bad news

"Give us some good news, doc." Melo popped up from his seat as soon as he saw the doctor enter the waiting room.
The older man with the glasses proceeded to make his way over to us. Lonzo, Denise, and I rose from out chairs to hear what was going on.
"Well, the good news is that your friend, Madison Williams is stable and in fair condition. It took her a while but she's breathing correctly. Your brother, Kyle came out with no wounds on his body. He doesn't even have a single scratch."
I grabbed Melo's arm and looked up him, and for the first time tonight, I smiled.
"I told you it was gone get better." He shrugged his shoulder.
"Yeah.. but it always gets better before it gets worse, right?" The doctor awkwardly laughs.
"I do have some bad news."
"Madison may be breathing correctly now but it's with the help of our machines. While in the fire, she inhaled too much smoke. The smoke settled in her lungs and now.. she may never be able to breathe on her own again."
My hand went over my mouth but I still let out a cry. What? Assisted with your breathing.. for the rest of your life?
"As for Kyle. He may not be hurt on the outside but there is a problem internally. There are some nerves that got mixed up inside his neck. He's in critical condition right now.. We- we have him on life support right now. Im sorry, Maya but if he doesn't respond soon.. he might not make it.
My vision was blurry I couldn't see what was in front of me. The tears were building up in my eyes, ready to fall. My breathing became labored and, my legs began to wobble and soon I fell to the ground on my knees, face in hands.
"Now you ain't have to say all that." Melo's voice rumbles from behind has he cradled me in his arms. I was causing a scene but at that point it didn't matter. To hear that my best friend might not be able to breathe on her own wasn't the best news but what was even worse was that my brother might not live to see tomorrow.
"I'm very sorry sir, but I was just trying to inform you what was going on."
"I don't give a flying fuck. You got my girl crying." He barked.
"Melo, shut up for once." Denise cut in.
"No one was even talking to you Denise. Witcho ugly ass raggedy hair extensions. Where yo daughter at? Exactly you don't even know, bitch." He came for her whole life.
"Zo, do something!" Denise cried out.
"Just go, Denise. I can't even began to understand why you came. You don't even like us. Why are you here?" Runny nose and eyes puffy, I asked Denise a question.
"Because.. uh. Um, I have to get going, I have better things to do." She sashayed out of the room.
None of us bothered stopping her and questioning her weird behavior, we didn't want her here anyway.
My head began to feel light almost too light so I got up from the ground to try to take a seat. I stumbled a bit.
"Whoa you good, shawty?" Melo helped me steady myself.
"Yeah. I just need some water or something." I attempt to laugh it off.
"Okay imma get you some. Zo, stay here with her."
Zo replaced Melo and sat in the hospital chair next to me.
"You don't seem too well, are you sure you good?" Zo was as cautious as they come. He wasn't having it. Maybe after having a child, it allowed him to be more observant. It wasn't helping my case at all.
"Bro I'm fine chill." I shook him off.
10 minutes had passed.
"Where Melo at?" I got up from the chair and on my feet.
"I think you should be sitting down right now." Zo said.
"What if I don't want to sit down?" I was getting annoyed with him aiding me. But the tv static sensation came back to my head.
"It's your turn to chill, Maya. Come sit down."
"No!" I took off running.
"Melo! Where are you?" I kept trying to shake off the weird feeling but I broke out into a cold sweat, the palms of my hands were damp.
I couldn't keep on going. So my body shut down..
and black everything went.-melo
The cafeteria was all the way on the first floor which set me back by a lot. Maya was dehydrated as hell and I had to get something for her to drink.
"LaMelo?" I glanced around to see if someone called my name.
"Melo I know you hear me." A female called my name again. Damn if a bitch don't shut up.
Then I felt a tap on my shoulder so I turned around.
"Uh do I know you?"
This random lady kept on smiling at me acting like she knew me. I ain't have no clue who she was.
Her big curls bounced as she shook her head yes.
"It's Courtney, silly." She laughed and pushed me lightly against my chest.
I ain't find nothing funny. I just scratched my head no, still confused as to who she was.
"Don't you remember? I was at your house like a couple of days ago with my sister, Ally. She's talking to your brother?"
"Oh.. yeah."
"I was about to be hurt if you had forgotten me." She let out a small laugh.
This stuff happened all the time. So many people would claim to know me and some of them would, but the line blurred between the ones who lied and told the truth so I just bunched them all together. I had to cut this short, I had shit to do.
"It was nice seeing you-" I had forgotten her name already. The only name I was focused on remembering was Maya Kuzma.
"Courtney. We should hang sometime." She winked and walked away. She switched hard so I could notice her flat ass. I shook my head, hoes wanna be seen so bad.
Once I had Maya's water I got on the Elevator to head back to the waiting room.
When I stepped outside the elevator the cup of water slipped from my hands and fell to the floor.
Because I saw my girl on the floor of the hospital, passed out.
