Chapter 3
09:16, 2 January 2023Lex tried to make sense of it. All of it, but he hadn't imagined the both of you basically teleporting from one location to the next.
"An alien.."
You looked strong, unmoving. There was very little Lex could gauge from your face right now. Which was strange because he could usually read someone from a mile away.
"I was sent here when my home exploded. My father placed me in a ship and sent me away to keep me safe. The meteor shower that took Leo's parents, the one that hurt you when you were a child, it was my fault. All the meteor freaks, it's all my fault."
There's resentment in your voice, and Lex has yet to move.
Then it dawns on him.
All the secrets that Clark hid. The times where he'd showed up at just the right time and saved the day. Saved his life. Strange symbols, markings, sounds.
"Please say something Lex." You sound so desperate.
"Are you saying that day on the bridge.."
"I saved you. That was the first time I realized that I was different. Before then I knew I was powerful. I could move fast, but I'd never gotten hit by a car like that. I was confused and scared, and so were my parents."
Now he knows exactly why Jonathan has always had it in for him. He didn't hate Lex specifically. He was just worried that someone would exploit Clark's abilities. Well yours it seems.
"Before this accident, did I know about you, did you tell me?"
He didn't get why you were telling him now. Clark made a habit of keeping it all a secret. It's possible that only your parents know.
"A few months ago I did. You were attacked and there was kryptonite. I was so close and I couldn't do anything. I kept thinking that I would lose you all because I was afraid to trust you. Since that day I've told you everything. Anything. You were in this accident because of me. Morgan Edge threatened me and you went to confront him. You were protecting my secret and it almost cost you your life."
He could see the tears begin to build. Lex wasn't sure what all this meant. If it was even real, but he'd seen you run faster than any human should be able to. With all the crazy things happening in Smallville, aliens were possibly the most believable explanation. Lex moved forward, and the closer he got to you, the more he could make out the defensive way you reacted. You hugged yourself. The second you anticipated what he was about to do, you spoke.
"Lex I-"
He hugged you, tightly, comfortingly.
For the first few seconds there was no reaction. You were frozen. Because you'd fully prepared for some adverse reaction. Him running away, screaming. Telling the world you were a freak.
A monster.
"Thank you, (Y/N)."
Your lips quivered, and you hugged him back, burying your face into his chest as you cried. The weight of this secret, the pain of almost losing a friend. Constantly having to guard your emotions, abilities, Lex understood. For the first time he understood why this was always such a secret. His friend had been bearing a burden of knowing so much yet unable to tell anyone. Truly connect with anyone. Because deep down, you were different. Regardless of how human you looked.
"Thank you for trusting me."
