Chapter 1- Driving with Junior

- Clementine's POV

"Whatcha doing back there, goofball?" I asked, sighing as I heard a constant clicking behind me. Adjusting my rear view mirror, I saw AJ, playing with the gun that I gave him for protection. "Pretending we got bullets." He said back, not even glancing up at me. Raising an eyebrow inquisitively, I looked back to the road, slightly annoyed with the sound. I loved that kid with all of my heart, but sometimes he was almost unbearable. That clicking was really starting to get on my nerves. "Well, stop. It's getting on my nerves." I said more harshly than I would've liked. It didn't take him long to retaliate. He was a sassy 6 year old. "I don't like 'goofball'" He said, sitting up straighter. I raised my eyebrows, looking once again to him through the rear view mirror. It actually made me somewhat disappointed to hear that. I'd called him goofball since he was a newborn baby. Trying not to let him onto my slight hurt, I replied slower. "Aww, but I've always called you goofball..." "Well it's time for you to stop." I heard him say behind me. D*mn... I thought to myself. He sure was grumpy today. Deciding not to bother him more, I didn't fight it. "AJ still work?" I said in a serious tone, waiting for a reply. "AJ still works..." He said, slouching back once more. At least that was something...

Before I knew it, we were approaching a train station. I slowed down, my hair now frizzy from the wind, falling flat against my face. Good thing my hat was there to hold it back. I stopped at the small building, scoping out the area for walkers, as I always did. "We gonna do it?" I heard a small voice say from behind. Even in a serious tone, his voice was still cute. "Think so" I replied to him, holding out a knife for him to grab. AJ stood up in the car, grabbing the knife. I got out and turned as he crawled through the drivers seat. He nodded to me. With that, we made our way to the gates. I looked over to a large bell with a sign overtop of it. "Friendly? Ring the bell" it read. Yeah, no way was I attracting walkers with that sound. "What's that mean?" AJ asked me, slightly unnerved. "It means that the people here shoot first." I replied bluntly, slipping through the gate. AJ hesitated for a moment, but quickly caught up to me. We entered a yard, and AJ left my side to go search for monsters and explore the place. I decided to look around a bit before seeing what he was up to.

I walked up the steps, trying not to alert any live people, if there were any. Grabbing the water canteen out of my backpack, I opened up a can and filled it partly with water. I doubted it was good, but I had to try. Bringing the canteen up to my lips, I hesitated for a moment before taking a sip. Immediately, I was overcome with the urge to throw up, despite my stomach being empty. I leaned over to the side and spat out every last drop, the taste of the liquid still lingering in my mouth. I killed off a nearby walker before heading over to AJ. "Hey, AJ. Find anything interesting?" I asked as he gave a long, pondered look at a tire swing. "Is this a monster trap?" He asked innocently at the sight of it. "No, AJ, it's a swing. You sit in it and someone pushes you really high." I said. It made me slightly sad to see that everything I had known as a child his age was completely foreign to him. "Do you think... Maybe I could try it? After we clear this place?" His eyes shone with curious excitement. "Sure! Just give me a few more minutes and then we'll go inside..." I said, backing away to check out the place some more.

This is my first story, so forgive me if you don't like it. I wanted to see if I should publish this fanfiction, and keep it going. If no one reads, I'll put out a short disclaimer that I will be ending the story. But until then, I will keep updating. Everything is experimental still, so I'll see where this goes. I hope you enjoyed! Also, I just want to say, I am trying to line this story up with the story line, but I will be adding in some extra cute moments/ Clouis romance stuff between Clem and Louis if I get that far on publishing this story. And don't worry, it's coming soon! I just wanted to include this part as a build up. Thanks for reading!
