Dinner Party

Kai

I step out of the steamy bathroom with nothing but a towel wrapped around my waist. Paedyn looks up from the dresses she was considering. Her blue eyes travel up and down my body, and I smirk.

"See something you like, darling?" I say. 

She flushes, then says, "Yeah, I think this silver one is my favorite since I wore silver to my first ball."

"I wasn't talking about that, but that'll look very good," I say. 

She rolls her eyes."I know, Azer," she grumbles as she steps into the bathroom.

Paedyn

"I need help tying the corset, Azer!" I yell. Kai opens the bathroom door. He grins when he sees me in the dress that is now basically falling off my body.

"Okay, ready?" he asks. I nod, sucking in a deep breath before he ties the corset tight. He spins me around, giving me a once-over. I slip into my silver strappy heels, which give me about two inches of extra height. Not a lot, but better than nothing, considering we have a nine-inch height difference. He's currently in a pair of grey sweats, which hang low on his hips. I nudge him.

"You need to get changed," I tell him. He rolls his eyes and disappears into our walk-in closet. When he comes out, he's in a black tuxedo. "Perfect," I say. The corset dress I'm in is Adena's design, and it's quite itchy. The corset is squeezing all the air out of me, and the fabric isn't exactly comfortable.

"Why exactly do I have to go to this dinner?" I sigh.

"You have to meet the important people before joining the royal family," he says. I groan, but I get up to go with Kai anyway.The marble floors are cold beneath my heels as we walk through the grand halls, the candlelit sconces casting flickering shadows along the towering walls. I clutch Kai's arm a little tighter, not that I'd ever admit it's because of nerves.He glances down at me, amusement flickering in his grey eyes. "Nervous?"

"Of course not," I scoff. "I just don't want to trip and fall flat on my face in front of a room full of nobles." Kai grins. 

"That would be entertaining."I elbow him, making him chuckle. But as we approach the heavy double doors leading to the dining hall, my stomach twists. 

"You'll be fine, darling," Kai murmurs, squeezing my hand briefly before letting go. "Just smile and pretend you like them."

"Like you do?" I whisper back, arching a brow. His smirk is all the answer I need. "Try not to cause too much trouble tonight, darling."

"No promises," I murmur, earning another grin from him. This night just got a lot more interesting.

hey yall mb for not posting earlier. this chapter is quite short because i cut out a lot of the parts i didnt like. sorry! should i post a chapter w smut tmrw??? it'll be a continuation of this chapter, so after the dinner party.
