Chapter Seven
01:21, 9 February 2025Dabi pov
I locked my apartment and tossed my keys onto the kitchen island. I shrugged my jacket off and hung it up on the hanger before looking at Toga and asking, "What?"
"What have you been doing the last few months?" And asked, sitting on my couch and watching me.
"Out."
"Dabi-"
"I've been out, Toga. What do you want?"
Toga had that devilish grin on her face as she got up and flipped over to me, her hands on my chest. "I've been lonely..." she pouted.
"Not tonight." I moved her hands off before heading down the hallway.
"Dabi, you have not been acting normal since we terrorized the west side of town!" Toga started raising her voice at me. "Going into that toy store, gone all day, it's like you-"
Her eyes widened as she froze, staring at me.
"You have a kid..."
I shot a warning blast at her, seeing it dodge her head and hit the wall. "Dabi-"
"Toga, I'm begging you," I stared at her intently. "Don't look into it."
"Shigaraki's gonna be pissed-"
"He won't if he doesn't find out."
Suddenly tears began falling down her cheeks. "How long?"
"What?"
"How long have you known you've had a kid!" Toga shouted.
"I don't need to tell you anything." I narrowed my eyes at her before grabbing the collar of her shirt. "And you aren't going to say shit to anyone. If I find out you do, you're dead."
I released her shirt before walking away, pressing my fingers into my forehead. "I bet you're sleeping with that bitch, too." I heard Toga's snarky comment.
Suddenly a rage brewed inside me as I grabbed a vase and chucked it at her, seeing her dodge it and the vase crashing into the wall. "I fucking knew it!" She screamed at me, talking her knife out.
"You don't know shit, and that is going to stay that way!" I felt my lip twitched before blasting her with my flames. She dodged it, but it caused her to launch herself into my wall, completely breaking into it.
She didn't move for a second.
Good. Dammit. FUCK!
I hurried out the door, grabbing my jacket shopping the way.
Y/N. Ember.
I woke up to a pounding on my door. I groaned and slid out of bed, hurrying to the door when the pounding continued after a brief pause. I yanked it open and Dabi charged in, grabbing my shoulders gently. "Are you okay?" He asked frantically, looking over my body.
"Dabi what the hell-" I turned red when he lifted my shirt some, swatting his hands away. "Come inside for crying out loud. What's going on?"
I closed and locked the door after him, but he suddenly hurried down the hallway. "Dabi!" I hissed, reaching after him.
I saw him standing in Ember's doorway, a wave of relief washed over him as she was sleeping peacefully in her bed.
I grabbed his hand gently, leading him back down the hallway into the living room. I seated him at the kitchen table, seeing distress all over his face. I cupped his cheek with my hand and turned his face to look at me. "Dabi, what's going on?" I asked gently.
Suddenly his head dropped again. "Y/N... they found out."
"Who's they-" I tried asking before my words froze.
The League.
"Dabi, what the fuck-" I hissed at him. "What am I supposed to do now?"
"I-I don't know.." he muttered in defeat.
I sat down next to him, my fingers to my mouth and elbow on the table. "Do they know what Ember looks like?"
"No."
"Do they know where I live?"
"No."
"Do they know anything besides the fact that you have a kid?"
"They just found out I have a kid; they don't know anything else."
"Then..." I sighed, leaning back into my seat. "We're gonna be fine."
Dabi glared at me. "You two are in danger! There's no fine!"
"They don't know what we look like," I pointed out, suddenly looking away as I added, "And they can't run a background check and figure out where we live through your name."
"Why's that?"
"Because you never signed the birth certificate when Ember was born."
Dabi didn't make a noise, but I could feel a sense of relief washing over him. It was quiet for the next few moments before Dabi spoke up. "I think I should stay here for the time being. Until everything settles down."
I didn't respond back for a minute. "What do we tell Ember?" I bit my lip after asking.
"We tell her the truth," Dabi shrugged. "We tell her I'm her dad and-"
"And what, Dabi? Have her along you where you were the first three years?" I shout back at him.
"Well your friend ruined that surprise already, we might as well tell her." Dabi pointed out.
"Okay, so say we do: what about the league?"
"She doesn't need to know that."
"Okay then what do we say?"
"We tell her I'm her dad, and I was on a mission but I'm back now-"
"You're my Daddy?" Both of us froze before turning and looking at the hallway, seeing Ember standing there.
I decided to speak first. "Yes, Ember. Dabi here is your-"
Dabi held his hand out in front of himself, palm up, and a blue ball of fire ignited just inches above, reflecting off of both his and Ember's eyes. Ember watched intently before holding her hand out just like his, and an orange flame ignited as well.
I choked on my own breath watching the two. Please don't burn the apartment down.
Ember's lip began to quiver as her eyes got watery. She shook her hand, running to Dabi before jumping into his arms, hugging him tightly. She cried into his shoulder, "Daddy!"
Dabi was frozen as his flame went out too. He then wrapped his own seems around her small frame, lowering his head into her as well.
"Hi, sweetie.." he choked out.
That night, Ember fell asleep in Dabi's arms before he brought her to her room, and I got the couch situated for him, though he insisted he wouldn't be sleeping. I crawled into my own bed, having trouble sleeping myself.
Dabi's been doing good so far, but with the League discovering he had a kid would they use Ember and I against him? Would Dabi be able to protect us? Worse of all - will Ember get hurt?
