Chapter Five

      The class had ended. School was over. Everyone was at Topanga's except Riley and Maya. "We do our homework here everyday." Zay said a little confused. "Did you expect them to come? I mean i wouldnt. The way that Mr. Matthews told me to say it. I feel so bad." Lucas said.      Topanga walks in and sees everyone. The group looks at her scared that she is mad at them. "Cory told me what happened." She said looking at the group. She took a seat next to Lucas. "He should have never put you in that position, Lucas." She said putting her arm aroumd him and hugging him.      "I just feel so bad for doing that to them." Lucas said looking down. "No Lucas. Dont feel bad. The girls wanted to hear your desicion if anyone should feel bad it should be that stupid Cory." she said making the group laugh at her name calling. "So they are okay?" Farkle asked. Topanga hesitated "No theyre confused. See Riley is upset that you didnt choose her but then again she is happy for Maya same thing with Maya." She said looking at the group.      Maya walked in to Topanga's everyone looked at her. Maya froze for a second and then said "Im just here for a smoothie for Riley." "One berry blast smoothie with extra berries and whipped cream please." She said to the person behinde the counter.      "Ahh, Rileys favorite." Farkle said looking at Maya. "Yep, anything to help my best friend feel better." She looks at the cashier "Thanks." Maya takes a sip and walks over to the group. "So whats everybody doing?" Maya asks even though its obvious. "Homework." Zay says sharply. "We were gonna come but Riley didnt want to so i just stuck with her." Maya said everyone nodded. "Maya." Lucas said just acknowledging her. "Ranger Rick." She said walking off.      The group just sat there doing homework an hour later Maya ran in "Anyone seen Riley?" She asked because Riley had gone out the window. "Right here peaches." Riley said walking in behind her. "I just came to get another smoothie since someone drank mine." Riley said looking at Maya who had an empty cup in her hand. Maya chuckled and threw it away. Riley ordered her smoothie but was a dollar short. "Anyone got a dollar?" Riley said. Lucas got up to hand her a dollar. Riley denied. "Anyone except Mr. Perfect have a dollar?" She said. Farkle handed her a dollar and she handed it to the cashier. "Thanks I will pay you back." She said to Farkle grabbing her smoothie and leaving.      Lucas felt bad because he knew Riley was mad at him I mean she didnt even take his dollar when she was in need. Maya sat down this time. Topanga had left a little over an hour ago so Maya took the empty seat next to Lucas. "Listen huckleberry." Maya said looking at him "Dont start anything too fast you already hurt Riley enough. I know it was your fault dont worry i already attacked Mr. Matthews." She said with total seriousness. She left without saying anything to anybody.       It was the next day at school. It was completely awkward in Mr. Matthews class. Everyone looked at everyone except Riley. She didnt look at anyone. Mr. Matthews was giving assignments and partners. Of course Riley was paired with Lucas. "Okay Riley your debate assignment is heartbreak." Mr. Matthews said. "Youre kidding me." Riley said "Your partner is Lucas." "No!" "Yes!" Riley turned around and glared at Lucas he simply smiled at her and tipped his imaginary hat causing everyone to smile and look at Riley who certainly was not smiling.      The gang was at Topanga's. Even Cory, Topanga, and Auggie. "Mommy why is Riley mad at Lucas?" Auggie asked Topanga "Because he chose Maya." Topanga told him "The devil." Topanga laughed at Auggies childish remarks.      "So Riley what do you think the definition of heartbreak is?" Lucas said. Everyone (including the three over at the counter) were looking at Riley. "Heartbreak? Oh its when your dog dies, or your friend moves, or the guy you have liked for two years since you fell on his lap on the subway chooses your best friend over you and shouts it and completely embarrases you in front of the whole class. I think that is the definition of heartbreak." Riley says storming out.      "Um, Im gonna go talk to Riley." Farkle says walking out to go find Riley. The rest of the group just sits there going on with their homework.
