Chapter 47: The Stars After The Storm!
07:12, 11 July 2025The gentle rustling of leaves and the distant chirping of birds filled the air. The peaceful serenity of Koma Village remained untouched, its beauty unchanged by time.
The sun cast golden glow through the treetops, illuminating the familiar riverside within the Bey Forest, the sound of spinning beys echoed through the air.
Along the riverbank, young Gingka, Haruka, Hyoma and Hokuto (A puppy at this point :>) were present. They were launching their beys making it across the river.
Hyoma made a launch and managed to get to the other side, "That was awesome Hyoma!" Gingka cheered.
"You did great!" Haruka added.
"Yeah! Haruka, you go next." Hyoma said.
"Ok!" Haruka went to launch, as their laughter echoed through the quiet and serene forest....
At Koma Village, a quiet house stood against the backdrop of the mountains. The scent of fresh wood filled the air as rhythmic chopping echoed from the backyard.
Ryu stood at the back porch, splitting logs with ease, while Kenshiro, a wise old dog, observed nearby. He was watching with a knowing gaze. However, his ears perked when he noticed a figure standing quietly at a little distance.
Just a few feet away, Hana stood lost in thought, gazing into the distance with a contemplative expression.
As Ryu set another log in place, Kenshiro's sharp gaze flickered. Following the dog's gaze, Ryu straightened, wiping sweat from his brow, and turned toward his wife. He knew that look-it was rare, but when it surfaced, it meant she had something on her mind.
Kenshiro, simply nodded toward her in silence.
Ryu, dusting off his hands, he walked toward her. "Hana," he called, his usual lighthearted tone laced with curiosity.
She blinked, snapping out of her trance. "Hm?"
"You Okay?" Ryu asked.
Hana blinked before shaking her head. "Uh... it's nothing."
"You sure? You looked like you were about to scold the clouds for floating too slowly." Ryu teased.
She let out a soft chuckle, then sighed. "No, nothing like that. Its just about time for lunch... Gingka and Haruka should be back by now. They've been out since morning."
Ryu laughed, crossing his arms. "That's those two for you. Once they get into their battles, nothing else exists. You can give them a stadium, a challenge, training, anything and they'll forget everything else-including food."
He continued, his arms crossed, "Especially Haruka. The moment she hears anything from you, anything about her battles, or even yours, she's all fired up."
As a smile spread across Hana's face. A moment of silence passed before Hana's expression became solemn. Her voice softened. "Yes, but.... I might not always be there for her... or for Gingka."
Ryu's smile faltered slightly at her sudden shift in tone. He studied her expression, sensing something deeper behind her words. "Hana...?"
Before he could say more-
"ACHOO!"
The couple turned toward the sound.
The sound of sneezing was followed by the sight of two completely drenched children standing there. Gingka and Haruka stood shivering, their teeth chattering, while Hyoma and Hokuto stood beside them, looking thoroughly exasperated.
Kenshiro shook his head at the sight, as he came beside Hokuto. "Well, that answers where they were."
Hana's eyes widened in alarm. "What happened to you two?"
Both siblings pointed at each other simultaneously.
"It was His fault!"
"It was Her fault!"
"My Fault?!" Both said looking to each other pounting in anger.
"It was Your fault!" They said pointing to each other. "It's not My fault! It's your fault!"
Ryu stifled a laugh while Hana sighed.
"Enough, you two." She turned to Hyoma, the calmer of the bunch. "Hyoma, what happened?"
Hyoma nodded. "We were practicing launching our Beys across the river. Then..." he said recounting what had happened....
A Little while ago....
On the smooth stones lining the riverbank, young Gingka and Haruka were locked in a friendly yet competitive training session.
Hyoma and Hokuto stood nearby, watching the twins as they took turns launching their beys across the water, aiming to land them perfectly on the small rocks protruding from the river's surface.
"Alright, watch this, Haruka!" Gingka declared, brimming with confidence as he pulled back his launcher. "This one's gonna land right in the center!"
Haruka, not one to back down from a challenge. "You say that every time! Let's see if you can actually pull it off!" She tightened her grip on her own launcher, eyes sharp with determination.
With synchronized motions, both twins launched at the exact same moment. Their beys shot forward, crossing the river's surface in a blur of motion. But instead of landing perfectly, they collided mid-air with a sharp clang! The unexpected impact sent both beys spinning wildly-straight into the river.
"Ah-!" Gingka yelped.
"No!" Haruka gasped.
Without hesitation, the twins lunged forward at the same time, reaching out in a futile attempt to grab their beys. But in their rush, they miscalculated their footing.
"Wait, wait, wai-AHHH!"
With a loud splash, both Gingka and Haruka tumbled headfirst into the river.
Hyoma blinked, watching the scene unfold before him. "...Gingka, Haruka-?"
Hokuto sighed, already shaking his head.
Cold water rushed over them, causing both siblings to yelp. They scrambled to their feet, now completely drenched from head to toe....
Hyoma recounted as he gestured toward the drenched siblings. "And...This happened."
Ryu chuckled, shaking his head. "Sounds about right."
Hana sighed but wasn't surprised, she knew her two children and how they can be, "Honestly..." She stepped forward placing a hand on their foreheads, checking their temperature. They were cold, but not feverish. "We might need to call a doctor,"
The moment those words left her lips, Gingka and Haruka stiffened. Their heads snapped toward each other, their eyes wide with mutual horror. "Doctor?!"
Hana turned heading inside as she came out with small towels for the two.
"M-mom, we're fine!" Gingka stammered, puffing out his chest despite his violent shivering.
Haruka, trying to muster the most innocent expression she could, quickly nodded. "R-Really! No need for a doctor at all!"
Hana looked at them raising a brow, knowing what the two were trying. "Oh?" She watched as the two shuffled backward, inching away as if planning a grand escape. She sighed, exchanging a knowing glance with Ryu, giving him a small nod.
Ryu grinned, amused by their antics. At the small nod from Hana, he stepped behind them. Before Gingka and Haruka could bolt-
"Gotcha!"
Ryu grabbed them, lifting them off the ground before they could make their escape.
The two froze and blinked, turning to each other in horror. "We've Been Caught!"
Hana chuckled at their identical looks of defeat. She walked up, gently wrapping a towel around Gingka first, then carefully placing another around Haruka before pulling her into her arms.
Haruka, still desperate, tried one last attempt. She looked up at Hana with her biggest, pleading eyes. "Mom, we really don't need a doctor..."
Gingka furiously nodded in agreement. "Y-yeah, no doctors! And no medicine!"
Haruka shook her head, "And definitely no shots!"
Ryu, holding onto Gingka, chuckled at their joint effort to avoid medical attention.
Hana sighed, smiling fondly. "Relax. I'm not calling a doctor."
The siblings blinked in surprise. "You're not?"
"Not unless you actually get sick." She said adding with a firm tone: "But if you don't change right now, then you will get sick, and then we'll have to call a doctor."
Gingka and Haruka exchanged relieved glances, the tension melting away.
"Alright then," Hana said, giving them a warm smile, "Now let's get you into dry clothes and then get you something warm to eat."
"Okay!" They said in unison, the twins allowed themselves to be led inside, their small, shivering forms wrapped in warmth and comfort.....
As the memory faded, reality slowly settled back in.
The evening sky painted the city in hues of orange and gold, the sun nearing the horizon as its warm glow cast long shadows. The air was calm, the only sound being the gentle rush of the river flowing nearby.
On a familiar hill by the riverside, a lone figure lay with her orange hood pulled over her head, shielding her face from the light. Her arms were tucked behind her head, her posture relaxed.
The distant sound of the flowing river filled the silence. Those memories of the past, from Koma Village, brought comfort- a small smile played on her lips.
"Doesn't seem like the place to catch some sleep." A voice came from above her, tinged with amusement.
Haruka blinked beneath her hood before sitting up, pushing it back as she turned over her shoulder. Standing there, dressed in a sharp suit-white shirt, black pants, a red coat, and a blue tie-was Ryu, her father.
She smiled, "Well, I wasn't sleeping, just bored. Nothing exciting is going on. It's a bit dull." Her gaze drifted to the calm river, an amused expression crossing her face before she turned back. "And I'm still getting used to the new look, Dad."
Ryu chuckled. "It's not that different, is it?"
