Fairy lights

As we drove up the driveway of our new California home, I couldn't help but be excited. It's a fresh start for me, so I can forget about everything that happened in Ohio, and most importantly, forget about Kyle.

As soon as I walked into the beautiful two story beige house, I fell in love. There were two bathrooms, three bedrooms, a huge kitchen, at the prettiest living room I had ever seen.

"Do you like it?" My dad asks me after I finished house exploring.

"Yeah, it's amazing. Thank you, you guys are the best." I say as I walk up to him and give him a hug.

"Your room in the one on the left, next to the bathroom. It's the biggest one." My dad states. "The movers already places all the furniture and bedding in all of the house, you just need to go and place your belongings."

"Okay dad, thanks." I say as I head into my room, ready to unpack.

"So, are you done unpacking?"

I look up and see my mom in the doorway.

"Yeah, I finished about 30 minutes ago."

"The fairy light are a nice touch."

"Thanks, mom." I reply, proud of the way I set up my room.

"So, I was wondering if you wanted to go for a drive? You know, so we can get the gist of where things are and what to do and stuff."

"Yeah sure, I'll be right down."

"Okay Hun."

And with that, she goes downstairs.

I quickly put on my all black converse, and ran a brush through my hair. I was wearing a Get Scared shirt and white jeans.

After one last look in the mirror and making sure my makeup wasn't smudged, I headed downstairs.

"Ready mom?"

"Ready." My mom says as she starts walking out the door.

"Bye dad, love you!"

"Bye honey, have fun!"

I walked out of the door and into the passenger seat of my mom's car, the engine was already on.

"Hey mom, can I plug in my phone and play music?"

"Sure honey."

I grabbed the aux cord from the backseat and plugged one end into the phone and the other into the radio.  Helena by My Chemical Romance started playing.

Five minutes into the drive, my mom pointed out the school that I would start on Monday.

"Look honey, that's it." My mom said while she pointed her finger at a medium sized gray brick building.

"West Grove High School?"

"Yeah." She replied enthusiastically.

Not far from the school, we found the cutest little bakery with an open sign on the front.

"I'm down for a cupcake, what about you ma?"

"Totally."

Once we parked, we got off and sat in one of the tiny tables inside of the bakery. We both ordered chocolate cupcakes, and chatted away until we were finished.

"Ready to go home?" My mom asked, throwing away her cupcake wrapper.

"Yes." I say and follow her outside after I do the same with my wrapper.

"Honey, we're home!" Mom announces very loudly.

"Imogen, where's your father?" She turns to ask me after hearing no reply.

"Well I know he's here, his car is in the driveway."

After much searching, we found him snoring on the couch.

"I guess the move got to him." My mom says with s giggle.

"Go to bed honey, goodnight." My mom tells me and then kisses me onthe forehead.

"Night ma." I say and head up the stairs.

Once upstairs, I decided to Skype Shannon, I know she's awake.

I opened my laptop and sat it on my white desk. A few seconds of button pushing and...

"OH MY GOD IMOGEN I MISS YOU!" I hear Shannon's voice blare through my Mac's speakers.

"I MISS YOU TOO!" I yell back.

We talked for about an hour before she brought up the subject I didn't want to talk about.

"So, did you hear about Kyle?"

"No... What happened?" I felt my heart pounding in my chest.

"He got a girlfriend. They actually look pretty serious."

"Oh." Was all I could say.

"Yeah, her name is Meghan. Look her up on Instagram. Her user is meghvnmvrie"
