpful name I saw was Stefan. Of course that was if he had his humanity. If not I'd have to try hard to convince him.
I pressed it and my heart raced. God this was a bad idea. I closed my eyes and put it up to my ear. It rang twice and then it clicked.
"Klaus, not a great time." Stefan spoke as I breathed.
"It's not Klaus." I replied putting my hand to my mouth.
"Emma. What's going on?" He asked assuming the worst.
"I was wondering the same thing. My dad didn't answer. Is he okay?" I asked worried.
"He's well-" Stefan started as he took a breath. "The ring did something to him. He's changing. He's got this dark ego that is taking over him." He explained.
"Well where is he? Maybe I can talk some sense into him." I asked curiously.
"No, it's not like that Emma. He can't control it." Stefan replied and I could hear the pity in his voice.
"I want to talk to him." I spoke looking at my window as I bit on my thumb nail worried for him.
"Yeah. He's right here." Stefan spoke as I heard him hand the phone over.
"Emma?" My dad now spoke and I could hear the emotion racing through his voice.
"Dad." I breathed relieved. "I'm so-" I started as I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I looked down to see a knife poking through my heart. I feel down and felt myself die for a moment.