"You've never worn a suit in your life before this," she pointed out with a smirk.
"Fair enough. But I guess that's what happens when you become the director of the WBBA."
A little while later, the two walked side by side along the riverside, the golden light reflecting off the water.
"Well, I'd imagine things aren't that exciting right now. It's only been two weeks since Battle Bladers ended. The WBBA is just getting back on track," Ryu remarked.
"I can see that," Haruka said, thinking back to what had happened during the tournament. "The tournament had become very serious. The final battle specially. And with the Dark Nebula pulling the strings behind it all..." She trailed off, her expression clouding.
Ryu noticed. "What's wrong?"
Haruka hesitated for a moment before sighing. "When I think about it... I should've won my battle, you know."
Ryu raised an eyebrow. "You had a tough battle, and you gave it everything you had."
"Yeah... but I should've won," she admitted, something weighing in her voice, "Maybe then..."
Ryu studied her face, sensing the frustration still lingering inside her. "Well, nothing you can do about it now, can you? It's all done and gone!" He said musing aloud.
Haruka turned to him, taken aback. "You're awful, Dad! Don't say it like that!" She said, crossing her arms, sighing. "I know what happened after my battle... How bad it turned out for Kyoya in his match... and how much worse it got for Gingka."
Her expression tightened as memories flooded her mind-Kyoya's brutal loss, Gingka barely holding on in the final battle.
"If I had won my battle... then they wouldn't have gone through all that. I had the strength to stop L Drago...but I failed. I lost..."
There was silence for a moment, then Ryu spoke, "So, are you going to keep blaming yourself?"
Haruka looked at him. "Huh?"
"Listen, Haruka." His voice was steady but firm. "You gave it your very best in that battle. You even went beyond the strength people thought you had. At the end of the day, everything turned out alright, didn't it? Gingka defeated Ryuga and L-Drago."
Haruka lowered her gaze. "Yeah..."
"And he couldn't have done it alone. It was thanks to all of your friends and your strength." He looked at her knowingly. "I'm sure you heard from the others."
Haruka thought back. She had heard from them about that strange surge of power in the final battle-Phoenix's strength suddenly appearing to aid Pegasis, tipping the fight in their favor.
"Yeah... everyone said it was Phoenix's power that came through," she murmured. "Although... I don't know how that happened...It was strange in my battle too."
Ryu glanced at her. "Strange?"
"Mhm... In my battle, there was a moment where I honestly felt... nothing," Haruka admitted, gazing at her hand in thought. "I wasn't afraid, I wasn't angry, I didn't feel anything. It was like all emotions vanished, and I was just fighting with an overwhelming power, on...Pure Instinct."
"Pure instinct?" Ryu thought, thinking about it. "So, what happened at the end?"
"Hm?" Haruka looked questionable.
"At the end of your battle, according to your friend Madoka, Phoenix's strength increased dramatically, and in full on final chance you were willing to risk it all in that final attack. So what happened there?" Ryu asked, thinking about it himself.
Haruka thought for a moment before responding, "I heard...."
"Hm?" Ryu looked questionable.
"I heard someone call my name." Haruka hesitated, her mind drifting back.
The memory came rushing back-
The battlefield had been a blur of clashing energy and fiery determination. The deafening roar of the crowd, the crackling intensity of their battle, the sheer force of L Drago pushing against her. But she refused to back down.
"I will not be defeated!" Haruka's voice had rung out, her fiery determination unwavering as she readied her final attack.
"NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, I'LL MAKE SURE YOU'RE DEFEATED!!!!" She had roared, her crimson eyes sharp with resolve.
A surge of power had erupted from within her, Phoenix responding to her unyielding will. She had felt it-this was her moment, the decisive strike. She didn't care what happened to her, didn't care about the consequences. If it meant stopping L Drago, she was willing to give it her all.
But then-
'Haruka.'
A calm voice had called out to her, stopping her cold. It had been gentle, but firm, cutting through the chaos of the battle.
Her breath had hitched, and in that fleeting moment of hesitation, her crimson eyes had flickered back to their usual amber. Before she could react, the explosion of energy had engulfed the stadium, and the next thing she knew, it all went black....
Back in the present, Haruka exhaled, "I was ready to go all in, to give everything in that final attack. I didn't care what happened to me as long as it meant stopping L Drago. But just as I was about to strike... I heard someone calling out to me. I hesitated for just an instant, and before I knew it, the battle was over."
Ryu remained silent, deep in thought. The weight of Haruka's words hung between them, the mystery of that moment lingering. Who did she hear call out to her? Did she imagine it?
Whatever had happened to Haruka during that battle was beyond normal explanation. But rather than let her dwell on it, he smiled and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Well, we can't know for sure what it was or why it happened, but in the end, it's been resolved. That's what matters."
Haruka took a deep breath, exhaling away the doubts clouding her mind, "Yeah."
They continued walking, the conversation settling into a comfortable lull. The rhythmic sounds of the water filling the spaces between their words. After a moment, Haruka glanced at her father. "Dad, do you think it was okay to let Ryuga leave with L Drago?"
Ryu considered her question. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, we were supposed to take it back, and stop it from falling into the wrong hands." Haruka said thoughtfully. "I mean, I guess it's fine since the dark power was defeated, but... I don't know."
Ryu looked ahead thoughtfully. "It's not a problem. It was Doji who was planning to use the dark power for whatever his plan may have been. But now, with the dark power defeated, L Drago isn't a threat anymore. And at the end of the day, Ryuga is also a blader like you all."
Haruka absorbed his words before nodding. "Yeah, I guess that's true."
She fell silent again, her thoughts drifting toward something else-something that had been lingering in the back of her mind ever since the final battle. She hesitated, then asked, "Dad, when do you think.... Pegasis will return?"
Ryu looked at her in mild surprise. "Huh?"
Haruka sighed. "I understand in the final battle, Pegasis used up all its strength... but when do you think it'll be back?"
Ryu studied her expression before responding, "That sounds like a question Gingka would ask."
"Well yeah... that's why I'm asking," Haruka admitted. "Ever since Pegasis disappeared, Gingka hasn't been his usual self. He tries to act cheerful, like everything's fine, but I know he really wishes for Pegasis to return."
Ryu stopped walking, his gaze drifting up toward the sky, "There's no way to know when Pegasis will return, after all the final battle was a tough one. But one thing's for sure-it will return one way or another. We can only Hope for the better."
Haruka turned to him, listening intently.
"After all, we can't expect Gingka to sit around all day long," Ryu added with a chuckle.
Haruka smiled, shaking her head. "You're not wrong there. But right now..."
"Speaking of which, where is Gingka? I haven't seen him around," Ryu asked curiously.
Haruka thought for a moment before shrugging. "Well, he's probably at B-Pit... or at a hamburger shop stuffing his face, as usual."
Ryu chuckled at that. "Sounds about right."
The conversation drifted into silence, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Instead, there was a sense of understanding between them, a quiet reassurance that things would eventually fall into place.....
Later, the cool breeze rustled through the city streets, the sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting an amber glow over the city.
Haruka made her way through the city. She had spent time talking with her father- her thoughts clearer than before, she made her way toward B-Pit.
As she walked along the bustling streets, something caught her attention.
Colorful lanterns were being strung across buildings, while shop owners decorated their storefronts with bright banners. Strings of lights twisted around lamp posts, illuminating the growing dusk with a warm radiance.
Haruka slowed her pace, observing the decorations with curiosity. She turned down another street, only to find the same festive atmosphere. More lights, more banners, and even families adorning their homes with bright paper streamers. It looked like preparation for something special.
Stopping near a small plaza where a group of children were helping their parents tie ribbons to a railing. "Wonder what's going on...?" She muttered under her breath, observing.
"You don't know about the festival?"
The voice came from behind, firm yet casual. Haruka turned, her red hair swaying with the motion, to find Kyoya standing a few steps away, his hands stuffed in his pockets. He had his usual cool, uninterested expression, though his blue eyes flickered briefly to the decorations around them.
"Festival?" she repeated, tilting her head slightly in intrigue.
Kyoya gave a short nod, glancing around. "Yeah. Didn't really care to learn the details, but everyone's preparing for it. Happens tomorrow."
