Chapter 67

( A/n: Part 3 of Breakneck Bog )

The group walked into an area covered with bones.

Fishlegs: Agh...Bones... That's just perfect.

They continued to look around to find any signs of Johann's missing boat, then something caught Onyx and Stormfly's attention.

Onyx: ( to Astrid: ) WATCH OUT!

Onyx pulled Astrid away from being crushed by a fallen anchor.

Astrid: AH! ONYX!

Onyx points up, and the group looks up to see that Johann's ship was stuck on top of a large tree.

Meryl: Holy Scales!

Onyx: Meryl! Language!

Hiccup: Wow! He really got off course.

Fishlegs: Fog Monster-

Onyx: Uh, guys... I don't think that's what put it up there... Look at the claw marks on the sides of the boat, Meryl...

Meryl looked at the claw marks on the side of Johann's boat, and her eyes widened.

Meryl: ( to Hiccup, Astrid, and Fishlegs: ) We need to be extremely careful.

Fishlegs: ( scared ) What? Why?!

Onyx: Right now, it's best that you don't know.

The riders got on their dragons and flew to the boat, but the dragons refused to go on the boat.

Onyx: Guys, we will probably have to go on the boat without the dragons.

Fishlegs: They're afraid. And they're dragons. So we should ask ourselves: What are we doing?-

Meryl jumped off Goofball's back, doing a flip in the air, and lands on the boat on her feet.

Meryl: ( to Fishlegs, honestly: ) Pulling a Hiccup. This boat won't be able to hold them, so jump down here.

Hiccup: Meryl's right, we have to jump down and send the dragons below. Wait... ( To Meryl: ) " Pulling a Hiccup? " What do you mean by that?

Meryl: You, Hiccup Haddock, should already know by what I mean.

Fishlegs: ( muttering, to self: ) Great. That's just perfect.

Hiccup, Onyx, Astrid, and Fishlegs jumped off their dragons and landed on the boat, Fishlegs landed on his back.

Meryl: Toothless, Goofball, ground.

Astrid, Onyx, and Fishlegs gave similar commands, and the five dragons did what they were told and landed on the ground.

Fishlegs: ( to Meatlug from the ship: ) Stay where you can hear Daddy!

Hiccup: Okay, so let's just find this thing amd get out of here. We're looking for a chest with the Berk crest on it.

Suddenly a bone fell from the sky, and hits Onyx on the head, Onyx didn't give a reaction to it.

Fishlegs: Huh?! Care to explain that?

Then a bunch of bones started showering down on them.

Onyx & Astrid: ( at the same time: ) Below deck!

All five riders ran below deck without hesitation, and when they got there, the bones stopped pouring.

Hiccup: ( trying to keep everyone calm: ) Ah, it's just a little...bone-shower. And it passed.

Fishlegs: Bone-shower... So I'm the only one who thinks that weird?

Meryl: A little...

Onyx growled as they began hearing scraping sounds from above the deck.

Fishlegs: ( whispers: ) So is that.

Hiccup: Okay, let's just start looking for the chest and quickly. That really doesn't sound like friendly scraping.

They then split up to look for the chest. Onyx and Meryl stuck together as they searched for the chest, Onyx then jumped when he heard Fishlegs scream.

Meryl: What is it now?

They then heard Hiccup say " Fishlegs, I found it! " Onyx and Meryl heard Hiccup, Astrid, and Fishlegs scream minutes later, and the two Scalewalkers quickly ran to their aid, to find Snotlout and the twins, Tuffnut was holding a skeleton hand.

Tuffnut: ( to Hiccup, Astrid, and Fishlegs: ) Hey, guys! Need a haaaaaaaad?

Onyx then takes the skeleton hand from Tuffnut and smacks Tuff in the back of the head with it, and Ruffnut then takes the skeleton hand from Onyx....and smacks her brother in the back of head with it, knocking him on the ground.

Hiccup: Alright, alright, knock it off, you guys.

Meryl then grabbed Snotlout by the ear with a serious expression.

Meryl: Let me get this straight. This was all you. The bones and the scraping?

Snotlout: Ow! Ow! Yes! Let me go!

Hiccup: Mery...

Meryl then lets go of Snotlout's ear and crossed her arms.

Hiccup: ( to Snotlout: ) Why would you do that? What were you thinking?!

Snotlout: That this would be the perfect payback for sticking me with Trader Johann.

Hiccup: Where is he?

Snotlout: Don't worry about him. He's fine-

They then heard something buzzing, felt it grab the ship and lift the ship off the tree and back on the ground, leaving the dragon riders in shock.

Hiccup: ( whispers: ) What was that?

Meryl: ( whispers, to her boyfriend and friends: ) Shush. Do not make a sound... I'll go check it out...

Meryl slowly went up the stairs, and she quickly ran back to the group when she saw that fog was blocking the path.

Meryl: Fog at mid sun!

Onyx: That means at 12 o'clock in Scalewalker!

Snotlout: Just so you know, the fog, not us.

Hiccup: Okay, I'll admit. Starting to come around on the " Fog Monster " theory.

The fog then filled the entire lower deck, surrounding the teens in darkness, and then, what felt like hours, a loud and powerful roar, making the fog to clear up shortly after the roar was heard.

Hiccup: What was-

Meryl: Something that we shouldn't mess with.

Astrid: Can we please just get out of here?

Hiccup: Wait! The chest! I-It- It's gone! I just had it.

Tuffnut: Oh, too bad, so sad. See you back on Berk!

Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Snotlout, and Fishlegs ran out of the boat, to their dragons. While the rest of the riders walked out of the boat.

Fishlegs: Meatlug! Oh I missed you, Meatlug. Don't worry, Daddy's taking you home.

Hiccup: You guys go. I have to find that chest.

Meryl: Over my dead body. Hiccup, none of us are leaving you here.

Snotlout: Yeah rig-

Meryl growled and gave Snotlout a death glare.

Snotlout: ( raised his hands up ) ( scared ) Please don't hurt me.

Onyx: Hold on, guys, Meryl's right.

Astrid: That chest is from his mom.

Tuffnut: Yeah. Touching story. Gotta go!-

Meryl: Put yourself in his shoes-

Snotlout: Shoe.-

Meryl: ( to Snotlout, sternly: ) Don't interrupt me. ( To the other riders: ) What if it was your mother?

The other teens stopped, and thought about it.

( A few seconds later )

The riders were back on the ship.

Snotlout: ( to Meryl: ) I hate you. ( To Hiccup: ) And this does not mean we're really friends.

Hiccup: Thank you, guys. I mean it. Now let's go find that Fog Monster.

When the riders were about to get on their dragons to take off looking for the Fog Monster, a giant bug-like dragon appeared out of nowhere, and grabbed Meryl, lifting her up like a toddler, Goofball growled at the dragon while everyone else looked at it in complete shock at the size of it.

Onyx: HiveLing!

Astrid: Hive-what?!

Mysterious HiveLing: ( to Meryl, happily: ) Pumpkin, you've came back!!

The Dragon Riders, except Meryl: ( confused, at the same time: ) Pumpkin?!

Meryl: ( confused: ) Huh?
