Chapter 33
23:44, 1 August 2014"We weren't doing what you think." Cody spoke after what felt like forever of silence and staring. "What do I think and what were you doing?" Dad raised his eyebrows. Cody looked at me and then back to my dad. "Lauren, can you get dressed please? We have a house to visit." "Mhmm." I got up and went into the bathroom.
"Okay, I think he hates me me." Cody said as he watched me get ready. "I think he was just shocked." I shook my head. "I'm not convinced." He picked up his phone. "Aren't you gonna get dressed?" "In a bit." "Can I see you after?" "If Daddy lets you." He smirked at me. "Oh would you quit it?" I rolled my eyes.
"Walk me downstairs?" I held out my hand. "Because you don't know the way." He laughed and got up. We walked downstairs together and went into the kitchen where everyone was stood, talking with each other. The second we entered the room, everyone's attention turned to us. I looked up at Cody, who was already looking at me, and then back to the others.
"Ummm.." I looked around. "Let's go!" Dad finally spoke. I followed him to the front door. "Call me later, okay?" "Mhmm. I'll see you in a few hours." I kissed his lips. "Love you." "I lov-" "Lauren!" Dad interrupted me. "Just go." Cody laughed and held the door open for me. I went out and got into the car with Dad.
"What did he do?" I asked after a few minutes of tension. "Nothing." Dad spoke sharply. "Father," I urged. "I don't mind knowing it but seeing it makes me angry." "Seeing what?" "There's only so much cool you can expect a father to have when it comes to his daughter dating an older guy who is also a celebrity." He kept his sharp tone. "We were just playi-" "Lauren, I'm not discussing it any further." He dismissed.
I sighed and sunk into my chair. "Your mother wants to take you to London when you get back from New York." "Why?" "To see your family." "My family? They're yours too." "Not anymore." "Dad, please don't say that." I looked at him. He looked over at me and then back to the road. "I'm sorry, sweetie." He squeezed my knee.
"Wow!" I gasped as I took a step into the house. It was a lot bigger than Mom's house. The hall had an arch which lead to a big living room, there was a door leading to a basement in there. On the other side of the hall was a kitchen which had an arch, leading to a dining room. In the dining room was a double glass door which slides open.
Outside there was a big pool with a small pool attached. There was a tree at the bottom of the yard and a small children's play area in the corner. Upstairs was six bedrooms. Three of them had bathrooms attached as well as balconies. A main bathroom was up there too.
It took a half hour to look around the whole house. I took another look around and took pictures while Dad spoke to the realtor. I sent the pictures to Cody, Alli and Trey to get their opinions and just to show them.
"Lauren!" Dad shouted me after a while. I came downstairs and stood by his side. "Thank you for showing us around." I thanked. "It's my pleasure." He smiled at me. I smiled back and looked at Dad. "Can you drop me off at Mom's on the way home?" I asked while getting into the car. "Sure." He nodded.
When I got home I was greeted by Lilly. "Hey!" I picked her up and span her in circles. "I missed you." She said and kissed my lips. I smiled and kissed her cheek. "I missed you too." I placed her on the floor and walked further into the house. "Hi, Ang." I greeted as I went out the back door. "Hey." She smiled. "Hey, Mom." I smiled and sat down at the table with them.
"When are we going to London?" I asked. "I wanted to talk to you about that. How did you find out?" "Dad told me. We just got back from a house viewing." "That man." Mom mumbled under her breath. I looked at her confused. "What did he do?" "He wasn't supposed to tell you." "Why not?" I questioned.
"I know you and Rhianna don't get along and I wanted to tell you before you rebelled." "Can Cody come?" I asked which made Angie laugh. "The famous question." She chuckled to herself. "Huh?" I looked at her. "Can Lauren come?" She mocked Cody's voice which made me laugh.