Haruka's eyes widened slightly. A festival? She had never experienced a festival before. "Huh... I see," she murmured, letting the thought settle. Watching the people around her, she couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement.
Then, a thought struck her. "Hey, maybe Madoka knows more about it. We should head over to B-Pit and ask her." She turned to Kyoya with an expectant look, only to see him already shaking his head.
"No thanks. Not interested." His response was immediate, his tone flat.
"Huh?" Haruka blinked, a bit surprised. "Come on. What's the harm in checking it out? We can find out more about it."
Kyoya sighed, barely glancing at her. "I've got better things to do than stand around listening to festival talk."
With that, he turned on his heel and started walking away, his usual nonchalant stride unbothered by her presence.
Haruka watched him go, a little surprised at how quickly he dismissed the idea. She knew he wasn't exactly the social type, but his complete disinterest was a little surprising as she watched him go in wonder.
As the chatter of excited townspeople pulled her attention back to her surroundings, she took one last glance at the twinkling lights before deciding to head towards B-Pit on her own. If there was a festival happening, she wanted to know more about it. ....
Outside the building of B-Pit, the city's festive energy was unmistakable. Simple yet charming decorations adorned the storefront, with strings of small paper lanterns and banners swaying lightly in the evening breeze.
Haruka took a moment to glance around before pushing open the door. Descending the familiar spiral staircase, she entered the cozy basement lobby. As expected, the usual gang was gathered-Madoka, Kenta, Benkei, and Gingka-engaged in their usual chatter.
"Hey," Haruka greeted as she stepped down.
Madoka turned toward her with a welcoming smile. "Haruka!"
"Great, you're here!" Kenta chimed in.
"Where have you been?" Gingka asked, looking up from where he was standing.
Haruka raised an eyebrow at him before stepping closer. Without warning, she flicked a finger against his forehead, making him wince.
"Where have I been? More like, where have you been?" She countered. "You know Dad was asking about you."
Gingka blinked, rubbing his head sheepishly. "He was?"
"You've definitely been off the grid lately," Haruka pointed out, crossing her arms.
"Uh... no, nothing like that," Gingka waved it off hastily. Clearly looking for a way to shift the conversation, he turned to the others. "Uh, anyway! Madoka and the others were just talking about the festival happening tomorrow."
"Festival?" Haruka repeated, then nodded as she recalled. "Oh yeah, I noticed it on my way here. Seeing everyone putting up decorations everywhere."
"Oh, so you do know about it, Haruka?" Kenta asked curiously.
"Not really," she admitted. "I only just found out when I was heading over. Kyoya mentioned it when I ran into him. He said something about it being an annual thing, but he didn't know much else."
"Kyoya did?" Madoka murmured, her curiosity piqued.
"You don't know what happens at a festival?" Benkei asked, sounding almost shocked.
Madoka considered this before adding, "Well, if you think about it, Koma Village probably didn't have festivals like this."
Haruka gave a slight nod. "Yeah, I mean, there were smaller celebrations now and then, but nothing on the scale of a full-fledged festival. Not like the kind you see in the city." She glanced over at Gingka. "Right?"
Gingka, who had been unusually quiet, blinked. "Huh? Oh, uh, yeah." He scratched the back of his head. "It was different in Koma Village."
"I can imagine," Kenta said, smiling. "It was pretty quiet and nice when we visited."
Haruka studied Gingka for a brief moment. Something about his reaction made her wonder for a moment before turning back to Madoka. "So, what exactly happens in this festival?"
Madoka brightened up, excited to explain. "Oh, there's a lot to go through! First off, the streets are lined and filled with decorations, accessories, and everything you'd expect at a festival. The city is usually booming with excitement. People dress up in festival attire, families head out together-it's a fun, lively event that lasts from morning all the way into the evening."
Benkei, unable to hold back his enthusiasm, jumped in. "Yeah! There's so much good food-steak, hamburgers and all kinds of delicious stuff! Just thinking about it makes me hungry."
Haruka chuckled at Benkei's excitement. "Sounds interesting," she mused.
Benkei smirked. "And let's not forget the Beyblade expedition they hold at the festival!"
Haruka blinked in surprise. "A Beyblade expedition?"
"What's that?" Gingka asked, his tone not as enthusiastic as usual.
"Yeah!" Kenta said eagerly. "It's not an official competition or anything, but lots of bladers from around the city come to test their skills against each other. It's super competitive and exciting!"
Haruka crossed her arms, deep in thought. "That does sound interesting."
"It really is!" Kenta nodded with a grin.
Madoka, however, sighed, shaking her head. "But they're probably not holding it this time. After the whole Battle Bladers event, the WBBA is still recovering. I doubt they'd organize an exhibition match so soon."
"Bummer..." Benkei grumbled.
"Yeah, but it makes sense," Kenta admitted. "That final battle was intense."
Gingka, who had been unusually quiet during the conversation, remained lost in thought. The mention of Battle Bladers had triggered memories-his final clash with Ryuga, the overwhelming power of L-Drago, and the ultimate disappearance of Pegasis. A shadow passed over his face as he thought about his partner, but he quickly masked it.
Kenta's energetic voice suddenly broke through the silence. "But even without the Beyblade tournament, the rest of the festival is still going to be awesome!"
"Yeah!" Benkei cheered. "It's gonna be great!"
Gingka finally snapped out of his reverie and gave a small smile. "Yeah... the festival sounds fun. We should all go together."
Haruka's expression softened as she nodded. "Sounds good."
"Yeah, but the best part comes after sunset!" Kenta added excitedly.
"After sunset?" Gingka asked, now paying closer attention.
"What happens then?" Haruka asked curiously.
Madoka smiled as she continued, "Once the day's festivities start winding down, everyone gathers at the hillside near the city for an incredible fireworks display. The whole sky lights up with colors-it's a really beautiful sight."
"And it doesn't end there!" Kenta chimed in. "At the very end of the festival, there's a lantern release!"
"Lanterns?" Haruka tilted her head slightly.
"Yeah," Madoka explained, "everyone releases glowing lanterns into the sky. Some people do it to make wishes, others do it as a tradition to honor their loved ones, and some just do it to be part of the moment. It's one of the most beautiful parts of the festival."
Haruka's eyes widened slightly, taking in the thought of it, feeling a tinge of excitement already. "That sounds... amazing! I definitely want to see that!"
"B-B-Bull! I can't wait for tomorrow!" Benkei shouted, full of energy.
"Mhm! It's going to be great! Right, Gingka?" Kenta turned to him with an eager grin.
Gingka took a moment before he responded. "Oh-yeah. It'll be interesting to see."
Haruka glanced at him in wonder. The anticipation for the festival was in the air, and tomorrow promised to be an exciting day....
The morning sun cast a warm glow over the city as the festival began in full swing. Streets bustled with energy-colorful banners hung high, vendors lined up along the roads, and people dressed in vibrant yukatas and festival attire eagerly made their way to enjoy the celebrations.
At B-Pit, excitement was also brewing.
"Alright, it's finally time!" Kenta cheered, practically bouncing in place.
"Ba-ba-ba-bull! Let's go already!" Benkei added, pumping his fists.
Haruka stood nearby, arms crossed but a small smile on her lips. "It'll be interesting to see how everything goes," she remarked.
"Yeah," Gingka agreed with a grin.
Just as they were about to head out, the door swung open with a loud BANG.
"Hey! Gingky! Kenchi! Benben!"
Everyone turned to see Yu bouncing inside, his signature mischievous grin plastered across his face.
"Yu!" Kenta exclaimed.
"Hey guys! What's up?" Yu greeted, his excitement practically radiating off him.
"We're all set to head out for the festival," Gingka said, smiling. "How about you?"
"I'm great! Especially excited for the festival!" Yu beamed, bouncing on the balls of his feet.
Haruka tilted her head. "Hey, where's Tsubasa? Isn't he with you?"
"Oh, Tsubasa?" Yu blinked. "He had some WBBA work to take care of. Super secret agent stuff, you know?"
"At WBBA?" Kenta questioned.
Haruka grinned. "Guess being a secret agent comes with a packed schedule."
"Yeah, yeah, enough about that! Let's go already!" Yu whined, practically bouncing with impatience.
"Well, we're waiting for Madoka," Haruka explained, glancing toward the spiral staircase leading upstairs.
