Reality

We all walk quietly, I'm surprised we never ran into any signs of life yet. We walked a little further to see these kinds of larger birds.

They looked like ostriches but half the size. Aspen hands me my bow, So I gently pushed through the group aiming...

I let the arrow fly.

BOOM

We all duck, well there's a cannon but who would have killed?

" Well maybe that was Brutus." Aspen says smirking.

" That's a little to convenient." I mumble looking around.

" She's right something is up." River says, " Let's rest here. See if we can see or hear anything."

Everyone sits down having a snack, I go to grab the bird. " Want me to clean it?" River asks. " Finnick would always make me clean the things we caught."

I hand him the bird. " By all means. Thanks." I pecked his cheek sitting down.

While they were snacking and talking I see Aspen get up walking just a little further looking around.

I decide to go by him, It'll probably be good to look at the area for anything since the last cannon was not to long ago.

" What are you thinking about?" I ask.

" If I say, I think we are going to be in trouble."

I furrow my brows " What do you mean?" 

" I'm trying to make an analysis, to figure something out."

" What are you trying to figure out?"

" The number of the people in here."

" Why do you want to know that?"

" Why would they want the games only 2-3 days long? He snips.

I let out a nervous sigh " Good point."

I thought I heard something.

I give him a look grabbing a knife.

I hear a twig snap, then a slice in the air, I  rolled just in time a knife grazed my face. Ow.

I girl jumps out trying to run.

" Get her!" I yell.

I never saw her before, she looked clean, well rested and fed. On her clothes there was no district number, but a long number like a ID or something.

River throws a spear at her, he misses but it still hits her leg, she falls down and I jumped on top of her. She had shorter black hair and brown eyes, along with tattoos all on her neck.

" Who are you?" I tease grazing my knife on her face. she doesn't say anything, she tries to wiggle out of my grasp but my larger stature wouldn't let her.

" Kill her Kay!" River says behind me, the rest were around watching to make sure no one else comes. "Grab me some rope. I want answers." I tell them.

Someone grabs some rope and we tie her by a large rock. " Now we can do this the easy or hard way, we actually have somewhere to be and you throwing a knife wasn't really smart on your part.." I kneel down by her, I guess this is one of the Capitols events.

More people..maybe a type of mutt? No, she looks to human to be a mutt.

Again she doesn't say anything she just looks at me with an amused smile.

I felt myself get angry but I won't let her see it. " Ok, the hard way it is. Someone make a fire."

Lilli and Colin made a fire out of some hanging brush that were around the cliffs. Maybe if we're lucky, it'll attract the rest of the tributes to kill.

" This is going to fun." I smile. " Aspen, grab me my small sword."

He goes grabbing the small sword handing it to me. He looks confused as he sits a couple feet from me. River and the others were scanning the area to make sure there's no more unexpected appearances.

I put the blade in the fire giving her a look. The girl looked at me then at the small sword in the fire, her face falling into a worried expression.

I see the others giving the same look. They don't want torture, but I want answers.

Aspen also was looking at the sword swallowing before looking back at me.

" This is how this is going to go. Your going to tell me exactly what I want to know, if you don't.." I trailed off toying with the sword. " Hopefully you like heat. And if I like your answers.. You can join us."

The girl glares at me, still she stays silent.

I smirk. "Ok." I grabbed the sword about to put it on her arm.

" Doja! My name is Doja." She says quickly.

I pull the sword away setting it back in the fire, I sit back a little.

" What are they teaching in 2?" She mutters, " I didn't think you were actually going to do it."

The corners my mouth turn up. " Why scare when you can do the real thing?" I ask smartly. " But.. My name is Kaylaya."

She scoffs," I think everyone knows who you are. Your quite famous right now."

I give a small laugh, " Trust me, I'm well aware."

" People would get great fame if they killed you." Doja says giving another grin.

" So far no one has gotten close, but you already know that." I say giving her a grin to match hers.

She still smiles but looks away.

" So who are you? And why are you here?" I ask again.

" I thought you were abnormally smart, I'm surprised you didn't figure it out already."

" If I knew I wouldn't be asking."

She looks around, " Almost everyone is dead and it's only the second day. They needed more people."

Interesting.

I lifted my brow " So what? People are just volunteering to get put in here?"

Doja laughs, " I think if that was the case you'd see alt of your district in here right? No. See this ID?"

The long number was an ID.

" They put some of the top criminals in here. If we win, we get all charges dropped and live in the Capitol." She says.

Honestly I'm ok with criminals, the Capitol could have been a lot more creative in their killing ways.

" What did you do so bad to get thrown in?" I ask as I surveyed her. She doesn't look like a killer.

" I killed Disrtict 1's finest... Uthred." She said with the most wicked grin.

I heard about that, some freak broke in killing him. He was a good mentor bringing home 6 victors. Dead smart and strong. Sorry...was.

" So your from 1 then?" I ask.

" Obvisously." She states dumbly.

" So how did you do it." I say intrigued. She lifts a eyebrow and scoffs. " How did I kill Uthred?"

" Yea, how'd you manage to pull that off?" I ask.

I'm sure her gloating will give her great pleasure, maybe I can learn something to use against her, or to avoid.

And she took the bait, she adjusted herself. The proudest smile appeared on her face.

" First you need a real drive, a drive so strong you will do anything and everything. He was always wicked and horrible to the low income kids, especially me he would do things to me.." She says, her jaw clenched reliving old memories.

