01:16, 28 September 2018The next day I went to Caroline's to help her make chili. She was making it for another founders party-palooza special thing for the town. I would've helped Elena and Damon but he said they were finally bonding and what better way then forcing them together.
"It could use more spice." I swallowed some of the warm chili.
"No. We stick to the recipe." She replied as she re read the paper. "My family's chili almost always wins."
I nodded lightly. "I'm not even the slightest bit surprised. What do you think would happen if we just snuck a little blood into it. No one would notice right?" I asked looking at the chili color.
"It has a distinguished taste. Besides don't you think that's kind of gross?" She asked looking to me.
"Nope. All I can think about is vamp chili." I sighed lightly. We chuckled lightly then heard the doorbell ring and Caroline was too busy whisking away so I decided to get it. I opened it and saw Bonnie.
"Hey." I smiled to her as she smiled back. She had left all summer to see her dad's side of the family or something. I still wasn't quite sure if I liked her or not yet. "Carolines making chili. She'll be happy to see you." I nodded as she came in and walked towards the kitchen.
"Bonnie!" I heard Caroline say as she put down the spoon. I walked to the kitchen to see them hugging. "I've missed you." Caroline crinkled her noes lightly.
"I've missed you too. I'm sorry I wasn't here for everything." Bonnie said sadly and I realized that Caroline probably told her everything.
"It's fine. I'm glad that you at least had a normal summer." Caroline nodded but you could see the sadness in her eyes.
Not long after the chili was ready and we headed to Elena's. Upon opening the door Elena had the same response to seeing Bonnie. I saw Damon and walked over planting a quick kiss on his lips.
"So how's the chili?" I asked walking over to the kitchen.
"Boring." He replied as I nodded.
"You two are getting along?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"She's finally decided to not comment on everything slightly inappropriate and I've decided to not get angry over all the Stefan drama." He explained.
"Thank you for that." I nodded lightly.
"We are gonna head out and talk to Bill Forbes. Make him forget about everything." He added.
"We?" I asked before my dad walked out. He had started alternating nights again. I didn't mind too much because I was doing the same at the boarding house. He probably didn't know that though. "Promise to be careful, both of you?" I asked looking to them.
"He's a human tied onto a chair without vervain. I've got it." He reassured as I nodded.
"Okay. See you later then." I smiled lightly and walked back over to the girls in the kitchen after giving them their catch up time.
"Since when do you know how to cook?" Caroline asked helping Elena with her chili.
"Damon helped me make it." She nodded lightly.
"Damons helping you cook? Since when?" Bonnie asked confused
"Since I convinced them to be friends." I replied sitting next to her. "It was one hell of a task."
"Even though he's still annoying I'm glad that- ow!" Elena started backing away from the pot.
"Did I splash you?" Caroline asked worried.
"No. No my necklace." Elena replied taking it off. "I-it burned me." She said as a little red mark appeared in her chest.
"Maybe it's a sign you shouldn't be wearing it." Caroline replied.
"Caroline-" Bonnie started.
"What I'm just saying. If you're hanging out with Damon..." She paused and shrugged.
"Care what are you implying?" I asked looking at her. I hope she wasn't saying what I thought she was.
"Nothing. Let's finish this up." She replied with a sigh as she grabbed the pot and started pouring again. It was almost like she was implying that they were getting together. I really hoped she was just kidding, besides Elena wouldn't do that to me.
"Hey let me see it." Bonnie said looking to Elena's necklace. Elena held it out to her and she examined it for a second before grabbing at it. As soon as she did it sent out an electric shock which surprised all of them. Bonnie dropped it on the table and they looked at it.
"What's going on?" I asked looking at the necklace.
"Something magical. I don't know what it is but I know where we can get some clues." Bonnie replied as we all looked to her. "I'll meet you at the party." Bonnie stood up and walked out. She almost seemed sort of excited to get into the magic again.
We finished up Elena's and Caroline's chilis and we headed to the place. Elena and Caroline went over to sit and wait for Bonnie while I went over to my dad.
"How did everything go?" I asked looking at him as he took a sip of his beer.
"Good. Seems like the compulsion worked. He is probably on his way out now." He nodded as I smiled lightly. "So I see you've gotten Elena and Damon on speaking terms."
"Yeah I'm actually proud of myself about that." I crossed my arms looking up to him.
"Just be careful." He said as I furrowed my eyebrows. "She looks like his ex. He might get the idea that-"
"Dad." I stopped him almost- no actually offended. "He wouldn't do that. Why are people saying he would do that?" I asked angrily.
"I'm not. I'm just looking out for you." He shook his head trying to calm me down.
"Well everything is okay, okay?" I asked looking at him as he sighed then nodded slightly.
I ate by a tree listening in on people's conversations for fun. Eavesdropping was a good past time. I saw my dad talking to someone. Apparently some kid at schools mom was furious because he had a C in history. Dad told her that maybe he should stop slacking. I laughed a little at his cocky remark. I could tell he wasn't having the greatest time at the party.
"Eavesdropping? That's poor manners." I heard as I saw Damon next to me.
"Not as poor as that woman's sons grades." I replied as he grabbed a cracker off of my plate. "Hey that's my food." I said reaching for it but he already ate it. I rolled my eyes playfully before looking back at my plate.
I thought about what Caroline and dad had said about him and Elena. I know Elena said she would never but I was still worried.
"What's wrong?" Damon asked quickly noticing my change in behavior.
"Some people think that you are starting to like Elena." I replied looking up to him worried.
"Who?" He asked almost as if he wanted to beat them up.
