Chapter 24

19:12, 10 April 2015

Misty's POV

My alarm clock woke me up this morning. It was 7:30. I needed to get to work by 8:30. I got up from my warm bed still drowsy of sleep.

After brushing up I decided to grab breakfast at Starbucks with coffee to wake me up since I was too lazy to make myself breakfast.

As I got out of breakfast I grabbed my phone to text Calum Goodmorning. I stopped myself because I remembered.

I remembered he was missing.

I grabbed my purse and my keys heading out the door so I wouldn't be late for work. As I closed the door I turned to drop my stuff on the passenger seat. I noticed there was a black hoodie sitting in the seat. I picked it up and hugged it taking in his scent.

I miss him.

6 more days until he leaves.

I finally broke and took my phone and dialed Calum's number. I doubted that he would pick up but I stilled hoped he did.

I counted the rings.

Wait what.

"C-Calum?"

I felt tears coming in my eyes. Tears of joy.

"Misty are you okay?"

He must've just woken up. His voice was very deep and scratchy.

"Yeah."

I started my car realizing that I've waited for too long. I decided not I get Starbucks and go straight to work.

"Misty I'm so sorry please understand."

"OK. Are you all right?"

"Yeah I'm okay."

His voice was shaky. Something was wrong but I won't push it until later. I turned into the parking lot parking my car and grabbing my bags.

"I gotta go."

I half walked half jogged up to the sliding doors.

"Wait where are you."

"Bye Calum!"

I ended our call because my boss was standing in the lobby talking to the receptionist, Caroline.

"Goodmorning Misty!"

My boss greeted me as I walk towards the receptionist desk grabbing a cookie.

"Morning Chris."

"I have a special job for you today."

Chris turned and held a file in his hands labeled 'photo shoot'.

"What's this?"

I asked him as I opened up the folder which contained descriptions of ideal places probably for a photo shoot.

"There was a band manager who sent me an email this morning asking for locations that would look nice for a photo shoot."

"Oh I see."

I flipped through the 4 page booklet reading the bullet points.

'Dark alley way' to bring out the bad boy image in them.

"Do you know what band this is for?"

I kept looking through the pages to see any logo or sign with a band name on it but I didn't seem to find one.

"He hasn't confirmed to me about that one yet. But when he does I'll inform you about it."

"Alright thank you! I'll get started with this now."

I walked into the elevator to go to the 3rd floor which was where my office was located at. I opened the Manila folder again reading the first page which had plenty of descriptions and a couple of black and white pictures at the bottom.

The elevator door opened and a boy around my age stepped in.

"Hey."

He said as the door closed going up to the 3rd floor.

"Hi."

I gave him a warm smile before stepping out of the elevator and walking to my office. I set my purse on the ground and took out the papers from the folder. I spread them out neatly so that the papers where easier to look at.

I turned on my computer and waited for it to load.

I started to read the first page carefully now.

• bad boy image

• a dark place

• alley way

• downtown

The bullets kept going on about bringing the 'bad boy' image out of this mystery band. I googled a couple of placed located in London that recent bands have had photo shoots at. About an hour later after jotting down plenty of addresses that could be nice for the photo shoot there was a knock on my door. I looked up over the computer monitor to see the boy that I saw in the elevator today.

"Hi are you Misty?"

He had a nice American accent.

"Yes I am. Can I help you with something?"

I stacked the papers up in a pile and slid it back into the folder that it was previously in.

"Actually I'm here to help you."

He smiled and walked into my office and sat down on the chair in front of me.

"Oh did Chris send you?"

He nodded and scooted his chair so he was comfortable.

"He told me to tell you that I'm going with you to help with the scenery and stuff."

"Oh that's cool. I'm sorry I never got your name."

I gave a small laugh as he smiled again.

"Sorry I'm Ryan."

"Hi Ryan."

"Well just call me when you find the locations and we can start from there? Yeah?"

He sat up and pushed his chair into the desk ready to leave.

"Actually I found a couple of sites where we can start. One of them isn't too far from here."

I took out my note pad with the addresses scribbled on it.

"If you don't mind we can start now?"

He gave me an approving nod and tilted his head to see the first address I wrote down.

"That's not too far from this Italian restaurant that opened. Do you want to go there after, for dinner?"

He shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other waiting for my reply. Was he asking me on a date? Well he didn't really say it was a date so I just agreed.