Gingka cupped his hand over his mouth and called out, "Hey, Madoka! If you don't hurry, we'll be late!"
As they waited, Yu looked around and suddenly asked, "Hey, isn't Kyoyo here?"
Haruka raised a brow at the nickname switch-first 'Yoyo,' and now 'Kyoyo'? If Kyoya were actually here, he definitely wouldn't be amused. "Doesn't seem like he's coming," she replied.
"Huh? Why not?" Yu pouted.
Kenta explained. "Well... you know how Kyoya is. Big crowds and loud festivals? Not really his thing."
"But he might show up later," Benkei added optimistically. "Kyoya acts tough, but he comes around when it matters!"
Yu huffed. "Tch, well, even if he doesn't, we're still gonna have a blast!"
"Bull! I just wanna get to it!" Benkei groaned.
"No kidding," Kenta agreed with a chuckle.
Everyone was buzzing with anticipation when footsteps echoed from the staircase.
Haruka, who had been glancing over her shoulder, blinked in surprise. "Wow... Madoka. Is that you?"
As the others turned to look, their eyes widened in surprise. Standing at the top of the stairs was Madoka, dressed in a beautiful pink kimono, adorned with delicate cherry blossom patterns. The design was sleek, elegant, and completely different from her usual practical attire. Her soft brown hair was styled slightly different, adding to her refined yet cute appearance.
A moment of stunned silence followed.
"Whoa," Kenta breathed.
"You looks beautiful, Madoka!" Haruka grinned, genuinely admiring the outfit.
"Yeah! Super cute!" Kenta agreed enthusiastically.
Benkei confused, eyes squinting asked. "Wait... why the sudden change?"
Madoka smiled, "Oh, come on, Benkei! It's a festival! You're supposed to dress for the occasion and get into the festive mood!"
Haruka nodded. "She's got a point. It definitely fits the atmosphere."
Madoka turned toward Gingka, her smile softening. "So? What do you think?"
Gingka, who had been staring the whole time, blinked. His usual carefree confidence vanished, replaced by an awkward, flustered expression. "Uh... huh?" He stammered. "Oh! Uh... it... it looks really good on you. I guess." He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, avoiding direct eye contact.
Haruka sighed. Seriously? That was the best he could come up with?
Madoka giggled, a faint blush dusting her cheeks.
"Well, now that we're all set," Kenta chimed in, "Let's get going!"
"Yeah!" The group cheered, stepping out onto the festival-lit streets, excitement filling the air as they set off to enjoy the day.....
Everyone headed out toward the festival grounds, excitement bubbled among the group. Reaching the heart of the city, Gingka, Haruka, Madoka, Kenta, Yu, and Benkei stopped for a moment, eyes wide with awe as they took in the scene around them.
The decorations glittered under the lights, the aroma of sweet and savory festival treats filled the air, and every corner offered something new-games, performances, and joy in abundance.
For Gingka and Haruka, this was a world they hadn't experienced before.
Haruka's eyes sparkled as she stopped to admire a display of hand-painted wind chimes, their delicate sound tinkling in the breeze. Gingka smiled softly beside her, captivated by the moment-but his smile didn't quite reach his eyes.
As they walked, their laughter mingled with the sounds of the festival-but Madoka, ever attentive, couldn't shake the feeling that Gingka's usual fiery cheer was missing. He smiled, he laughed, but there was a heaviness behind his eyes.
Haruka had already sensed it. Though she said nothing, her eyes often flicked to Gingka with quiet concern. She had hoped today's joy would help soothe his heart....
Soon enough, the group found themselves gathered near another festive zone-a vibrant open area lit with paper lanterns. A lively game was underway: the "Two-Person Challenge Rally."
As the group stood watching, a sense of anticipation filled the air-except for one.
Haruka, smiling faintly, suddenly noticed someone missing. She glanced around the area-until it stopped on Gingka, standing several paces behind them, staring quietly into the glass window of a souvenir shop.
She approached gently. "Gingka?"
He blinked and turned to her, startled slightly out of thought. "Hm?"
"Where are you lost at?" she asked, a small smile tugging at her lips. "We're taking part in a challenge. Come on," she gestured behind her, to the others assembling.
"Uh..." Gingka glanced over to the group, all chatting and choosing teams. "Yeah, yeah..." he mumbled, rubbing the back of his head. "I'm coming."
She watched as he walked past her, eyes lingering on him for a moment before turning to the glass he had been staring into. Her expression softened as she followed him back.
Everyone was beginning to sort out teams.
With a bit of impish energy, Haruka grabbed Gingka's arm lightly, nudging him toward Madoka. "Alright! Gingka, you'll be teaming up with Madoka."
Gingka blinked, confused. "Huh-what?"
Madoka gave a small surprised laugh, cheeks slightly pink, but nodded. "Okay."
Gingka stood there, still processing how he got paired off.
As Yu and Kenta stood excitedly off to the side, bouncing in place, Haruka looked around, suddenly realizing she was the only one without a partner. She tilted her head slightly.
"Hey, where'd Benkei go?" Kenta asked, looking around.
"Oh! There is Ben Ben," Yu pointed with a laugh. They all turned to spot Benkei across the way-face deep in a skewer of grilled squid, arms full of food bags, humming happily to himself.
"That's Benkei for you," Kenta said with a sweatdrop.
Haruka shrugged with a wry smile. "I guess I'll sit this one-"
"Hey, look! It's Yo-Yo!" Yu suddenly called out, cutting her off.
Haruka blinked, then followed his gaze-Kyoya, hands in his pockets, was strolling down the opposite side of the street.
Yu grinned widely and waved his arm, "Hey YOYO!!"
Kyoya froze mid-step, one eye twitching. He hadn't opened his eyes, but his clenched jaw spoke volumes. A few passing festivalgoers looked over with amused curiosity.
"Yu," Haruka warned gently, stepping forward. "Maybe don't yell that name..."
"Huh? Why not?" Yu tilted his head innocently.
Before she could answer, Kyoya was suddenly right in front of them. His eyes were open now-and narrowed. "I told you," Kyoya said in a low growl, "Don't call me yoyo."
"Oh, okay then," Yu said with a cheeky grin. "How about... Kyoyo? Even better, right?"
Kyoya's expression darkened, "Don't. Call me. That. Either."
"Oh cmon, it's a festival!" Yu argued, grabbing Kyoya's hand and shaking it enthusiastically. "You're supposed to be cheerful!"
Kyoya's sweatdropped, snatching his hand back. "Stop that!"
Standing off to the side, Kenta leaned over to Haruka and whispered, "This might not end well for Yu..."
"Yep," Haruka agreed flatly.
Kyoya's glare intensified, but before things escalated, Madoka jumped in with a perfectly timed interruption. "Oh! Actually, that's perfect timing!" she said, clasping her hands together.
Everyone turned toward her. "Now that you're here, Kyoya-you can be Haruka's partner!"
Both Haruka and Kyoya froze.
"Huh?" Haruka blinked.
"What?" Kyoya muttered.
"Well, Haruka doesn't have a partner, and the teams need to be even. So it's perfect," Madoka said innocently.
"I didn't come here to play games," Kyoya said sharply, already turning to leave.
Haruka expected it-but something about it still stung.
Yu, of course, made it worse. "Aw, c'mon Yoyo! You're scared of a little festival game?" he teased, "These challenges too much for you?"
Kyoya stopped, eyes narrowing. His fists clenched slightly. (Oh how he was ready to knock this kid out.)
Yu leaned back casually, hands behind his head. "It's fine. We'll figure something out. I mean, if it's too much for you-"
Kyoya glanced over to Haruka. She met his gaze, calm and quiet, maybe even a hint of hope in her eyes. He sighed, "...Fine."
Yu beamed. "Alright! Then we're all set!"....
The late afternoon sun cast golden-orange hues across the festival grounds, as the challenges were to go.
The first challenge was 'The Blindfold Navigation Challenge'. Where one member would guide the other through a short small obstacle course. The participant groups were ready.
Madoka and Gingka stood side by side.
"Do you wanna go at it, Gingka?" Madoka asked.
Gingka gave a half-smile, still not completely himself but willing. "Huh? Uh... sure thing." He took the blindfold and tied it around.
Yu and Kenta, meanwhile, were ready.
Yu grabbed the blindfold like it was a prize. "I got this!"
