Paedyn

I know something's up the second Kai drags me outside. His grip is firm but warm, and he's unusually quiet.

"Kai, where are we going?" I ask, narrowing my eyes at him.

He just smirks. "Patience, darling."

I roll my eyes but let him lead me through the garden, past the lantern-lit pathways, until we reach the willow tree. Our spot. The air is cool, the leaves shifting with the breeze, and for a second, it's just the two of us.

Kai turns to face me, rubbing the back of his neck. "Okay, so—" He exhales, like he's trying to work up the nerve to say something. Which is weird. Kai Azer is never nervous.

I cross my arms. "Are you dying?"

He laughs, shaking his head. "No, but if you keep interrupting, I might change my mind about this."

Before I can shoot back a reply, he drops down on one knee.

My heart stops.

She freezes. I swear she stops breathing.

"Paedyn," I say, looking up at her. "You drive me insane. You're reckless, stubborn, and never listen to me." I grin. "And I am so in love with you."

She blinks, her mouth opening, then closing.

I pull out the ring. "Marry me?"

Nothing.

Then she groans. "You absolute idiot—"

I barely have time to react before she yanks me up by my shirt and kisses me. She kisses me hard. Her lips are all over mine, her hands in my hair, and my arms around her. 

When she finally pulls away, she presses her forehead against mine. "Yes, you idiot," she mutters, breathless.

I laugh, sliding the ring onto her finger.

She's mine. Officially.

And damn, does that feel good.