"Sure we could get to know each other better."

I laughed and took my purse and folder walking out of my office and to the elevator.

"So how long have you been working here?"

Ryan asked me as he pressed the elevator button that would take us to the lobby.

"I've been here for about a month and a half."

"Ah I see."

"What about you?"

I asked giving him the same question to continue our conversation.

"For about 3 weeks actually."

The elevator door opened and we walked into the bright lobby. Caroline was talking to someone through the head set she wears ignoring Ryan and I as we walk past her desk.

"Do you just want to take one car?"

He says as I unlock my car the headlights blinking.

"Yeah sure."

I put my stuff in the back seat before sitting in the drivers seat.

"Here's your hoodie."

Ryan said holding up Calum's black hoodie that was still on the passengers seat where I left it this morning.

"Oh that's not mine."

I laughed awkwardly as I tossed it in the back as well.

"Who's is it then?"

Ryan asks buckling his seat belt.

"It's my boyfriend's."

From the corner of my eye I saw him stiffen and lock his fingers together fiddling with them.

"Oh I see. What's his name?"

"Calum."

I took my phone out to type in the address. There was a miss call from Calum and some texts from him as well. I unlocked my phone not opening the texts yet.

"His name sounds familiar."

"Oh really? Where did you hear his name from?"

His response suddenly catching my attention.

"I don't remember actually."

"Hm when you do tell me."

I smiled as my phone listed the directions to the location. I turned on the radio and listened to some pop songs that were over played just trying to fill in the silence that was in my car at the moment. We were 15 minutes into the drive until 'Don't Stop' came on the radio. I tried to fight the urge to sing along since this was one of my favorite songs by the boys.

Ryan reached his hand to the volume knob turning it up a little. It surprised me.

"Sorry do you mind?"

"Oh no I'm just surprised."

I awkwardly laughed.

"Yeah this band is actually really good."

Ryan started to snap along to Luke's solo part. He started to sing Calum's part completely off key. I laughed shaking my head as I turned at a stoplight. After the song ended Ryan turned his head towards me.

"Is this Calum from a band by any chance?"

I bit my lip deciding if I should say yes or no.

"I don't know why?"

I raised my eyebrow at him in a joking manner.

"I think that there's a Calum in the 5 seconds of summer band."

"So that's where you heard his name from?"

I stopped the car since we've reached our destination. Ryan shook his head as we got out looking at old building that we came too for pictures.

"Then yes. He is from 5 seconds of summer."

We walked up to a Victorian style house. It was built up of bricks. I thought it would look nice for a photo shoot.

"If we do the shoot here we could have it here."

Ryan led me around the house showing me one side of the house that seemed old.

The cement that held the bricks together was cracking and vines were growing all over the place.

"Should we notify the owner and ask to take photos here?"

I shook my head.

"This place is abandoned."

"Oh ok."

Ryan took his phone out and took photos of the place. It was around 6:45 and it was pretty dark outside. I checked my phone opening up Calum's texts finally.

-Call me when you get home?

-I have something to tell you.

Why does he have something to tell me?

I locked my phone looking up as Ryan walked towards me smiling at his phone.

"Look at these."

He gave me his phone as I swiped through the pictures that he took of the place.

"Wow these are amazing."

I handed him back his phone and started walking back to my car. Ryan walked beside me.

"Are you doing anything tomorrow? So we can go to the other locations?"

"I'll call you or something."

I shrugged. Just then a flash from across the street took us by surprise. What was that?

"What was that?"

Ryan asked as he stopped.

"I'm not sure."

I unlocked my door hurrying to start the car.

"We better get home. Sorry we can go to dinner next time."

Ryan said as he buckled his seatbelt.

"Yeah sorry."

I turned out of the lot of land that I parked my car on waiting for the cars to pass by. Another flash caught my attention.

"Did you see that?"

I asked Ryan as I turned the corner.

"Yeah weird."

As I turned the corner I saw a photographer and a couple of girls with 5sos shirts on holding their phone and cameras out taking pictures of me. I placed my hand over my face earning more flashes. I stepped on the gas pedal to get away from them.

"So you're famous then?"

I shrugged staring at the road as it passed by in a blur.

"My boyfriend is. Not me."

Ryan nodded and sat back making himself comfortable for the 30 minute drive back to work.