"Yu, wait-" Kenta tried to speak, but it was too late. Yu had already tied it on, arms out dramatically like a hero.
Haruka and Kyoya were the last to decide.
Haruka held the blindfold thoughtfully, glancing at Kyoya. Of course, she already knew. He wasn't one to take orders-not in a game, not in battle. With a soft smile, she took the initiative. "Alright, I'll take this," she said, slipping the blindfold over her eyes. "So now... you'll have to be my eyes."
Kyoya raised a brow, mildly intrigued but silent. He crossed his arms and watched as she adjusted the fold, then simply stepped behind her-in quiet agreement.
The Challenge Began.
Madoka's voice rang clear. "Alright, to your right!"
Gingka turned and moved.
"Again right."
He continued but faltered slightly, losing track in his mind.
"Left," she said next.
But Gingka kept going right.
"Gingka-left, left!" she repeated, exasperated.
"Huh? Uh... ah, right-I mean, left!" he stammered, turning with a confused grin.
Madoka sighed but smiled anyway.
_
Haruka, meanwhile, took careful steps forward.
"Left," Kyoya said calmly behind her.
She raised her hands in front of her as if feeling her way. Then she extended her right arm. "There,"
"That's your right." Kyoya's voice was dry, but not cold.
"Huh? Oh-uh..." Haruka chuckled sheepishly, adjusting course.
Kyoya watched silently, brow raised, but she corrected herself quickly.
"Left," he called again. She stepped with more confidence now.
"Right." Another step. Smooth this time.
_
Back with Yu and Kenta-it was less smooth and more chaotic energy incarnate.
"Left!" Kenta called.
Yu began moving right.
"Left Yu!" Kenta said.
"I'm going left!" Yu mentioned.
"Not your left, my left!" Kenta shouted.
"How should I know that?!" Yu shot back.
"I'm telling you-so listen!"
"This is hard!" Yu yelled, barreling forward.
"Yu, watch it!"
Thud.
Yu stumbled, catching his foot on a cushion. "OW!" he yelled, hopping like a monkey.
_
Near the front of the course, Gingka was still fumbling as he'd accidentally knocked into a obstacle.
"Uh... this is not working well..." Gingka muttered, sighing.
Madoka didn't waver. "It's okay, Gingka. You're doing great."
"Really?" he asked.
"Yeah. So let's keep at it," she said, patient and supportive.
"Okay," he replied, trying to focus. Her calm steadied him.
_
Haruka suddenly slowed and stood still.
"Uh, Kyoya. I'm waiting-tell me which way?" she asked.
A beat.
"You're done," Kyoya said plainly.
"Huh?" She blinked under the blindfold, slowly lifting it. Her vision adjusted, and sure enough, she was past the final rope, standing just beyond the obstacle course. She looked behind. Gingka was still weaving through, and Yu was... somewhere in the back flailing.
Haruka lit up with childlike delight. "Alright!" she grinned, turning to Kyoya. "We did it!"
Yu groaned as he tore off his blindfold. "Oh man!"
"Well... we tried," Gingka mumbled.
Madoka patted his shoulder. "Don't worry. There's still more to do."
The elderly woman walked up to them, mostly focusing on Haruka and Kyoya. "That was good," she said warmly. "You've shown strong teamwork-immense trust in your partner, and patience in guiding. You did well."
Haruka's eyes lit up with pride. She turned to Kyoya, but he stood as usual-hands in pockets, eyes ahead, silent. Still... her smile lingered. Kyoya looked down briefly, eyes thoughtful. But just for a moment. He shoved the feeling aside....
Next Challenge was Pattern Recognition.
The gang gathered near a board displaying dozens of patterned tiles-floral designs, swirling waves, dragons, stars. "You will have five seconds to observe," The elderly organizer mentioned.
The countdown began. Three... Two... One!
A large cloth lifted to show the patterns. Five seconds. Dozens of tiles. Then the cloth dropped again.
In front of them now were sets of small cards with those same patterns-and many trick variations. They had to recall and pick the ones they saw.
Madoka and Gingka leaned in.
Madoka scanned the rows. "Let's think carefully..."
But Gingka was already pointing. "That one. And... that one!"
Surprisingly, three of his picks were correct.
"Wow! How'd you know, Gingka?" Madoka blinked, impressed.
"I... uh, don't know. Lucky, I guess." He scratched his head, grinning sheepishly.
"Well, that's new. But keep going! We might win!" Madoka said with renewed energy.
Gingka chuckled softly, feeling a little more himself. "Yeah," he said, nodding.
They went on-Madoka analyzing, Gingka instinctively grabbing patterns. A few misses, but mostly wins.
-
Haruka and Kyoya stood focused.
Kyoya had already picked two cards silently, his eye for precision sharp. Haruka, meanwhile, plucked several with quiet confidence-each one a floral design.
Kyoya watched, surprised, as she nailed five cards flawlessly.
"That was fast," he commented.
Haruka smiled with calm cheer. "When it comes to flowers, I don't go wrong."
Kyoya glanced at her again, a spark of interest flickering behind his usual indifferent stare.
-
Yu and Kenta, meanwhile, were already bickering.
"That one!" Yu said, slapping a card down.
Kenta grabbed his wrist. "Yu! Think before you put them!"
"What? I'm doing what you're doing, Kenchi!" Yu said nonchalant.
"I'm not throwing-I'm thinking about it!" Kenta mentioned.
Yu huffed. "This is boring if you think too hard."
The old lady watched from the sidelines again, her smile returning as her eyes landed on Haruka and Kyoya-wordless teamwork, despite contrasting personalities.
Soon, the game concluded.
Haruka and Kyoya came out first again, their pattern accuracy unmatched.
Gingka and Madoka followed close behind, just a single card off.
Haruka looked over, surprised. "How did you even do this, Gingka?"
"I don't know..." He scratched his head again. "Lucky I guess."
"Well, that's some luck," Haruka smiled.
Kyoya watched quietly. And though his face didn't change, something in his eyes did....
Then it was time for the Last challenge, which was a Festival Hunt. The participants were jumping with excitement.
Yu smirked toward Gingka and Kyoya, "I wonder who's gonna win this one... Yoyo or Gingky?"
A faint tick mark popped on Kyoya's head. His eyes twitched. (This kid had a death wish.)
Haruka quickly stepped in, nervously sweatdropping. "Aha-let's get to it!" She cut in, throwing herself between Yu and Kyoya before someone got sent flying.
The groups received their scrolls and maps. The hunt started....
Each group was solving riddles, running between stalls, chasing clues under the glow of festival lights:
Madoka and Gingka, huddled over their riddle slip near a cotton candy booth.
Madoka read the clue. "A stall that flies but never falls...? Hmm..."
Gingka squinted. "Flying flags?" he wondered.
_
Meanwhile, Yu waved the map upside down. "It says 'rings of gold and sugar spun'-must be donuts!"
"No, wait!" Kenta tried to grab the map. "It means the candy ring toss!"
Yu had already bolted. "Too late!"
"Yu!" Kenta called out going after him.
_
With Haruka and Kyoya, they were moving with calculated purpose. Their pace was sharp. Haruka's brows were furrowed in focus, while Kyoya scanned ahead with narrowed eyes.
With each clue, the teams ticked off another stall and got another clue.
Then came the final riddle....
'Where moonlight touches flame, your final crest shall burn in name.'
Standing in a quiet corner, Haruka frowned, repeating the line softly, "Moonlight touches flame..." She trailed off.
Kyoya crossed his arms, thinking as his gaze lingered on the far off hill. "The Firework vendor."
"Huh?" She blinked.
Kyoya clarified, "The fireworks are set off at night. Moonlight. Flame. It fits."
Haruka thought about it. "But the lanterns match too... released in the sky at night. Symbolic flame, right?"
Kyoya closed his eyes. "It's one or the other."
Haruka nodded. "Alright then. Let's split. You check the firework booth. I'll check the lantern release stall. If either of us finds the crest, we head back."
Kyoya gave a slight nod. "Fine."
The two headed off in opposite directions.....
Later, the evening sky appeared in a soft orange glow. The three teams arrived, one after the other back at the challenge stall.
Kyoya and Haruka's team had won.
Kyoya had found the final crest tucked behind the fireworks vendor's stand-a subtle mark on a wooden crate.
