Chapter 17

29th January 2012
Zayn POV
Marcus Collins is on stage right now and the girls are going on next. Being here really reminds me of when we were doing the X Factor tour and the crowd was so amazing every night, screaming our names. The girls are doing a 20-minute set and are closing the show. I’m backstage but I can see a bit of the crowd and they have all got Little Mix banners up. Marcus finishes his set and the set is getting prepared for the girls while a VT runs.
“You’re going to be great Perrie,” I say, rubbing her hands together like I used to on the live shows.
“But there are so many people,” she says, as she stands their shaking.
“Baby trust me. They are all here for you girls. They will go wild when you get out there and you’ll forget you were even nervous,” I say, trying to calm her down.
“Promise?” she asks.
“I promise,” I say and she gives me a kiss before she runs on stage.
I watch the whole show in awe. They are such good performers and I wish One Direction could dance like them. We’d never stop dancing if we could. Every now and again Perrie would look over to me and I would give her a thumbs up. As the girls started their last song, Cannonball, the whole arena was waving their phones in the air and the whole arena looked magical. I can’t help but smile as Perrie as she looks so adorable.
As the girls come of stage Perrie runs over to me as I open my arms. I give her a long hug as I congratulate the other girls. “Wow, you guys were amazing,” I tell them.
“You think it went alright?” Jade asks.
“Alright? You were so good. I was looking at the crowd and they loved it, especially Don’t Let Go,” I say as I kiss Perrie on the cheek. “Come on,” I say, “lets get you changed out of this.”
I follow the girls to their changing room and I wait outside while they change.
“Hey mate,” I hear as I wait outside. I turn to see that it is Richard, one of the head people at Modest! Management.
“Hi there,” I say as I shake his hand.
“Didn’t know you’d be here,” he says.
“Yeah. Um, I just wanted to see the show,” I say. I don’t want to mention anything about me and Perrie.
“What are you up to now?” he asks. It’s like an interrogation, Jesus.
“I was thinking of hanging out with the Little Mix girls. We’re quite good friends,” I say.
“Right. Okay mate,” he says.
At that moment Perrie walks out of the changing room and says, “Come on babe. Let’s go,” and she holds onto my arm. “Oh. Hi Richard,” she says as she spots Richard. She lets go of my arm.
“You to aren’t, um, dating are you?” Richard asks.
“No no no. Definitely not,” Perrie says.
“No chance,” I interject.
“Well, you know that if you are you should really tell us right?” He asks.
“Well we aren’t,” I say.
“I’m heading off now. But well done Perrie, the show was great,” he says.
“Thanks,” Perrie says and he walks away.
“Phew, that was close,” I say, once Richard is out of sight.
“No chance?” she says, poking me.
“I think we made it believable,” I tell her and we wait for the rest of the girls to come out of the changing room before we go home.
The girls and all the other contestants go out partying but me and Perrie go back to the hotel. We go to my hotel because there are fans at her hotel and they can’t know that I’m here.
-
“You wanna order room service?” I ask, lying next to her on the bed while we watch TV.
“Not hungry,” she says.
“What? You’re never not hungry. What’s wrong?” I ask.
“I wanna do something fun,” she says, turning to me.
“Like what?”
“I dunno. What do you do with the boys when you’re in hotels?”
“Um. We knock on people’s doors then run away,” I say.
“Yeah let’s do that!” she says excitedly.
“No Per. It’s too late,” I say.
“Well then lets go swimming,” she suggests.
“It’s late and I don’t have any swimming shorts,” I say.
“We’ll go in our underwear,” she says.
“But um Perrie… I can’t swim,” I confess, embarrassed.
“You’re joking?” she asks while laughing.
“I don’t really like the water,” I say.
“Come on I’ll teach you. Or just sit by the side. Please Zayn, I wanna do something fun,” she begs.
“Ok ok,” I say, “I’ll come and watch you swim.”
She jumps off the bed and rushes into the bathroom to get a towel. She grabs my hand and pulls me out of the hotel room and into the elevator to go down to the swimming pool.
We get to the swimming pool and it is quite dark. There was a sign saying the pool was closed but Perrie ignored it.
