Hogwarts

04:07, 5 August 2024

I was shaken awake by a girl with puffy hair. "We will arrive soon and you need to change into your robes." She said like I was a foreign speaker and she needed to speak slower and more pronounced.

I moved away from her touch. "I don't have any." I looked at Harry and Ron who were surprisingly still going at those candies. (How many did they order?)

"Don't have any?" She exclaimed, I looked back at her. "What size are you?" She held her chin up.

My brows furrowed. "What?"

She sighed and rolled her eyes. "What size are you? I have a spare just in case this one gets dirty but I suppose I can lend it. It would be dreadful if you arrived without proper attire."

I sat up. "Um.."

She sighed and grabbed my arm. "Come on." She pulled me up. "We'll give the boys time to change while I get you the robes." She pulled me out of the room.

"Sto-." I pulled to get out of her grip. "Stop." She stopped and her eyes widened. "Let go of me." I growled.

She looked at my wrist and let go. "Sorry." She looked back at my face. "Are you alright?" Her face softened, my heart raced.

"I-I'm fine." I rubbed the wrist she grabbed. "Don't grab me suddenly." I gripped my bag closer to me.

She nodded. "Sorry, but we must hurry so you have time to change." I nodded. "Let's go, don't want to be late and without an uniform on your first day." She went back to her chin held high confidence and continued down the walkway. "My names Hermione Granger. What's yours?" She turned her head to me whenever she didn't have to watch out for students.

"Olivia Kimberly." She turned and smiled. "First year?" I asked.

"Yes, I got my letter and I've been preparing ever since." She said proudly then looked at me. "What about you?"

"I am first year too... I got my letter but I thought it was fake but I said screw it, sent the conformation and packed my bags." We made it to a compartment, she pulled down a suitcase and opened it on the bench. I looked at the other students. "Hello."

Hermione looked up. "Oh, guys this is Olivia Kimberly, also a first year. Olivia this is Neville, if you see a toad tell us alright?" I nodded in question. "Then there is Hannah Abbott, Dean Thomas and Lavender Brown." They all smiled a greeting and I nodded one with my normal deadpanned expression. "Let's go so you can change." She went to grab my arm but stopped. "Sorry." She looked at me apologetically.

"It's fine. Just... I'm cautious about people." She nodded and continued forward. "So, what do you know about Hogwarts?"

She beamed. "So much, but I will have to tell you later when we have more time." I nodded. "For now I can tell you that there are 4 houses students are split into. Gryffindor valued bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry."(Not me.)"Its emblematic animal was the lion, and its colors were scarlet and gold." We walked into the back train compartment. "Then there is Ravenclaw valued intelligence, knowledge, curiosity, creativity and wit."(I'm definitely smart.)"Its emblematic animal was the eagle, and its colors were blue and bronze." She handed me the clothes than took a seat on a bench, continuing her knowledge. "Slytherin valued ambition, leadership, self-preservation, cunning and resourcefulness." (Sounds like me in some ways...)I set the clothes down and began to take off my clothes. "Its emblematic animal is the serpent, and its colors are emerald green and silver... Then there is- Oh, my lord!" She gasped, I looked down at my bruises. "Are you alright?"

I glared at her. "I'm fine." I growled and snatched the uniform. "What house is next? You said 4 but only said 3." I put the uniform on.

She calmed her mind down. "Um... The last is Hufflepuff valued hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play."(Not me at all.)"Its emblematic animal was the badger, and yellow and black were its colors. Are you sure you are alright?"

I put on the last of the clothes. "I'm fine. Thank you for the clothes, I'll be sure to return them when I-." (I have no money.) Her eyes softened, I glared. "I will return them when I can and stop looking at me like that." I huffed.

Hermione stood up, and forced a smile. "It's alright. I kind of went overboard and got many uniforms in case one got ruined." She walked out the door. "You can keep it until you get your own."

"Thank you but I will give this back soon."(I have a plan right? Maybe I can talk to the Principal and tell him or her my situation.)"Can you tell me anything about the Principal of Hogwarts?"

She looked at me with a raised brow. "Principal? Do you mean the Headmaster?" I nodded with a shrug, she smiled. "Yea, that would be Albus Dumbledore, known as the most powerful wizard." My eyes widened, Hermione smiled. "Albus Dumbledore is wise, gentle, kind, mysterious in way, knowledgeable, caring and understanding."

I relaxed. "Good. Can you tell me more about Slyth-." The train came to a halt.

"Oh! We're here." Hermione beamed, and turned to me. "Come on." She held her chin high.

(I definitely like her. She is honest and speaks her mind. I don't have to find any hidden truths like everyone else in my life. Maybe she can be my friend for as long as I am here.)

I followed her off the train, bag in my hand so I don't mess up the robes. "First years!" A big man called and my nerves grew.

Hermione pointed. "Oh look... Your friends." We walked over to Harry and Ron. "I've brought Olivia back." They smiled, I nodded and eyed the hulking man.

The man smiled. "I'm Hagrid. Ya don gotta be nerves with me ya hear?" I nodded but didn't listen on the inside but on the outside stood my ground. (Maybe he is fine. Not all big men are mean... He doesn't seem mean....)"Alright then! This way to the boats! Follow me!" Hagrid turned with his lantern and lead us to... boats(?).

And he did, there were boats on the shore of a lake, and across the dark waters was a huge castle that just about brought a full smile to my face.

"Olivia!" Hermione called me, I walked over and boarded a boat with her, Harry, and Ron. "Isn't it magnificent." I nodded.

The boats thankfully moved themselves across the big lake, the castle growing in size and the details finally coming into view. "This is Hogwarts?" I said to myself with a small smile.

Once we got to the other side we left the boats and walked into the castle and up flights of stairs, a woman, stern looking, stood at the top of the last one. "Welcome to Hogwarts. Now, in a few moments you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin." The last name took my attention, the house that most intrigued me. "Now while you are here your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points, any rule breaking and you loose points, at the end of the year, the house with the most points will is awarded the house cup-."

"Trever!" Neville exclaimed and rushed to pick up his toad, right at the stern woman's feet. He stood up and looked at her expression. "Sorry." He walked away with toad in hand.

"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily." She turned and walked away.

(Wow... Everything is real...)

"It's true them." A boy said into the crowd of first years, everyone looked over. "What they are saying on the train. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts." Everyone started to whisper, the boy leaned off the railing. "This is Crabbe and Goyle, and I'm Malfoy." He stepped in front of Harry. "Draco Malfoy." Ron snickered, Draco snapped a glare. "Think my names funny do you? No need to ask you yours. Red hair, and a hand me down robe, you must be a Weasley." He spat.

My jaw clenched. "Pale skin, and platinum blonde hair... You must be part albino." (Why the hell did I just defend Ron?)

Draco glared at me. "And who might you be?"

"No one important." I shrugged my snappy side away, trying to not mess up my first day.

Draco lifted his chin, squinted his eyes. "Hm." He looked back at Harry. "You'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort." He stuck out a hand. "I can help you there."

Harry looked at the hand then back at Draco. "I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself thanks." Draco frowned, the woman walked back in.