"Can he though?" I turned my attention back to Mom. "I guess he can." She shrugged. "Well then I'll go, I guess." I sat back in the chair and watched Lilly in the pool with her blow up dolphin. "The flight's on Tuesday, we're gonna be there for a week." She said which made me groan.
"What happened between Cody and your dad this morning?" Angie pulled my attention in. "We were playing and Dad came into the room. It must have looked a bit weird from where he was standing. Cody thinks that Dad doesn't like him anymore though." I explained. "He told me that. Your dad came downstairs seeming quite mad." "He told me he's cool with knowing we do things but he seeing it makes him angry." I shrugged.
"Tommy was a bit shocked as to what he found this morning as well." "He didn't find anything." I rolled my eyes. "He said that you were naked in bed?" "Well he might have seen that." I giggled. "But it's cool." I said. "He came in while we were kissing so I guess it might have looked bad." I added.
"Is this why Alli's mad at him?" "She's still mad?" "She won't speak to him." Angie comfirmed. I huffed and looked at Lilly again. "What's going on?" Mom and Angie asked at the same time. "Alli found something out about him and she didn't like it." I stayed vague, not wanting to start up any extra drama.
"Is it the same thing that you and Alli were speaking about last night?" "You heard us?!" "Yes." Mom nodded. "Oh right." I said quietly. "What was it?" Angie asked. "He slept with Madison." I mumbled, Angie raised her eyebrows signalling me to repeat myself clearer. "He slept with Madison." I stared at the ground while speaking.
"What?!" "He sle-" "I don't need you to say it again!" She told me. "I'm sorry?" I wasn't sure what to say but I knew she was mad; I also wasn't sure who she was mad at but I knew she was mad. "Can you please not mention it to him though. He got upset when Alli found out so he'll be even worse with you. Just please?" I begged.
Angie sighed and looked at my mom who also sighed. "Sometimes I think you're too good for that boy." She shook her head in disapproval. "Well I love him and that's that." I dismissed and got up from the chair.
I went to my room and opened my laptop. I checked twitter for a while and then messed around a bit. My phone lit up, catching my attention. I picked it up off the side and unlocked it. I had a message from Cody.
Cody: Why tell my mom? Have I done something else that you're mad at me for?!
I sighed before pressing on the 'call' option and pressed the phone to my ear. "Well?" Cody answered immediately. "Well, first of all, if you don't want people to find things out, you don't do them. And second she was talking about my dad being mad which turned into Alli being mad and I had to tell her." "Why couldn't you just make something up?!" "Because that, Cody, would be lying. I don't do lies and I don't like lies." I said firmly.
"Yeah, well thanks." He scoffed sarcastically. "I didn't put it in her!" "Yeah well I did! I chose to do it! And I fucking enjoyed it! Now leave me alone!" He spat at me and then the line went dead. I sat there and stared into space for a few seconds. Did he seriously just say that? I fucking enjoyed it.
There was a small knock on my door and then it creeked open. "Can you play dollies with me?" Lilly's innocent voice almost whispered. I wiped away the tears that I didn't know where there until now and got up. "Sure, sweetie." I took her hand and we went into her room. Lilly had set up all kinds of things ready for us to play.
"You know, boys are smelly. Girls are better than them." Lilly said as I sat down on the floor. She sat next to me. "I know they are." "And even though I really like Cody, he smells too. So I don't want to let you cry anymore." She knelt up and wiped my wet cheeks. "Because you're too pretty." She whispered with her nose against mine. I smiled and kissed her quickly before picking up a doll.
Later that night, Lilly and I were in my bed watching a DVD when the door opened slightly. "Go away. You smell." Lilly said, I looked over to the door to see Cody stood there. "Actually I showered like ten minutes ago." "You're not funny either." She scoffed. I tried not to laugh at her attitude.