Yu collapsed next to Kenta, panting. "I totally had that one..."
"You guessed 'takoyaki grill' twice," Kenta deadpanned.
Gingka and Madoka laughed as they arrived moments later.
"Well, at least we made it to the end," Madoka smiled.
A little further back, the elderly organizer came up to Kyoya with a pleasant grin. "Well done, dear. As the winning team, you may choose something from the prize booth."
Kyoya's gaze shifted to the table. There were various ornaments, small festival masks, painted pins, and accessories. But he only stared flatly. None of it mattered to him, nor did he need it.
He was about to refuse, quietly turning his head, when something caught his eye-a sleek little box, the lid transparent. His expression didn't change, but something sparked in his eyes. He silently picked it up.
Moments later...
Haruka walked up to him. "Didn't you pick anything?" She looked curiously, noticing the box in his hand.
Kyoya shrugged, eyes closed. "There was nothing of use. Nor is this." Without another word, he held the box out to her.
Haruka blinked, surprised. "For... me?"
Kyoya didn't say anything-just waited. For some reason, seeing it... he thought of her.
Haruka took the box gently and opened it. Inside, a delicate flower brooch rested: deep orange petals with soft gold highlights, resembling a blazing bloom. A soft, warm smile came up her face, "Thank you," she said, voice quieter, genuine.
Kyoya gave a small nod, eyes elsewhere.
From a short distance away, Madoka called out, "Hey Haruka! Kyoya! Come on! We're gonna check out more things!"
Haruka turned to him, still smiling. "You know; it would be nice if you hung out for a while more."
Kyoya sighed, looking away. Still... he walked alongside her as they rejoined the group-hands in his pockets, his usual scowl in place, but his steps light.....
Later, the sun had begun its slow descent. Warm lights from lanterns swayed gently overhead as the festival sounds drifted through the air like a comforting lullaby.
The group walked along a path, the atmosphere still bright and lively. Even Kyoya, though keeping his distance like usual, walked within range of the group trying to look disinterested-though anyone could see he was at least somewhat invested now.
Haruka, however, had slipped away quietly a few minutes ago, curious eyes scanning a line of decorative stalls farther down the street. Her absence was momentarily unnoticed, as the others continued onward.
Near the back of the group, Madoka walked quietly beside Gingka. Her eyes, soft with concern, occasionally flicked toward him. Usually, he was the one leading the way with that infectious energy, always calling out the next thing to try. But now... he was much quieter.
Unable to ignore it any longer, Madoka broke the silence. "Gingka? Are you okay?" she asked gently.
Gingka blinked, coming out of his haze. He turned with a smile, rubbing the back of his head like he always did. "Oh, uh-yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry."
But Madoka didn't budge. She looked up at him knowingly, her tone calm but firm. "No. You're lying."
Gingka's smile faltered.
"You're pretending to be happy," she continued. "And you haven't been yourself all day."
He looked down, slightly caught off guard.
"Usually, you're the one dragging everyone around, getting excited over everything. But today, you're hanging back."
Gingka's gaze dropped to the ground. He didn't deny it. Because she was right.
Madoka stepped closer, voice softer now, "It's about Pegasis, isn't it?"
Gingka's shoulders stiffened slightly. But he didn't speak. He didn't have to. His silence said it all.
Madoka pressed on, but with understanding in her voice. "Ever since the final battle... I noticed. The way you look up at the sky sometimes, or pause when you hear beys spinning nearby." She paused. "I can understand how much Pegasis meant to you. It wasn't just your bey... it was your partner."
Gingka finally spoke, voice low. "It just... feels strange now. I've always had Pegasis by my side. From the very beginning. Every battle, every moment... and now it's just... gone." He looked at his hand, then up, eyes distant. "I don't even know when-or if-it'll come back. And without it... I feel like I've lost a part of myself."
Madoka felt her chest tighten, hearing the ache behind his usually bright voice. But she smiled, "You haven't lost anything, Gingka," she said confidently. "Pegasis is still with you. Maybe not in your hand, but here." She pointed to his chest. "A bond doesn't just disappear. And you know Pegasis better than anyone-it'll come back to you. It's just waiting for the right moment."
Gingka looked at her, quietly absorbing her words.
Madoka crossed her arms, putting on a mock serious tone. "Besides, when Pegasis does return, you'll be back in battle in no time... and I'll be stuck fixing it over and over after your insane, reckless battles."
Gingka blinked-then laughed, a small genuine chuckle escaping. "Heh... yeah. I guess that would be a lot of work for you."
"A lot," Madoka emphasized with a teasing glare.
Gingka's laugh softened, but his smile lingered. There was more warmth in his eyes now. "Thanks, Madoka. Talking about it... it really helped."
Madoka smiled softly. "You don't have to carry things alone, Gingka. We're your friends. And I'm always here to listen."
There was a small pause-comfortable, calm-as they walked together beneath the lanterns. The flickering light danced across their faces.
"You know," Gingka said, glancing ahead at the others, "This festival is really amazing. I guess I just wasn't letting myself enjoy it."
"Well, good thing you realize," Madoka smiled, "There's still time left in the night. Things will get even more fun."
As they rejoined the group near the central plaza, the glowing lights above shimmered like stars beginning to bloom across the twilight sky....
Meanwhile, the evening slowly descended over the town. The warm glow of lanterns lit the streets, their lights flickering like fireflies in rhythm with the gentle hum of laughter and footsteps.
Haruka wandered the quieter side of the marketplace, her amber gaze flicking from stall to stall. She had wandered off from the group because something had tugged at her thoughts. Passing a stand decorated with flowing ribbons and hanging ornaments, her eyes were drawn toward an old-style shop. It had a wooden sign and warm lighting inside. Curious, she stepped in.
Inside, the small shop had all kinds of trinkets: beaded accessories, ornamental fans, bracelets, lockets, and even hand-woven charms. Haruka browsed slowly, her gaze sharp and thoughtful, finally settling on a small item.
As she approached the counter and made her purchase, ready to leave, her eyes drifted toward one wall near the exit. There, hanging delicately were bands, pendants, and matching accessory pairs-things people could give to others. Her pace slowed. For a moment, she stood still, thoughtful.
Minutes Later...
The shop door opened, Haruka stepped out quickly, a small bag in hand. She turned, adjusting the bag- a sudden collision knocked her slightly off balance. The bag slipped from her fingers, spilling its contents.
"Uh...Sorry," She rubbed the back of her head, glancing up.
"Haruka?" The person called out.
Haruka blinked, "Hikaru!" she said, a smile forming on her face, "Hey, it's been a while!"
The two girls knelt to pick up the scattered items. Haruka swiftly gathered her things.
Hikaru, meanwhile, looked a little distracted. "Um... yeah," she replied slowly. "I've just had... stuff on my mind."
Haruka gave her a look of quiet understanding, dusting off the last of her things.
"What were you doing?" Hikaru asked, noting the items.
"Just got a few things," Haruka replied vaguely, standing up with a gentle smile. Then her tone brightened. "Well then! Since we've bumped into each other, let's go."
Hikaru blinked. "Go... where?"
Haruka gestured with her hand, voice light but sincere. "You just said you've got things on your mind, right? So let's find somewhere to talk. You'll feel better-and you do want to enjoy the festival, don't you?" She smiled gently. "You'll miss out if you stay stuck in your head."
Hikaru paused, thinking. After a moment, she gave a small nod....
Later, they sat at a quiet hillside by the riverside, away from the bustling festival paths. The river glimmered like sparkling gold as it flowed, reflecting the final colors of evening.
Haruka sat on the hill, carefully working on something in her lap, while Hikaru sat beside her, eyes on the water. The silence lingered a while, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Eventually, Haruka broke it softly. "So, what's been troubling you?"
Hikaru hesitated. Her fingers brushed the face of her Bey-Aquario-resting in her hand. She stared ahead, eyes reflecting the fading sky. "I guess... I'm not sure what I should be doing anymore," she said quietly.
"Not sure?" Haruka echoed, glancing over.
Hikaru nodded slowly. "After my match at Battle Bladers... after facing Ryuga... I've felt uncertain. That battle-it was overwhelming. And ever since then, I've just been stuck. I keep asking myself... if I should even keep battling. Or if I'm even meant to." Her voice was steady, but tinged with doubt. Her hand gripped Aquario tightly, as if grounding herself.
