Chapter 48

3 days later

Niall POV

I can’t believe they’ve set me up on this date. It took me ages to think what to do but I guess it was good for me. I’ve spoken to Perrie a lot about the date but it’s all been fine. I expected it to be weird to talk to her but it wasn’t. It actually felt quite normal. She’s given me advice on what to wear and what to talk about. It feels like I finally may be getting over her because I just feel like friends now.

“Just be yourself,” Perrie says, giving me the stereotypical advice before a date.

“It’ll be great. She’ll really like you,” Zayn says. I don’t even know this girl so at the moment I’m not bothered about how much she’ll like me. We’ll see how the date goes.

We’re going to a restaurant that is quite fancy and is in town. I think it’s an Italian but Perrie and Zayn have booked it all so it’s a bit like a blind date.

“Are you sure this is a good idea? I’ve never met her and we’re going straight to a fancy restaurant. What if we have nothing to talk about and it gets awkward,” I ask, starting to worry about sitting in a restaurant with a girl I’ve never met and being expected to know what to talk about.

“It’ll be fine. Stop worrying,” Perrie says, “As long as you make her comfortable then she’ll be chatty. She may be a bit shy to start with but I’m sure once you get talking she’ll become more outgoing.”

“You’re looking good though mate, I’m sure it’ll go well,” Zayn says, fixing a piece of my hair back into my quiff.

“Ok, ok. Am I meeting her there?” I ask as Zayn and Perrie have hardly told me anything.

“Yeah. Shall I drive you now?” Zayn asks.

“Can’t I drive? I don’t want to look like you’re my guardian or something,” I say, conscious that I’m going to look like a child if I need to call Zayn at the end of the date for a lift home.

“Ok. You sure you know where you’re going?” Zayn asks and I nod.

“And don’t try anything on her Niall. It’s a first date. Drive her back to mine and Jade’s place afterwards and don’t go in,” Perrie advises.

“I wouldn’t on the first date. I’m a gentleman ya know,” I say.

“Mmm I wasn’t a gentleman,” Zayn says and winks at Perrie, instantly making the conversation awkward.

“Don’t wink at me,” Perrie quips jokingly, easing the potentially awkward conversation.

“I’m off,” I say and pick up my coat, heading to the door.

“Good luck!” Perrie calls after me.

“You’ll be great!” Zayn says.

Zayn POV

“So Perrie… I have something to tell you,” I say as we lounge on the sofa.

“And what’s that?” she asks as I play with her hair.

“Well, I didn’t really know how to tell you but um,” I say, getting a bit nervous for her reaction. “We’re-going-on-a-world-tour-next-year,” I say quickly, hoping she wont hear.

“What?” she says, looking up at me.

“A world tour. From February to November in Europe, America, Oceania and Japan,” I say as I sit and wait for a reaction.

“Wow. That’s amazing,” she says, twisting her body to give me a congratulatory kiss.

“Really?” I ask, expecting her to be nervous.

“Yeah. Wow. Touring the world, that’s crazy Zayn. I’m so proud of you,” she says with the biggest smile on her face I’ve ever seen. Why isn’t she annoyed or dreading the time apart. She notices the confused look on my face and says, “You thought I’d react badly?”

“Well, yeah. I thought you’d be a bit more worried. You know, about us spending basically spending most of 10 months apart,” I admit as her expression changes.

“Well it’s not like I’ll never see you. I’ll see you in breaks and I’ll come to as many shows as I can,” she says, “Are you angry that I’m not worried?”

“No. I love you for it. I’m glad that you know we’ll be ok. I was worried that I’d have to convince you and reassure you. And I’m happy that I’ve made you proud,” I say and bring her into a tight hug.

“Do you think Katherine and Niall’s date will be over yet?” she asks me, changing the subject so we no longer had to think about time apart.

“I don’t know. Shall I give Niall a ring?” I ask, getting my phone out.

“Yeh, I’ll call Katherine,” she says and get’s her phone out as well.

“Ni?” I say into the phone.

“Hey bud.”

“Has the date finished yet?” I ask, it is 11 o’clock and he left at about 7.30 so it should be finished by now.

“Yeah, I’ve just dropped her off.”

“Wow. That was a long date. How did it go?”

“It went good. It was a bit awkward to start with. Perrie could’ve given me the heads up that Katherine knew I liked Perrie.”

“Oh god. Did that come up?”

“Yes and I didn’t really know what to say. But then after that it was good. She’s really lovely and we had a lot to talk about,” Niall says and I can kind of hear by the tone of his voice that he is smiling.

“I’m glad. Any second date?” I ask hopefully.

“I think so, yeah. I’m not sure if it’s romantic or not yet but I had a good time. Has Perrie talked to Katherine?”

“She’s speaking to her now. I’ll let you know tomorrow what she says, ok?” I ask Niall.

“Yeah. Speak to you then.”

“Bye,” I say and hang up the phone. Perrie then walks back into the lounge after ending her conversation with Katherine.

“What did Katherine say?” I ask, praying that she likes Niall and thinks it went well.

“Well what did Niall say?” Perrie asks, returning the question before answering.

“He thought it went well. They had a lot to talk about,” as I say this I see a slightly dejected look in Perrie’s eye. “What did Katherine say?”

“Yeah, basically the same.”

Perrie POV

I don’t know why I’m feeling like this. Why am I jealous? Both Niall and Katherine have said they’ve had a good time together yet why can’t I be happy for them? It was Zayn and my idea.

Was I jealous because my best friend was getting close to someone who wasn’t me? I mean, we don’t see each other as often but we’ve never really grown apart. Maybe her getting a boyfriend will make us grow apart. But it’s only a first date. Why am I worrying?

Maybe I’m jealous because it’s Niall. No, that’s not possible. I love Zayn. I can’t possibly be jealous of Katherine. I want this. I want him to fall out of love with me, don’t I?

“You ok?” Zayn asks, noticing that I’m deep in thought.

“Yeah. Let’s just go to bed,” I say and I take his hand to lead him up the stairs.
