Episode 4

16:31, 19 October 2024

Taehyung's face is so close to me now and I have no idea what to do. "Taehyung..." I press my hand on his chest and cause him to stop. "This is only pretend remember."

"Yeah." He backs away from me and clears his throat.

I feel guilty pushing him away because he seemed like he really wanted to kiss me, but I don't want him to get the wrong idea. Plus, I may have told him all about me, but I only met him today and I am not kissing him.

"I'm sorry Tae."

"It's fine. I should be the one saying sorry. I think I just forgot this is just pretend." He stands up and dusts himself off.

I stand up and join him, grabbing my bag from the floor. "Hang on," I stop him before he leaves. "It doesn't make sense."

Taehyung turns and looks at me. "What doesn't?"

"Why aren't you scared of me? I held a gun to someone's head and yet you nearly kissed me after finding out. Anyone in their right mind would have ran a mile." I explain. It really didn't make sense. Why wasn't he running from me?

"Maybe I'm just not in my right mind." He shrugs his shoulders.

I shake my head, not believing him. "No." I walk up to him. "You are hiding something and you're not telling me. I told you all that and you won't tell me what you're hiding?"

He looks me in the eyes and looks away. "We need to get to class."

"We have a free period so don't even give me that excuse." I retort. "Tell me. Why aren't you scared of me?"

Taehyung walks back to where we were just sat, drops his bag on the ground and sits back down. I follow his lead and sit down next to him. "I saw someone get shot before. When me and the boys were walking around the streets, this guy was walking around holding a gun to someone's head. We stood like everyone else, but I could see the girl crying. I couldn't just let her suffer."

FLASHBACK OF TAEHYUNG

"Tae? Tae, what are you doing?" Namjoon asks. I don't realise but my body was slowly making its way closer to the gunman. Everyone else is moving further backwards and yet I'm doing the opposite.

"I can't stand here and watch that girl suffer." There's no emotion in my voice.

I feel someone grab me to pull me back, but I shake them off and keep going. People are mumbling to each other about me, but I don't care. This may be the stupidest thing I have ever done but, this girl needs help.

"Don't hurt her. She's done nothing wrong. If you want someone then take me." I state.

Behind me, I can hear the guys shouting at me to shut up and just come back but I lift my hand up to tell them to be quiet. The man pulls away the gun and pushes the woman to the ground. She runs behind me to Jimin where he holds her as she cries. "Now, put the gun down."

The man laughs. "And what if I don't?"

"I'll take it from you."

In my head, I cannot believe what I'm saying. I don't confront men with guns; I'm a school bully. People fear us in school but there's no way a fully grown man is going to be afraid of a 15-year-old boy. Right now, I must have a death wish because the only way I'm getting out of this situation is death.

The man just laughs as I make a stupid attempt to take the gun. He raises the gun above me, out of my reach, and pulls the trigger. Everyone erupts into a wave of screams and gasps.

I feel a sharp pain in my shoulder and as I look, I see blood pouring out. I wince in pain and apply pressure onto the wound.

"Taehyung!" Jungkook shouts.

While the gunman is celebrating and threatening the onlookers, asking if anyone else wants to be shot, I quickly kick the gun out of his hand. Hoseok runs in and grabs the gun while the man is wincing in pain with his hand.

Yoongi and Seokjin also run in with Namjoon and they hold onto the man until the police move in and arrest him.

I felt like a hero. A stupid hero but a hero. I may have been shot but I guess all good guys get hurt when saving the world...

END – JING LI POV

I sit with my mouth slightly agape at the story.

"I was taken to hospital and had about three stitches. I did have the bullet removed without anaesthetic which was excruciating but I thought I deserved it after doing something so stupid." Taehyung finishes.

He unbuttons his shirt and shows me the stitches on his right shoulder. Even though it was only a few months ago, the stitches are still very fresh. He pulls his shirt back up and rebuttons it.

As I go to speak, he beats me to it. "I'm not scared of you because I saved that woman from being killed. I went face to face with a shooter and got shot. All I cared about was that she was okay, even though I wasn't."

"I can't believe it. You don't even look like the type of guy to do that." I point out.

"Yeah, but you don't look like the type of girl to be in gangs and have to be put in juvie for trying to rob a bank." He adds, chuckling a little.

"Touché." I state while a small smile tugs at my lips.

1 WEEK LATER

"There's a new guy walking round. He seems a little suspicious." Taehyung explains.

I sigh and playfully roll my eyes. "He's a new kid. They're probably just nervous. Now, why don't you go back to your seat so I can finish off this essay." I suggest, lifting my head and gesturing towards his seat on the other side of the class next to Jungkook.

Taehyung pokes my shoulder. "You're no fun anymore."

"Huh?" I laugh at him pouting. "Anymore? You never knew me before I was like this and anyway, both of us are supposed to be behaving, remember?"

"Fine. I'll speak to you after class." He walks over to his seat, pouting and I laugh a little at him.

I shake my head and try to focus back on my essay when the teacher walks in.

"Good morning class. We have yet another new student so please pay attention. Come on in young man."

I look up and notice a tall guy with reddish-pink hair. Oh my god.

Without realising, I stand up from my chair and everyone looks over at me, including Taehyung.

"Xingwei?" I ask.

He looks at me and smirks. "Jing Li."