"It's not important who I just- I'm being paranoid and I-" I began to ramble.
"I wouldn't." He said looking at me as I continued looking at my plate. He grabbed my waist and looked at me closer. "I'd never do that to you. I wouldn't ever try to hurt you." He admitted.
I smiled lightly. "That's what I said." I replied.
"And you're right. The only reason I've been close with Elena is because I don't want to give you another thing to be worried about." He explained.
"I'm proud of you about that you know." I smiled up to him. "You didn't have to learn to deal with her but you did and so did she. I'm glad to have both of you."
"And I'm lucky to have you." He replied.
"Smooth." I chuckled as he leaned in to kiss me.
"I know." He said before planting his lips on mine gently. I looked at him for a second. This was a moment I wanted to remember. I'd never truly loved someone before him. We weren't in the honeymoon phase anymore but it was still so calm. Of course we had differences but he always looked out for me. I couldn't ask for anything more.
"I'm gonna go talk to Ric." He said as he planted a kiss on the top of my head before walking away.
I saw him walk over to my dad and I listened in. They talked about what my dad told me. Dad talked about how he needed to be careful with Elena and Damon fought back saying they were just being friends. He said not to hurt me and other things along those lines. Dad went at it, I assume to try and be the overprotective dad type. I saw sheriff Forbes walk over. I stopped listening and I headed to Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie.
They all looked a little shook up. "What did I miss?" I asked curiously.
"The necklace, it has its own magic." Bonnie replied as I looked at it on her book.
"Is it good or bad?" I asked curiously.
"I don't know yet." She replied as I sighed lightly. The sudden change in the necklace had to mean something and odds usually led to bad things.
"I'm gonna go get something to eat. That's what we are supposed to do here right?" Elena sighed lightly standing up. Bonnie nodded and they headed away.
I looked to Caroline and thought about earlier. "What did you mean earlier about Damon and Elena?" I asked curiously, worried about her answer.
"I don't trust him Line, you know that." She replied as I sighed lightly. "I just want to make sure You and Elena don't get hurt."
"How could we get hurt Care?" I asked confused.
"Emma I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you don't see all of the bad in him. He's a bad person, he's only good in your eyes. One day that might change and I'm afraid of the consequences." She explained as I thought for a second.
"Maybe you are right, but you don't have to go around talking about how he could cheat on me at any moment." I replied angrily. "Just leave it be."
"Emma-" Caroline started but I was already walking away.
I hated the feeling of abandonment. I only realized it when my mom came back but still. My boyfriend leaving me for my sister- I couldn't handle that.
It was pretty dark when I got a text from my dad saying it was time to leave. I walked from the back to the front porch. As I got there I saw Damon in front of my dad. I listened in.
"-your temporary funeral." I heard as I saw Damon crack my dad's neck.
"Dad!" I yelled as I ran over.
"What is wrong with you?" I heard Elena say as Damon gave me a glance as he kept walking.
I went to my dad and held him. "What the hell?" I asked looking at his lifeless body. I was relieved he had on his ring. "Damon!" I yelled looking at him.
"He was in my way." He replied not even bothering to turn around.
I didn't know which was worse, Damon killing my dad or the fact that he was completely unwavered by me standing there as he did it. Caroline was right. He was bad, and I knew that, but I didn't think he'd hurt me. That was the last thing I expected.
"What do we do?" I asked looking up at Elena.
"I'll call Caroline to get Damon." Elena replied as I nodded lightly. She did so quickly as I just shook dad lightly waiting for him to wake up. The soundless nerves in his body worried me so much even though I knew he'd come back.
I heard fighting in the house. "He's hurting someone." I said looking up to Elena as glass braking was clearly audible.
I waited for dad to wake up. I didn't want to be near Damon right now. I waited but it was taking a while.
"Emma." I heard from behind me.
"Just go away." I replied looking at my dad.
"Let me take him to my house." He said gently.
"I said go away!" I warned looking at him. "He should be awake by now." I said looking at him. "How could you?" I asked angrily.
"I told you I needed to do something." He replied not even bothering to raise his voice.
"Oh were you talking to me? Because you didn't even bother to look at me." I replied standing up and looking at him. "Not even three hours ago you told me you would never try to hurt me and then you go and kill my dad. You're a lot of things but I didn't think you were a liar." I looked at him upset.
"I did what I had to." He replied.
"You're not even gonna apologize?" I asked letting a few tears out before whipping them. "Seriously, you need to go away." I warned angrily. With that he was gone. I looked at my dad and picked him up. It was surprisingly easy, but very weird.
I took him home and it took all night for him to wake up. He got up and took deep breaths. "You're okay." I smiled as he sat up in his bed.
"He killed me." He said looking around remembering what happened. He looked to me. "Damon killed me."
"I know. I should've listened to you." I shook my head. "I'm so sorry Dad." I looked down upset.
"No no it's not your fault." He shook his head. "I just- I don't think it's good for you to be with him."
I looked down. If it were any other person, someone who wasn't my family I would've forgiven him, but this, this would be hard. "I know." I replied quietly.
"I'm sorry." He replied as I shook my head.
"It's fine. I just want you to be safe. I'll do what it takes to make sure you stay that way." I nodded lightly.
"Thank you but I have to make sure everyone else is protected too. I can't just sit here and let this happen. I have to make sure the people here are safe, the humans." He said standing up.
"What are you gonna do?" I asked curiously.
"I'm gonna go try and be part of the council." He replied with a small sigh before walking out the front door. I couldn't think of anyone better for the job.
