Chapter Thirteen - Ex-man of the house

12:05, 21 September 2019

Nya arrived home, a little annoyed.

"Skylor, I'm back!" She called out but when she turned around to look at the counter, she saw someone she was expecting to see.

"Where have you been?!" Kai asked.

"I was...um... at a friend's house." She replied.

"You mean boyfriend?" Skylor raised an eyebrow.

Nya fell speechless.

"I told you that you don't have time for that kind of stuff, Nya." Kai told her.

"But you're with Skylor!" Nya argued.

"We're older!" Kai shouted back.

"But Jay is different and he's--" Nya stopped herself.

"That Jay guy?! So he's distracting you from this job, huh? The job that I asked you to do? The job that you promised you would do for me?" Kai continued.

"I know and I'm sorry but Jay is going through a rough time at the moment. His father passed away yesterday and his snobby Aunt Katherine, she's--" Nya explained.

"I don't care what's happening in his life! All I care about is you doing as I had told you. I counted on you Nya!" Kai shouted.

"I'm sorry. I'll focus from now on." Nya told him sympathetically.

"Yes, you will because I forbid you from seeing him." Kai told her.

"What?!" Nya exclaimed, her eyes wide.

"He's distracting you, Nya. He's no good, okay?" Kai sighed.

"But Kai--"

"No buts. Skylor will keep a very close eye on you at school." Kai said.

"Please don't do this Kai." Nya pleaded.

"I had to come back early because of you. Maybe you deserve it." Kai stated angrily.

Nya turned to Skylor. "Why would you do this? I thought you were my best friend."

Skylor broke eye contact.

"She was doing the right thing." Kai replied.

"I HATE YOU BOTH!!" Nya screamed before running upstairs and slamming her bedroom door.

"Here you go, Brady. How do you like your room?" Jay smiled.

"It's okay, I guess. Where is your room? Is it green? Do you have a diary? Is it under your bed? Can I read it?" He rushed.

"No, Brady, I don't have a diary." Jay rolled his eyes.

"Are you sassing me? Do I have to tell mother? MOTHER!!" Brady shouted.

"No! No, I wasn't sassing you, Brady." Jay sighed. "Look, why don't you get settled in? I have to go to school."

"School? What's school? Do people like you there?" He asked.

"I don't know. I'm going." Jay walked out of the room.

I honestly cannot deal with this anymore. It's only been a day and they are already driving me crazy. They're gonna make things worse for me...

"I'll see you around 6, Aunt Katherine." Jay called out by the front day. Katherine wandered up to him in her black heels.

"6? But school finishes at 3." She frowned.

"Yeah, I usually go to Cole's house after school on Mondays." Jay told her.

"Not anymore. I'm in charge now. And you come straight home after school everyday. Do you hear me?" She glared at him.

Jay sighed. "Yes."

At school, Jay headed over to his locker and grabbed his books.

"Hey." A voice spoke from behind him. Jay turned around to see his girlfriend and best friend.

"Hey." Jay replied in a sort of disappointed voice.

"What did Hilda do this time?" Cole raised an eyebrow.

"We can't hang out after school today, Cole." Jay sighed. "Make that any day really."

"What?! Why?" Cole frowned.

"She told me that I have to come straight home after school." Jay explained.

"Man, she's such a party pooper." Nya groaned.

"Tell me about it." Jay rolled his eyes.

"Come over. Ignore her. She ain't your father." Cole ordered.

"Isn't that a weird thing for him to say?" Nya muttered under her breath.

"I would but she is in charge. She promised my father that she'd take care of me. And no matter how much I don't want to, I have to listen to her." Jay told him.

"Come on Jay, you aren't seriously going to let that monster take over your life, are you?" Nya asked.

Jay thought for a second. "She's not taking over. She's just taking care of me."

"Why don't you just move out?" Cole suggested.

Jay laughed. "No way. Absolutely not. I'm not ready to move out."

"I'm sure my brother wouldn't mind you staying with us." Nya told him.

"I can't. Aunt Katherine came all this way to help, I can't just rip her off like that." Jay said.

"Suit yourself." Cole rolled his eyes.

Cole wondered off down the corridor towards Zane and Lloyd, leaving Jay and Nya by themselves.

"When am I next able to come round or had Aunt Hilda banned that happening too?" Nya joked.

"Oh, please don't start calling her Hilda. If she finds out, she'll kill me. It's bad enough that Cole says it." Jay sighed.

"Sorry. It's catchy." Nya smiled.

