CHAPTER THREE
23:33, 14 November 20191964
Without a doubt, Grace came to Maria's room.
"Hey, Grace." Maria said. Grace quietly shut Maria's door.
"So.." grace said.
"Shit, sorry. Lemme show you something." Maria said. Grace nodded and followed Maria's gaze to the bed. Pictures and papers were scattered across the bed.
"What's all this?" Grace asked. Maria sat down on the bed and motioned for grace to do the same.
"These right here, are pictures of me and kit walker, when I was a kid." Maria handed grace a few old black and white pictures. Graces eyes widened.
"THE kit walker?" She asked. Maria roller her eyes.
"Crazy, right? I still kind of think he is." Maria said. Grace ran her thumb across the pictures, and looked back at maria.
"You believed my story y'know." Grace stated. Maria sighed.
"That's different, grace." Maria replied. Maria picked up a paper, not just any paper. Her fathers asylum papers. Maria took a breath before reading it.
"How is it different?" Grace asked. Grace knew how to get under Maria's skin, and sometimes that would help maria realize something good, or maria would get annoyed. In this case; it was both. Maria stopped scanning the papers.
"Because there's a shit load of evidence against him." Maria said, then went back to reading the papers.
"There is was, and still is a shit load of evidence against me." Grace stated. Maria closed her eyes and opened them again in frustration.
"I'm just statin' the obvious ria." Grace giggled. Maria ignored grace, and began reading faster. She noticed a weird thing in the papers. A certain word that caught her eye, or rather made her worry. Her father, James Johnson wasn't admitted to the asylum for being crazy, and saying he saw little green men. He was admitted for..
"Murder?"
Maria looked at Grace, then back at the papers.
"My father murdered someone?" Maria asked grace even though grace wouldn't know a thing about it.
"I'm sure we can find a newspaper, or an article about this." Grace said. Grace also had said 'we' but she knew that there wasn't a 'we' outside of this asylum. Maria nodded.
"I'll do some research in the morning." Maria said. Maria picked up the papers and photos, and shoved them in a box, and stored the box in her bookshelf.
"Goodnight, grace." Maria said. Grace hugged her before exiting the room. Maria changed into her night attire, climbed in her bed, and went to sleep. -The next morning.
Maria had told sister jude she wasn't feeling well, so she could stay in her room and do research on her father. She didn't find much on her father, but she did find something about a reporter who interviewed him. She had began reading a newspaper she found, talking about
Lana winters, local reporter interviewed mass murderer James Johnson.
She stopped reading for a second, to collect the information that was; her father was a mass murderer. Meaning he killed more than one.
She talked to the horrid man, and she found a great deal of information, along with getting inside of a serial killers mind. The man claimed he was innocent, saying that the little green men had taken him and when he was dropped back down, he was sitting on his bathroom floor, next to every body that he 'supposedly' killed. Evidence says the bodies whereabouts, which were all in the same room, didn't add up. The man couldn't have possibly killed all of them in the same room. Some victims lived across town, some he didn't even know the names of. So, is his story true? Or is he just a smart manipulative man? Issue of 1954.
Maria felt tears run down her face, when she noticed them she wiped them immediately. She knew she had to find Lana winters, and she was going to find Lana winters. But, how would she find Lana winters? She'd be seeing her soon enough though.
"Sister Maria?" Maria heard a voice come through her door. A soft, angelic voice. She immediately recognized the voice.
"Coming, sister Mary Eunice." She said. She hurried and threw the papers into a box once again, and threw it in her bookcase. She opened her door, and there Mary Eunice stood.
"I know your sick and all, but kit walker has requested to see you very much. There's this reporter that's harassing him, so he says." Mary Eunice Said.
"Okay, I'll be right down." Maria replied. She shut the door, and put on her nun attire. She decided to let her hair down, and then she walked out the door. She walked down to the lounge room, where she saw kit sitting on the couch, and a lady in front of him. Sister jude came up next to Maria, and smiled.
"This is lana winters, a reporter." Sister jude said. Lana turned from kit, and stuck her hand out for maria to shake it. Maria hesitated, but did shake her hand.
"I'm sister maria johnson." Maria said. Sister jude rolled her old eyes.
"Just maria johnson." Sister jude said. Sister jude was never fond of Maria, she thought less of her because she's not a 'real nun' yet. And the fact that maria didn't even wanna be one. Lana sat down, and motioned for maria to sit too. Maria could've sat next to Lana, but she sat next to kit.
"Whats the meaning of this?" Maria asked. Lana smiled.
"Well, I'm Lana winters-"
"I know who you are."
Lana cleared her throat.
"Oh, well I'm here to interview bloodyface." Lana resumed her sentence.
"Bloodyface has a name." Maria replied. She knew kit couldn't exactly stick up for himself, but Maria could. And kit greatly appreciated that.
"Yes, sorry. It's just bloodyface will be the headline, nobody cares about his real name." Lana stated.
"Y'know, maybe you should interview him when he's actually convicted of a crime." Maria said. Lanas expression was confused. Maria got in lanas face and whispered.
"They sent him to an asylum so he could go batshit crazy, and then make a confession. Then, he would go to jail. So, I'll let you know when he goes batshit crazy and has a confession. Then, you can interview him."
Lana backed up from Maria's face.
"Alright, then." Lana said, then got up from her spot. Lana walked off, and Maria closely followed behind.
