Dabi pov

I. Am. Fucking. Exhausted.

But thank God y/n has a coffee maker and some coffee.

I brewed a full pot around seven in the morning, contemplating whether or not this new life would be a good idea.

Do I want to be in Ember's life? Yes; she's got my bloodline running through her veins and leaving May result in her ending up like me, especially after she's found out that I'm her dad.

However, another part of me says that staying here would only put them in danger: the league will find out, and who knows what they would do?

As I started off into another dimension weighing my options, I suddenly heard a giggle behind me and looked, seeing a flash of white hair disappearing, but a note left on the corner of the kitchen island.

Curious, I lifted the paper up, seeing my coffee down, and read it:

Ecuse me MisTR DaDY

I Am Hun GaRY

eggs Peas

EmBER

I chuckled and set the note down, "Coming up!" and turned to the fridge, opening it and grabbing the eggs and bacon.

I smelt something in the air after I got off the phone, widening my eyes. "Ember?!" I ran out of the room, almost forgetting what time it was.

Ember tried making herself and I breakfast one time.

Pop tarts don't go in the toaster with the foil packaging on it still - I'll let you figure out the rest.

I skidded into the kitchen and stared at the kitchen, expecting a fire or smoke clouding the air.

Nope.

Just Ember standing on a chair two feet from the stovetop, watching Dabi making breakfast.

Wait.

Why the fuck is this man making breakfast?!

"Oh, good. You're awake." Dabi glanced at me before looking at Ember. "Go grab a plate, please."

"Okay!"

I watched Ember reach into the cupboard across of her and grab one of the plates before handing it to him. Dabi thanked her and played some scrambled eggs and bacon before sliding it across the kitchen island to me. "Here you go. Ember, how many eggs do you want?"

"I want five!"

"Well five is a bit much, but how about you and I split the five?"

"Okay Daddy!" Ember's cheerful voice melted my heart as I watched the two. I slowly took my phone out and snapped a picture before grabbing the plate and walking around, grabbing the forks. "I've got the forks-" I sniffed the air, smelling heaven. "Did you make coffee?"

"Yeah, there's still like three-fourths a pot left," Dabi nodded his head over to the coffee pot. "I didn't know if you drink or not."

"I do, I could never figure out how to work it though," I set my plate and the forks at the table before entering the kitchen again, grabbing a mug and pouring myself a glass.

The three of us enjoyed breakfast together before Ember went into her room, "working on a top secret project mission". I grabbed the plates before heading into the kitchen while Dabi went over to the patio window, looking through the blinds before looking back at me.

"So," I cleared throat. "I have some news,"

"What's that?" Dabi looked at me.

"I spoke with the day care center this morning; they said they can add you to the list of authorized people to pick up Ember." I smiled at him.

His face lightened up. "Really?"

"Yes, but-" I bit my lip, knowing this next part would piss him off. "I gave them a different name. And told them you had a skin condition and your skin would blister up when it was in direct sunlight. So you'll have to cover up when you pick her up."

"It's no problem!" Dabi nodded his head quickly. "I can do that!"

"Well don't go thinking you can pull her out of daycare whenever you want!" I teased him. "She's signed out to leave at three, and I'm not paying for full time care when you pull her out by eleven am three days a week!"

"How about noon twice a week?"

"No, Dabi. She stayed until three."

"Fine." Dabi finally agreed as Ember came back out holding a piece of paper to her chest.

"Mommy. Daddy. Here please." She pointed to her toes.

We glanced at each other before walking over. I am mentally preparing what Ember has waiting for us - I don't know what Dabi's waiting for.

When we were close enough to her, Ember smiled wide and held her picture out to us. "Ta Da!"

She drew the three of us as stick figures in front of a red house and a tree to the right of us. She had Dabi and my hand holding each of hers, and she gave a Dabi purple cheeks. And I think a ... dog?

"I don't know how to draw a cat, but here you go!" Sir smiled proudly.

"Wow, that's amazing, Ember!" Dabi smiled wide, taking the photo and looking at it closely.

I looked at it too, not realizing I was over his shoulder and standing a bit too close for comfort. I blushed and backed away before suggesting, "How about we put it on the fridge?"

"Really?!" Ember smiled wide.

I nodded at her and watched her snatch it from Dabi's hand before running to the fridge, slapping it on there and taking a magnet and putting it on the top middle of the paper. "Now our family's complete! Except we need a cat..." she rubbed her chin.

"Family?" I turned to Dabi when he muttered it, seeing a strange look in his eyes.

I reached forward and gave him a reassuring squeeze to his hand. "One day at a time." I nodded to him.

"One day." Dabi nodded back.