" You don't need to tell me, I get the point." I say honestly, I probably would have did the same thing if I was her.

" It happens a lot actually in the schools" she continues. " Finally I was done, I was one of the top ones of the class but never got picked to volunteer, so I went to work with some of the younger kids and one day he saw me alone and he wanted to remake memories."

Her expression dulled looking into the fire " So that night I followed him back to his house. He would take sleeping medicine, probably because of this place so I waited and snuck in. I did everything imaginable." She explained what she did and It actually made me scared of her, she pulled out his eyes, skinned him cut parts of him off and much more.

" Well I'm sorry that happened to you." That's all I could say I didn't know what to say or do.

She laughed again " It's ok, I think I got him back."

" That you definently did."

She looked at all of us, studying, searching for something.

" So what are you going to do with me hmm?Kill me? Use me as bait? Or just leave me here?"

She seems to deadly to be kept alive, but also useful. Especially when there's more people in here now.

We can take her if we spilt.

" No, I think you proved your useful. You'll die if your by yourself. And seeing there's more people and the second day.. We need all we can get."

" Then when you split up?" She says furrowing her eyebrows.

" We're not the careers. We're sticking together." I say boldly. I almost believed myself.

She looks at the ground then back up at us. " Ok, I'm in."

River gets up and sticks a knife to her throat.

" River!"

His focus is all on Doja, " But don't you think for one second about crossing us got it? Or we'll make sure you look the same as what Uthred did."

Doja nods, " Crazy one, I like it."

I untie her, and we head more into the hills.

" Are you sure?" Aspen whipsers.

" She can come with us."

He looks at me then at her, " Good plan."

We hear a heart wrenching scream along with these dog like shrieks. " Mutts." Prim says.

" Get down!" River says.

All of us duck, until we finally see who and what were running.

There was Brutus and Mel running, and behind them was a mutated horse. It had long sharp teeth and snake like eyes, it grabbed ahold of Mel ripping her apart.

Brutus tried stopping it taking his sword with both arms slashing it's head but it ducked biting his arm clean off.

He bleeds out right there.

2 cannons.

I look wide-eyed. Horrified even it just... Killed them like that. I saw them get mauled.

I felt like I was going to be sick.

" Stay still." River says, eyes wide.

All our eyes were wide, looking at the beast. It licks some of the blood before raising it's head, the ears pinned to the back of it's head. It sniffs the air facing us.

It shrieks running towards us.

" High ground! go, go, go, go!" We all ran up the cliffs climbing as fast as our limbs would carry us. The mutt was going fast catching up, it was abnormally big, probably as big as a draft horse if not a little bit bigger.

I was burning, when I tried to breathe it burned, I started thinking about my parents, Zane, life back home, not going back there scared me, after that my body seemed to move a lot faster.

I hear another scream.

I quickly look seeing Aspen right behind me.

Finally I reached the top, Pulling Aspen up.

" You ok?" I heave.

He nods.

The mutt was still crawling up. I take a knife throwing it in it's eye. Making it fall backwards down the hill. I see it lay limp blood coming out of it. Good I think it's dead.

" Mental note: The eye." Aspen says.

I give a unamused smile at him, still trying to catch my breath.

I notice no one else made it up the mountain to the flat that we're on. I look back down to see Colin laying there and everyone else around him.

" Crap." Aspen whispers.

" Come on." I say shuffling back down to where the rest were.

Lilli was holding him in her lap. " What happened?!" I said he was still breathing, thankfully.

" The Mutt got him in the back of his leg, He's bleeding out." Doja whispered in my ear. He was crying, he looked terrified.

Lilli was a mess.

He now looks like a kid laying there, a scared kid. He is just a kid, a kid that...

Won't make it home. Colin isn't going to make it.

He was always so light hearted, he was always smiling, making jokes, and telling me compliments.

Just like he did last night.

I feel the tightness in my chest.

No.. No I'm not crying. I can't cry.

I won't cry.

" Kay, get a sponsor to send something!" Lilli sobbed.

I looked at the sky, I probably looked lost, Colin lost a lot of blood there's a whole pool around them. Lilli had it tied off to stop the bleeding but I don't think it's helping much.

He's not going to make it.

" It's ok Lilli, It's ok, it's ok. I'll watch over you always and forever." Colin whispered.

" No , no ,no , no Colin. Colin!" Lilli sobbed again.

"Say it Lilli, one last time."

She nods sobbing " Always and Forever Colin, always and forever."

He smiles, " Good. I want yo to try, try your hardest for me, for mom, for dad. Keep them safe." Colin said and with that he was gone.  His cannon went off, Doja, Prim and River all had tears in their eyes, I didn't I want to but didn't I need to be strong for the group.

I hear another shriek, I see two more of those things coming from way over. I nudge Aspen pointing over, he looks at them, then at Colin's body.

" We need to go." Aspen says. "I bet the ones down there can smell blood and we don't need another one coming after us." Of course we need the one to bring the bad news but we need to go.

Anyone could've seen that. They heard it. 3 cannons they'll be moving.

" Lilli I'm sorry but we really need to go Colin wants you to live, he's gone it's just a body now. We need to take his stuff and leave." She looks like she wants to kill me, I know I'm being kinda rude but it's for our own good.

She gets up grabbing much of Colin's things including some of his clothes and we head up towards the mountain to find somewhere to rest.
