blackout drunk pt. 2

Kai's arms are warm and steady as he carries me out of the ballroom. My head lolls against his shoulder, and I sigh like the most dramatic little princess who ever lived.
"I can walk," I offer, barely lifting my head.
"Sure, you can."
'I can!" I wiggle in his arms like an uncoordinated eel. "Put me down, coward."
He sighs like I'm exhausting. Then—gently, very gently—he sets me on my feet.
I immediately stumble forward into a wall.
Kai leans against the opposite side of the corridor, arms crossed. "Go ahead, Pae. Walk."
I narrow my eyes at him. Then lift my skirts. Then march—
Right into a decorative suit of armor.
It crashes spectacularly.
"Oops."
Kai
"Plagues," I mutter, dragging her out of the pile of metal.
There's glitter on her collarbone. I have no idea where it came from. Her lipstick is smudged. Her crown is still missing.
And I'm so in love with her I think I might die.
I finally get her into our chambers, closing the door behind us as she flops onto the bed like a starfish.
"You undress me," she commands, pointing a wobbly finger. "I've done enough today."
She giggles as I kneel beside the bed, fingers slipping under the hem of her heels and tugging them off.
Then, quieter, she says, "You're not mad, are you?"

I peek down at him, at the inky hair spilling below me.
"If I get a hangover tomorrow, will you still love me?" I say.
"You mean when you get a hangover tomorrow. And yes, I will still love you," he says smirking.

I regret everything.
The sun is too loud.
My head is trying to explode, my mouth tastes like shame, and my limbs feel like wet noodles.
I squint one eye open. The room is too bright. The ceiling is spinning. I groan and roll over— —directly onto a body.
A warm, solid one.
"Good morning, darling."
"Are you smiling?" I ask, dumbfounded.
"No, I'm laughing." Kai chuckles.
"I hate you."
"No you don't."
There's a glass of water on the nightstand. I reach for it, but Kai stops me. He gently props me up against the pillows, then presses the glass to my lips.
"You want toast?" He asks softly.
"With butter. And blueberry jam. And maybe a new head."
He chuckles and climbs out of bed. "Be back in ten."
Kai When I return, she's cocooned herself in the blankets like an angry burrito. Only her eyes are showing.
"You're late," she mumbles.
I set the tray beside her — toast, butter, blueberry jam, Gail's hangover remedy, and a tiny vase with a forget-me-not.
"You were wild last night," I murmur.
"I was impressive last night."
I lean closer. "You are always impressive."
She sets the toast down. Her lips pout just slightly. "Even when I drooled on your chest and tried to sword fight Jax with a breadstick?"
"Especially then."