Haruka listened patiently, nodding. "I understand, Hikaru," she said gently. "A match against Ryuga... it wasn't something anyone could take lightly." She paused, gaze turning a little distant. "I faced him too. And I lost."
Her voice was calm, but laced with buried emotion. "I still remember how I felt. I wanted to stop him so badly... I came so close but failed. And because of that, so many others got hurt. I used to wish I'd done more, that maybe if I had been stronger, things would've turned out differently."
She looked at Hikaru with quiet conviction. "But the past can't be undone. What we can do is learn from it... and move forward."
Hikaru stared at the river, silent for a moment. "You're right... but every time I think of that battle, it just makes me feel like I can't do it again. That fear-it hasn't left me." She looked down at Aquario again, "I want to keep going... but I'm scared. And at the same time... I feel like maybe I just need a break. To figure things out. But then I think about the promise I made to my mother. And Living up to it."
Haruka was silent for a moment, then smiled softly. "Hikaru..." she said, her voice warm, "You're not letting anyone down-not even your mom. I'm sure... if she saw you now, she'd understand. She'd be proud that you're listening to yourself. A mother always understands her child's heart." She added with a small chuckle, "Even when we try to hide it."
Hikaru glanced at her, her expression softening.
"If you feel like taking a break is what's best for you right now," Haruka continued, "Then do it. That doesn't mean you're giving up. It just means you're giving yourself space to heal. And when you're ready-you'll return on your own terms."
There was something reassuring in the way Haruka spoke, that was reassuring. Hikaru finally smiled. It was small, but sincere. "Maybe this is what I needed to hear," she said quietly. "Thank you... Haruka."
Haruka gave a satisfied nod, glad to know she helped Hikaru clear her mind.....
Later, the night sky stretched far and clear above, sprinkled with stars as the cool breeze flowed along the quiet streets. Haruka walked slowly along the path, holding a small bag.
The faint sounds of laughter echoed through the air as she finally approached B-Pit. The shop was alive with energy. Inside, everyone was gathered, eyes sparkling at the excitement over the day's festivities.
Haruka's eyes quietly scanned the room until they landed on someone-Kyoya. He stood a little away from the group, leaning casually against the wall, arms crossed, his expression unreadable. But he was there. Present. She was glad to see him still around.
Her thoughts were interrupted as Gingka spotted her and approached. "Hey! Where have you been all this time?" he asked with curiosity, his voice carrying the familiar brightness she hadn't heard in a while.
Haruka blinked, then smiled, "Oh, nothing much. Just checking out a few things here and there. How about you guys?"
Gingka grinned, his energy contagious, "Pretty much the same. It was awesome seeing everything at the festival. It was really fun."
Haruka studied his face for a moment, noting the change. His smile was lighter, more real. There was a joy there that had been missing not too long ago. Relief warmed her chest-maybe the small effort to lift his spirits had paid off after all.
She returned his smile with a softer one, "Yeah. It really was awesome. I really liked the festival games."
Behind them, Kenta, Yu, Madoka, and Benkei were still buzzing with excitement, talking animatedly about the upcoming fireworks.
"Well," Haruka said, raising her voice just enough to catch everyone's attention. "Since we're all ready-let's get going! We don't wanna miss the fireworks now, do we?"
Kenta pumped a fist into the air, "No way!"
"I can't wait!" Yu chimed in, practically bouncing.
"Bu-bu-bull! C'mon!" Benkei added in his usual booming tone.
But just then, Madoka's eyes lit up as if she remembered something. She stepped toward Haruka and gently took her hand. "Hold on," she said, "Come with me for a moment Haruka."
Haruka blinked in confusion, "Huh? Why?"
Madoka just smiled mischievously. "I wanna show you something. C'mon." And without waiting for protest, she began pulling her along.
"Uh... okay...?" Haruka muttered as she followed her friend down the spiral staircase that led to the basement.
Gingka called after them with a puzzled tone, "Uh, Madoka..."
"Just wait!" Madoka called back over her shoulder. "It'll only take a little while!"
The boys looked at one another, puzzled but compliant, waiting as instructed.
_
As they reached the bottom, Haruka glanced around, still puzzled. She placed the small bag she'd been carrying on a nearby table.
"Uh... so what's up, Madoka? Need help with something?"
Madoka disappeared for a moment and returned with a box in her hands. She handed it to Haruka with a warm smile. "Here, I got this for you."
Haruka's brows lifted slightly as she took the box. "For me?... What is it?"
Madoka grinned, "Try it. I'm sure you'll like it."
Haruka opened the box slowly, her eyes widening slightly at what she saw inside.
A little while later...
Upstairs, the boys were still waiting.
Yu groaned, growing impatient, "Oh c'mon, let's go already!"
Gingka looked, turning to call out over his shoulder, "Hey, Madoka! Haruka! We might miss the fireworks if you don't hurry!"
"I wonder what's taking so long..." Kenta mused.
"Who knows," Gingka shrugged.
Just then, light footsteps echoed up the staircase. Madoka appeared first, her smile practically glowing. Behind her came another set of footsteps-more hesitant, quieter.
"So, guys," Madoka said with excitement in her voice, "What do you think?"
Everyone turned-and then fell into stunned silence.
"Woah..." Yu whispered, eyes wide.
Kyoya, who had stood silently to the side, opened his eyes, his expression visibly shifting, staring ahead. He starred wordlessly; the surprise in his gaze clear.
There, standing just beside Madoka, was Haruka.
She wore an elegant orange floral kimono, the fabric delicate and flowing. A light green obi belt was tied neatly around her waist, showing the natural grace in her posture. Her long hair was down, styled neatly with soft volume, a familiar flower brooch adorned at the back.
Haruka stood a little stiffly at first, her hands lightly brushing against the fabric of her kimono. Her cheeks were faintly flushed, and she looked away awkwardly, clearly not used to such attention-or attire so different from her usual.
For a few seconds, no one spoke.
"So?" Madoka prompted again, smiling.
"You look..." Gingka said, a sincere sparkle in his eyes, "Adorable!"
Haruka looked up at him, her flustered expression softening.
"Wow, it's really pretty!" Kenta added.
Benkei puffed out his chest, "It is bu-bu-beautiful!"
Haruka blinked, a bit overwhelmed, but seeing everyone's kind reactions helped ease her embarrassment.
Madoka gently patted her back. "See? I told you everyone would like it. Now you're in the festive spirit."
Haruka gave a small nod, "Yea..."
Then Yu, as blunt as ever, turned to Kyoya with a mischievous grin, "Hey, Yoyo, what do you think?"
All eyes turned toward Kyoya, curious. Haruka glanced at him too, uncertain.
Kyoya held his gaze on her for a moment, unreadable, then calmly said, "It's Nice." Simple. Straight. But something in his tone was genuine.
Haruka blinked, a subtle warmth creeping up her face.
Yu looked on, "That's it?"
Kyoya sighed inwardly, turning away slightly to avoid further pestering.
Before anyone could press further, Gingka spoke up, "Well now that it's all settled, let's get going!"
"Yeah!" The group echoed, full of excitement.
As they all began filing out of the B-Pit, excitement in the air, Haruka walked alongside the others, with Kyoya slightly behind. Stepping into the cool night, he noticed the flower brooch in her hair. His eyes softened for a second. He didn't say anything, but his gaze lingered longer than necessary before he looked away.....
The night sky stretched wide, bathed in a deep twilight hue as the festival night reached its most awaited moment. The group had made their way to the hillside, where crowds had already gathered, eyes lifted to the heavens in anticipation. A gentle breeze rustled through the trees, carrying with it the scent of summer and festivity.
Haruka looked around as everyone in their group began to spread out, taking in the scenic beauty and chattering excitedly. Laughter echoed, the warmth of celebration hanging in the air.
Then, with a loud crack, the first firework shot into the sky, bursting into vibrant color. A collective gasp rippled through the crowd.
Haruka's eyes lit up as she looked up, mouth slightly parted in awe. Gold, red, blue-every explosion was a fleeting masterpiece painted against the stars.
"Beautiful," she whispered to herself.
"First time seeing something like this?"
