CHAPTER FOUR

23:33, 14 November 2019

Maria longed the dear information of her father, and she knew that Lana winters would be her best shot.

"Lana!" Maria called after the reporter. Lana heard maria, but still kept walking. Maria wasn't gonna give up that easy, maria May have seemed like a soft type, a person who you could run over, but she was the opposite. Maria May have acted like a soft type too, but when she wanted something, she got it. Maria ran a little faster, and basically forced Lana to stop by grabbing her shoulder in a 'friendly' way.

"Almost lost ya there." Maria said with a big smile plastered across her face. Lana awkwardly laughed along with the mood.

"Anyways, to get straight to the point, I need your help on researching my father. I know you interviewed him a few years back." Maria said. Lana tilted her head to the side.

"Why should I help you? You wasted my time. I tried to interview bloody face, and you ruined my chance at getting a one time interview." Lana replied. Maria scoffed.

"Boo fucking hoo, this is important." Maria grabbed lanas arm, and began walking with her.

"Where do you live? Let's go there and chat." Maria said. Lana really didn't have a choice, maria wasn't leaving without what she wanted.

"Here's my car, get in." Lana replied. She ducked her head beneath the bright yellow paint that the car was colored. Maria did the same.

"Alright, so whos your father?" Lana asked. Maria shifted in the leather seat uncomfortably.

"James Johnson." Maria spoke. Lanas eyes widened, and her mind ran across one thought; "does this girl know about what he's done, or anything about him?"

"Lana? Lana? Are you listening?" Maria asked. Lana snapped out of her own thoughts distracting her, and nodded.

"Sweetie, do you know anything about your father?" Lana asked. Maria stared into her lap, fiddling with her fingers.

"Don't call me sweetie. I'm twenty-three." Maria said, then looked up at lana. Lana nodded, then clicked something beside her. A recorder.

"Okay, while we drive to my apartment let's chat." Lana said. Maria happily nodded, and proceeded to wait for lana to speak.

"How old were you when your father got locked up in prison?" Lana asked. Maria stared at Lana, filling with pure confusion.

"I wasn't aware my father was in prison." Maria replied. Lana made a quick 'oh' and continued.

"According to the papers, he was admitted to an asylum a year before he was sent to prison." Lana said.

"Did you know he was sent to an asylum?"

"Mhm, i was about thirteen when he was sent to an asylum."

Lana nodded.

"Did you ever visit him?" Lana asked. Maria paused, trying to remember if she did or not-

"No."

The car came to a halt, as the bright sun shined through the windows.

"We're here, we can finish this inside." Lana grabbed the recorder from her purse, and clicked it so it stopped. Maria opened the door, and followed Lana up the stairs to the apartment. Lana opened the door, and Maria saw that the apartment wasn't that nice. Not much decoration, or nice furniture.

"Excuse the mess, I didn't know I'd have a guest." Lana said. Maria nodded, then sat down on the couch. Lana did as well.

Click

"What was that?" Maria asked. Lana threw on a fake smile.

"What was what?"

"That click."

"Oh-the clock." Lana pointed to the clock on the wall.

"Anyways, What would you like to know?" Lana asked. Maria pulled down her nun hood thing, her long, black hair rested on her shoulders and back.

"I know nothing about my father, when my father told me about the little green men he saw, I didn't believe him. I was just a child so I didn't think much of it. Few days later, he was admitted to an asylum. My mom never let me visit him, or call him. She said he was ill, and she's my mother so I didn't question it. I never knew he went to prison, or that he apparently murdered people. She never told me any of it, no word was spoken about him. I only came upon this information yesterday night." Maria replied. Lanas eyes widened at the fact that maria never knew about her father. Lana cross her legs, and brushed a piece of hair behind her ear.

"I interviewed your father about ten years ago, when he stated he was an innocent man, framed by the little green men. He was still in the asylum when I interviewed him, he seemed calm considering he was leaving that hell hole that same day." Lana said. Maria's eyes bout popped out of her eye sockets.

"He got out?" Maria asked, with a tiny smiling coming across her innocent face. Lana laughed at her question.

"Sweet girl, no. He was sent to prison." Lana replied. Maria's tiny smile faded from her face, leaving her expression blank and cold.

"The man seemed sad when I interviewed him, i almost felt sad when he was sent to the electric chair a year later." Lana said. Maria quietly gasped, her face gone pale. Maria gulped down the lump sitting in her throat, and attempted talking without tears escaping.

"He's dead?" Maria said, successfully saying a few words without stuttering. Lana nodded.

"Good riddens, am I right?" Lana laughed. Maria felt anger course through her skin, her mind, her entire body filled with it. Was this some sort of punishment from Lana because Maria screwed up her chance at an interview?

"My father was a good man, so no."

"Not good riddens."

Maria put her hood up, and left the apartment without another word. Whilst exiting the apartment, she quickly realized she didn't have a ride back.

"Fuck." She said to herself. She looked up at the street sign, then felt relieved that the walk back wouldn't take long. She walked down the street, night closing in.

Goodbye to another day.