"I'm not sure when you can come over next. Maybe in a few days or something." Jay replied.

"It seems like the only time we'll get to spend together is during school." Nya said.

Jay nodded. "Yeah. Hopefully I can get Aunt Katherine to change her mind about you or something. I might be able to get her to understand."

"Her understanding young children feelings? I doubt it." She giggled.

Jay smiled. "True."

The bell rang for the first lesson.

"Aw dang, I gotta get to the computing rooms on the other side of the school." Nya groaned and kissed Jay's cheek. "I'll catch you at lunch."

"See ya." Jay waved as she sprinted down the corridor.

During lunch, the boys were sat at their usual table eating.

"Where's Nya?" Zane wondered.

"She'll be here soon." Jay replied after taking the last bite of his pizza.

Nya approached the table and went to sit beside Jay.

"Hey." Jay greeted her with a smile.

Before Nya could sit down, someone came up behind her and grabbed her hand. Nya turned her head to see who it was.

"Skylor?" She frowned.

"Who?" Zane whispered to Jay.

"Can we talk?" Skylor asked her, sounding pretty annoyed.

"Y-yeah, sure." Nya told her as Skylor dragged her away from the table.

"What was that about?" Lloyd asked.

"That's her brother's girlfriend, aka her best friend." Jay explained.

"I'm guessing Nya ditched her for you and she's pretty upset about that." Cole joked.

"Maybe." Jay frowned.

Skylor took Nya to the table they would normally sit at together.

"Sit down." Skylor demanded. Nya sat down opposite her best friend.

"What's up?" Nya smiled guiltily.

"What are you doing hanging around with them?" Skylor asked, pointing at Jay's table.

"Whatever it was, it probably isn't important." Jay stated.

"Are you sure about that?" Cole looked over at them and spotted Skylor pointing.

Jay peered over and frowned.

"Do you think that's about us?" Lloyd wondered.

"I was just--" Nya began.

"I don't care what you were doing!!" Skylor exclaimed.

"Well you asked..." Nya murmured.

"Don't you remember what Kai told you?!" Skylor shouted in her face.

"Yes, I do but he can't keep me from seeing my boyfriend. That's ridiculous!" Nya replied.

"He forbid you from seeing him!" Skylor reminded her.

"I know but he doesn't control who I hang out with! That's up to me!" Nya told her.

"You promised him that you'd focus on the shop but you didn't. That's your fault." Skylor glared.

"If I want a boyfriend, I can have a boyfriend." Nya snapped.

"No you can't. From now on, you aren't allowed to be around them whatsoever." Skylor crossed her arms.

"What about school projects or during lessons?" Nya asked.

"Never." Skylor stated. "Maybe next time you'll learn to listen to your brother."

"This is all your fault. I thought you were my best friend. You went behind my back and told Kai about Jay and I. Best friends aren't supposed to do that." Nya gritted her teeth.

"I am loyal to Kai. I'll tell him anything." Skylor replied.

"That's the problem with you. You can't stay out of everyone else's business." Nya glared.

"I don't care what happens in your life but Kai does. Someone has to tell him everything that goes on around here." Skylor told her.

"So you care about Kai more than you care about your own best friend?!" Nya exclaimed.

"I love him." She said.

"You wouldn't know the meaning of love if it came and slapped you in the face." Nya looked over at Jay. "I love Jay. I really do. But nobody would understand that. He... he changed me."

"He made you a horrible human being!" Skylor yelled.

"No!" Nya shouted back. "He made me better! I was a mess before he helped me."

"He changed you for the worst, Nya, and he'll change you more. Believe me, I'm doing you a favour." Skylor told her.

"A favour? You must be crazy!" She exclaimed.

"I'm not the crazy one here." Skylor said softly.

"So what do you want me to do? Break up with him?" Nya joked.

Skylor thought for a second and then looked Nya dead in the eye. "Yes."

"WHAT?! YOU'RE ABSOLUTLEY CRAZY!!" Nya shouted.

"SHUSH!" Skylor leaned in. "Do you want people to look at you like you're some sort of mad man?!"

"I am not breaking up with him!" Nya exclaimed.

"Yes you are. Give me your phone." Skylor demanded.

"Absolutely not!" Nya glared.

"Give me your phone. I will not ask again." Skylor ordered.

Nya huffed and handed Skylor her phone. Skylor did some tapping around and handed the phone back.

"There. Now I blocked his number so you won't have any contact with him." Skylor looked over at Jay, who was reading something on his phone.