"What did I do to you?" He sat down on the bed. "You made my big sister cry. You're not allowed to do that." "I made her cry?" He asked. His voice was soft and he sounded a little hurt. I bet he enjoyed that too. "Mhm. So we don't want to talk to you anymore. Even Cruella is nicer than you." She said and looked back at the movie.
"Cruella?" Cody chuckled and laid on the bed. "Mhm," She said again, the way I do when I'm annoyed. "Who's Cruella?" "Cruella DeVille! From the dalmations! Do you not know anything?!" Lilly scolded him. Cody laughed a little harder. "Ever so sorry, Miss Miller." "I'm not laughing." She crossed her arms over her chest and furrowed her eyebrows.
"Even though you're mad, you look adorable." Cody squeezed her cheek, Lilly slapped away his hand. "I guess that's something else you learned from your sister." He said as he looked at me. I kept my eyes glued to the screen. "Lauren is busy." Lilly spoke for me. "Talking to Cruella?" "No, Cruella's looking for the pupies! Are you that silly?!" She asked with frustration which only made it more amusing for Cody.
"Why is she looking for them?" "You watched this film lots of times. You know what happens." She wasn't amused by his attitude. I was trying not to crack a smile at the way he was winding her up. "I don't think I do. I must always fall asleep becuase it's so borrrrring." He fake-yawned.
"Hey!" Lilly jumped up and sat on Cody's stomach. "I'm gonna rip your face off!" She warned. Cody laughed and stood up with Lilly hanging from his neck. "It's bed time now, say good night to your sister." "Noooo!" "Come on, I'll even read you a story." He said and set her on her feet on the bed. Lilly came over and hugged me.
"Good night, princess." I kissed her head. "I'll throw him out the window when he's not looking." She whispered to me, Cody heard and laughed again. I watched them walk out of the door. I sighed and turned off the TV before rolling onto my side and closing my eyes.
After a few minutes I felt the bed dip down behind me. The weight moved closer and closer and then my body was pulled back. "I skinned the last puppy." Cody whispered in my ear. A smile appeared on my face but I stayed silent so he'd think I was ignoring him or alseep. "I know you're not sleeping." I still ignored him.
"I shouldn't have said it. I was mad. I didn't realize how harsh it sounded until I'd said it. I also had no idea you were that upset by it or else I would of been round here quicker than you could hang up the phone. I know you're going to ignore me until, like, next year but I'm sorry and I would really really really like it if we could make out." I laughed a little at the last bit of what his confession or apology, whichever you prefer.
"Also, I really really really like you so yeah." "You can't win me over with a bit of teasing and a bed time story." I spoke up. "I better put this book back then." He said and sat up. "Cody," I laughed a little. Cody laid back down with me. "Why would you say such a thing?" "I told you, I was mad. Not at you and I know I shouldn't have taken it out on you but you called me so you were the only person I could take it out on at the time. I just exploded. I'm tired of having the same fight over and over."
"And you think I enjoy it?" "No. Not at all." "It's your own fault, you have to deal with the consequences." I said and pulled the covers. Cody pulled them back which made me pull harder. This fight went on for a few more pulls each until Cody finally gave in.
"Can't say I didn't try." He sighed and rolled away from me. I rolled over to see his back. The room was just lighted enough, by the moonlight, to make out the outlines of things. "Dad doesn't hate you. He was grossed out by what he imagined was going on. You can understand that right?" I asked him.
Cody played my game by ignoring me. "You freaked out like hell when you found Alli home alone with that dude, remember? Imagine if that was your daughter, you'd go mental." "You're still thinking about us having children?" Cody turned to face me. "I said your daughter, not our daughter." I said.
"I chose to hear our daughter." He half-smiled. "You have this crazy way of being able to push me so far away that I don't even want to hear your name and then pulling me back so I never want you to leave." I sighed. Cody pulled my body closer to his. "I know I do. It's called being in love. It's scary as hell but it's also kinda fun." "Kinda fun." I repeated. "Yeah, kinda fun." He comfirmed.