The deep, composed voice caught her off guard. She blinked and turned to see Kyoya standing beside her, hands in his pockets, eyes fixed calmly on the sky.
Haruka blinked, then smiled softly. "Yeah. I haven't seen it before. It's Amazing."
Kyoya gave a faint hum of agreement, not tearing his gaze away from the sky. The colors reflected faintly in his eyes. Then, after a pause, his voice came again-more casual, but with a subtle shift. "You wore the brooch."
Haruka blinked, a little surprised by the comment. Instinctively, her hand reached up to touch the flower pin clipped near the back of her styled hair. She smiled lightly. "Yeah... it looked nice. I really liked it. And I got a chance to wear it tonight."
He glanced at her, his gaze lingering for a moment, then gave the faintest nod. "It's a good match."
Haruka's smile deepened. Something about the moment-his quiet presence, the brilliance of the fireworks-made her heart feel light.
And yet, something else lingered in her thoughts. Something she hadn't been able to shake. Gathering a little courage, she turned slightly toward him, holding a slim rectangular box tied with a simple ribbon. "Kyoya."
He glanced over.
She held it out with both hands. "This is... for you. Nothing much. Just something I found while looking around today. I thought you might like it."
Kyoya looked at the box, then at her. His expression remained unreadable, but his eyebrows lifted slightly-a subtle flicker of surprise he didn't bother hiding.
After a quiet pause, Haruka continued, her voice softer now. "I guess... you could call it a gift. But also kind of an apology."
"Apology?" Kyoya asked, taken aback slightly. "For what?"
She hesitated, then spoke, "For the battle we were supposed to have at Battle Bladers. I was sure... I even guaranteed it. But... I failed."
Kyoya watched her quietly.
"And because of that," she went on, eyes now drifting to the ground, "you ended up having to face Ryuga. I know how that went. So... a part of me felt like it was my fault."
Her words hung in the air for a moment, gentle yet heavy.
"I just... wanted to make up for that, even if it's small," she said, still holding the case out, uncertain. She wasn't even sure why she was being this open. Maybe it was the night sky, or the fireworks, or simply the way he had quietly stood beside her.
Kyoya's gaze lingered on her, quiet and unreadable. His thoughts swirled beneath the surface-granted, he had wanted a chance to face Gingka in the finals. But he didn't hold any kind of grudge.
And...not at all to Her.
A long silence stretched between them.
Then, finally, Kyoya moved. He reached out and gently took the box from her hand. "You don't have to apologize."
Haruka's eyes widened slightly.
"It's over," he continued. "Doesn't matter now." He paused, then added, voice lower, "But you should try not to do something that reckless again." His voice was neutral, but the subtle edge to his words-the way he phrased it-spoke volumes. Just something in between: concern, masked in his own quiet way.
Haruka blinked, then a smile formed on her face, soft and genuine. The fireworks above lit up her face, the light catching the glint in her eyes. "I'll try," she said lightly. "But I can't promise anything."
Kyoya raised an eyebrow.
"Because... when it comes down to those who I care about, I wouldn't hesitate. I'll always fight. No matter who stands in the way. I'm not the one to back down."
For a fleeting moment, Kyoya's eyes widened faintly. There was something in the way she said it-unshakable, fearless, and bright. It wasn't boastful. It was simply who she was. Before he could say anything else, Haruka turned her head, noticing a few people nearby beginning to light paper lanterns.
"Oh!" she said. "They're starting the lanterns! I almost forgot."
Without another word, she turned and started walking away, her floral kimono moving gently with each step. Kyoya watched her go, holding the small gift box in his hand. His gaze lingered, thoughtful, before he looked up at the sky once more, where the fireworks continued to bloom in silence and light....
The first round of fireworks had already painted the sky in colors, and now - the lantern release was moments away.
Haruka moved through the crowd, as she glanced left and right, eyes scanning past festival goers. She looked around, catching sight of a familiar head of spiky red hair just ahead. Gingka, stood a little apart from the others, his eyes fixed upward toward the stars that were now peeking through the fading smoke of the fireworks.
"Finally found you," She said, stepping up beside him with a small smile, a neatly wrapped box in her hands.
Gingka blinked, turning to her with a confused smile. "Huh?"
"Here." Haruka said, coming up to him and holding out the box.
Gingka took it confused, "What is it?"
Haruka assured him, "Open it and see for yourself."
Curiosity sparked in his eyes as he carefully untied the ribbon and opened the small box. His breath caught.
Inside was a delicate figure - a beautifully carved miniature of Pegasis. It was white, almost ethereal, with outstretched wings that looked like they could take flight any moment.
"Pegasis..." Gingka murmured, eyes shimmering.
Haruka folded her hands behind her back, a small smile playing at her lips. "I saw it today while walking through the stalls and... well, I thought you might like it."
Gingka looked at her, still a bit stunned.
"I can tell, you know," she continued gently, her gaze drifting up to the sky, "How much Pegasis leaving has been weighing on you. You try to hide it - like always- but... I can see right through that." She looked back at him, sincere. "You don't have to pretend you're okay, and especially not with me."
Gingka's eyes softened, looking at the figure.
"But," Haruka added, her voice lifting slightly with energy, "Don't worry. Pegasis may be gone for now, but that doesn't mean it won't come back. Sometimes, these things just take time. You've got to trust that."
She pointed to his chest lightly, right over his heart. "Pegasis has always felt your burning Bey spirit you know. So there just isn't any way it won't return. So this gift... it's a reminder of hope- Hope that Pegasis will return - it has to. How could it not?" she smiled softly.
Gingka stood quietly for a moment, eyes on the figure again, before slowly smiling - not just out of gratitude, but out of something deeper... a sense of comfort that had felt distant lately. The weight he'd been carrying loosened, "Thanks Haruka," he said, smiling at her now, his voice more confident. "You really are the best...."
Haruka nodded, smiling, "You know it. There's just no way I'm going to let you sit around all day long."
The two chuckled, sharing a warm, sibling smile - the kind built from memories, struggles, and unwavering support.
Just then, a familiar voice joined them.
"Well now, that's a smile I haven't seen in a while," Ryu remarked, walking up and placing a hand on Gingka's head.
Gingka nodded as Ryu then held up a softly glowing lantern in his hand. "Alright, you two. It's about time. Any thoughts on what you'd like to do with this?"
Gingka tilted his head, thoughtful. "We can make a wish, huh...?"
Haruka remained silent, her eyes distant as she looked at the flickering light inside the lantern. She'd known what she wanted from the moment she heard about the lantern release.
Ryu turned to her, noticing her thoughtful silence. "Haruka, you have something in mind?"
She hesitated a second before nodding slightly. "I was wondering... maybe we ...could send it out...to Mom."
Both Gingka and Ryu blinked, caught slightly off guard by the unexpected suggestion.
Haruka continued, voice quieter now. "You know... in a way to remember her. And so she knows... we're thinking about her. That she's still with us."
There was a moment of silence between them - not uncomfortable, but full of something genuine and real.
"Let's do it!" Gingka said enthusiastically, a smile forming in agreement.
Ryu looked at his daughter with a gentle expression, eyes reflecting the lantern's warm light. He placed a hand on her head. "It's a wonderful idea."
The three stood together, holding the lantern as the others around them lit their lanterns. The hill came alive with warm hues - dozens of lanterns began to float upward, glowing like fireflies against the vast night sky.
Together, they released their lantern - a soft breath in the wind - sending it skyward in memory of the woman who connected all of their lives so profoundly.
Haruka watched it rise, her eyes shimmering as she brought a hand to her chest, holding the pendant she wore close. A gentle breeze passed, fluttering her hair behind her. The moment was quiet, peaceful... full of warmth.
The lantern joined the others, becoming a tiny, golden ember among stars.
A little far off, standing apart from the crowd, Kyoya had been watching the lanterns too. The brilliant light of the sky reflected in his eyes-but his gaze eventually drifted from the sky to Haruka.
He looked at her. Then his eyes shifted to the small box in his hand-the gift she had given him earlier.
He loosened the ribbon, and opened it. His expression shifted slightly as he saw what was inside-just the faintest flicker of surprise. And then... a small, quiet smile touched his lips. One that few had the chance to see.
As the sky above filled with soft glowing lights, a feeling of peace settled over the hill. It was a night of memories, quiet promises and Hope of better days to come.