“You want me to hold your towel?” I ask and she hands me the towel. I go over to a chair by the side of the pool and sit down, watching Perrie as she takes off her clothes until she is wearing just a bra and knickers. She gasps as she slides into the cold pool.
“Zaaayn. It’s cold,” she says, shivering.
“Come out then,” I say, holding out the towel and holding my hand out to pull her out. She grabs my hand and the next thing I know I’m in the water. It’s too deep and I can’t stand. I flap my arms as I try to find the wall of the pool. I find the side and gasp for air. I turn and see Perrie hysterically laughing.
“Perrie. I said I couldn’t swim! I could’ve drowned,” I say as I ruffle my hair with my hand.
“Do you trust me?” she asks as she floats around in the middle of the pool.
“No. You’re too crazy,” I say, still clinging onto the side.
“Come on. I taught my brother to swim. I’m a pro,” she says.
“I can’t Perrie,” I say.
She swims over to me and holds my waist. She says, “Just come with me to the shallow end then.”
I take off my wet trousers and t-shirt and throw them out of the pool. I let go of the side and take Perrie’s hands. She swims backwards, pulling me to the other end of the pool. “Okay. I can stand now,” I say and put my feet on the ground.
“See that wasn’t so bad,” she says as she wraps her legs around my waist.
“It was,” I say as I push the hair back off of her face. “But I love you for trying,” I say and I kiss her passionately.
“You wanna do something naughty,” she says with a twinkle in her eyes.
“Being in the pool when it’s shut is naughty,” I say, “what do you mean?”
She unwraps her legs from me and begins undoing her bra.
“No. No. No. Perrie stop,” I say, shaking my head, “someone will come in.”
“Don’t be such a chicken,” she says and she flings her bra out of the pool.
“Oh my god Perrie. There could be cameras,” I say as I go over to her, trying to cover her up as I scan the room for cameras.
“See any?” she asks.
“No. But Perrie there could be people watching. Let’s go,” I say, trying to guide her over to the side of the pool.
“No. When did you get so boring?” she asks.
“I’m not.”
“You are the most boring guy I know,” she teases pushing her body up against me.
“Urgh I hate you,” I say, holding her against me.
“Liar!” she shouts.
“Perrie shush,” I say, putting my finger over her mouth, “Let’s just go.”
“Next time you want me to do something I’ll remember this Zayn Malik. I’ll remember when you wouldn’t skinny dip with me,” she says, swimming away.
“Whatever you say,” I say as I make my way over to the side of the pool and pull myself out. As I’m lifting myself out of the pool I feel a tug on my pants and the next thing I know, I’m in the pool with my pants around my ankles.
“I’m going to fucking kill you,” I say as I lift my pants up and get out of the pool fully this time. I grab the towel and dry myself off while Perrie is laughing hysterically while getting out of the pool. I hand her the towel and she dries herself off and puts her trackies and t-shirt on. I swoop her up into my arms and carry her bridal style. “Where d’you wanna go?” I say, motioning to the pool.
“Don’t you fucking dare,” she says as she tries to wriggle free.
“Struggle and you’re going in.”
“Zayn. I’m fully dressed. Don’t you fucking dare.”
“Tell me I’m not boring.”
“I can’t lie Zayn,” she teases.
“3. 2. 1.” I countdown as I get ready to throw her in.
“Fine. Fine. You’re not boring,” she says, panicking.
“Too late,” I say and I fling her in the pool.
As she is submerged into the water a giant splash soaks me and her head comes back up to the surface. There’s something wrong.
“Perrie?! What the fuck has happened to your eyes?” I ask as her eyes turn red and she clutches her head.
“Ah! My head!” she screams as she turns her hair and I see blood coming out of her scalp.
“Oh my fucking god!” I say and I jump in. I grab her and pull her up onto the side of the pool and get out. “Perrie. Stay there. I’ll go and get help,” I say and I run out of the room, leaving her sitting on the side of the pool, staring at her blood covered hands and at the red pool water. What have I done to her?
“Someone call an ambulance" I shout, "Please anyone!!! HELP!”
