Chapter 12

Zayn POV

“Where are they Niall?” I ask.

“North London hospital,” he says.

“Are you there now?”

“Yeah,” he says through the tears.

“Look Niall stay there, I’ll be there in a minute.” I turn the car around and start driving back to Perrie’s house. “Whose with you?” I ask him.

“No one. Louis and Liam are on their way,” he says.

“I’ll pick up Perrie and I’ll be there Niall. I promise. Wait there.”

I hang up on Niall and call Perrie.

“Perrie get outside the house now,” I tell her.

“What why?”

“Just do it Perrie.”

“Ok ok.”

I pull up to her house and she is waiting outside. Still in her party dress but now with a wooly jumper on top.

“Perrie get in the car,” I tell her and she jumps in.

“What is going on Zayn? You’re scaring me.”

I speed off down the road, well over the speeding limit but we needed to get to the hospital. Niall couldn’t be there alone.

“It’s Harry and Jade,” I tell her, starting to cry, “They’ve been in a car crash.”

She claps her hand over her mouth and starts sobbing. I don’t know what to say to her so I sit there for the rest of the journey in silence while she sobs.

We pull up to the hospital and it has only taken us 5 minutes. “Take them off,” I tell Perrie, referring to her high heels and she slips them off, leaving them in the car. We both jump out of the car and the ground is dirty so I pick Perrie up and carry her, running into the hospital.

“Niall!” I shout as I see him and I put Perrie on the floor. I run over to him and give him a long hug, wiping the tears from under his eyes.

“Are you here for Harry Styles?” A tall doctor asked us.

“Yes and Jade Thirlwall,” I tell the doctor, holding Perrie’s hand.

“Well they got hit by a car and that was well over the speeding limit and the driver was also over the alcohol limit. Harry has some minor injuries including scars and a broken leg and is waking up, but Jade isn’t awake yet.” The doctor tells us.

“Where the fuck is the driver?” I ask angrily.

“He died on the impact,” the doctor told us.

Niall wrapped Perrie in a massive hug as she started sobbing even more.

“Where are they?” I ask the doctor.

“They are in different rooms down this corridor. Mr Styles in room 10 and Miss Thirlwall in room 12,” the doctor told us.

“Guys!” I hear Louis and Liam shout. “Sorry we took so long there was traffic, where are they?”

“We are going to see them now,” I say.

“Zayn. You go see Harry, I’m going to see Jade,” Perrie tells me.

“No. The boys will see Harry. You can’t be on your own,” I tell her and wrap my arm around her, leading her to Jade’s room.

We enter the room and Jade is just lying there, lifeless. Perrie runs over to the side of her bed and kisses Jade’s head. She grabs Jades hand and holds onto it, telling her, “Jade please wake up. I’m here. It’s going to be okay. Please wake up. I can’t live without you. I don’t know what I’d do. I need you to talk to about boys, I need you to make me smile when I’m feeling down, I need you to hug me when I’m lonely and I need you to be here. I love you so much Jade, please wake up,” she says, kissing Jade’s hand.

A female nurse walks in and I turn and ask her, “What is happening? When will she wake up?”

“We don’t know right now,” she says, “She is very strong and is lucky to still be alive following the impact the crash had on her.”

“Is she going to die?” I ask.

“Zayn. Stop. She doesn’t know,” Perrie tells me.

“We are hopeful but it seems likely that she wont make the surgery,” the nurse says.

“When is the surgery?” Perrie asks.

“We need to start prepping her now,” the nurse says.

Perrie turns back to Jade and says, “You can do this Jade, I know you can. I promise we will go to Disneyland and you can meet Minnie Mouse and I promise I wont ever leave you.”

“Come on Perrie,” I say and me and Perrie leave the room. “Should we wait in the waiting room or do you want to see Harry?” I ask her.

“You need to see Harry,” she says.

“Perrie I swear to god I’m not leaving you by yourself right now. You’re coming too,” I say as I walk in front of her to Harry’s room.

As we enter the room I see Harry, with the boys all around him smiling. “Hey mate,” I say as I see him and he smiles. He has a breathing mask over his face so can not talk. The boys stop smiling as soon as they see Perrie.

“Perrie how is Jade?” Liam asks, walking over to hug her.

“She is just going into surgery,” I reply. I didn’t want Perrie to have to say it.

“Perrie,” Harry whispers with little breath having taken his breathing mask off, “I’m sorry. I’m really really sorry.”

“Harry, it wasn’t your fault,” I tell him.

“I’m just sorry Perrie,” he says.

“It was the other drivers fault, not yours,” she says, finally managing to speak. “I’m just glad you’re okay,” she says. Harry puts his breathing mask back on tears start to fall from his face. “Hey don’t you cry too,” Perrie says, “No one is angry with you.” She goes over and kisses his head. “I’ll be in the waiting room,” she says and she walks out.

“I’ll go wait with her,” I say.

“No, you stay with Harry. I’ll go,” Liam says and he walks out. I grabbed a seat and sat down next to Niall.

“You alright bro?” Niall asks me.

“Not really. I’m worried about her,” I say.

“Who? Jade?” Niall asks.

“Well yeah but Perrie as well. What if Jade doesn’t make it through surgery? She’s her best friend and if she dies then Perrie has lost her best friend and Little Mix and I don’t know if I’ll be able to look after her.” I say.

“Mate stop,” Louis says, noticing that Harry is getting upset.

“Sorry Harry. I’m sure Jade will be fine. The nurse said she was really stronger. She’s a little fighter,” I say, regretting that I mentioned the possibility of Zayn dying.

After a while of sitting there and chatting, Liam ran round the corner, “guys she’s out of surgery.” I get up and walk out the room while Niall and Louis stay in the room.

“Zayn tell us what happens,” Louis says.

“I will,” I say and I make my way to Jade’s room with Liam.

“How is she?” I ask the nurse as I enter Jade’s room.

“The surgery went well and hopefully she should be waking up soon. She has had a lot of medication so it is just a case of waiting.”

“That’s great,” I say, hugging Perrie and kissing her head.

“I’ll go and tell the boys,” Liam says and he rushes out of the room.

“Lets sit down and wait then babe,” I say.

After we sit in the room for about an hour Perrie falls asleep with her head on my lap and her body stretched across the long chair. I delicately stroke her face with my thumb and place a light kiss on her cheek. “I hope you know that you’re beautiful Perrie. I promise I’ll be here for you no matter what,” I whisper to her while she sleeps.

“Hey bro,” Louis says as he stands at the enterance of Jade’s room.

“Shhh,” I say, pointing at sleeping Perrie.

“Sorry,” he whispers, “Harry is sleeping now so me and the boys are going to go home. Niall wants to stay but we told him to go home and get some sleep.”

“Okay well I’m going to stay here with Perrie,” I say.

“You sure?”

“Yeah,” I say, looking down at her beautiful, peaceful face, “I’ll check up on Harry in a bit.”

“Well I’ll come back in few hours then and I’ll bring you both clothes.”

“Okay thanks mate. Love you,” I say.

“Love you too, stay safe,” Louis says and he leaves.

After a while of looking at Perrie I start to fall asleep.

I am only half asleep when I hear someone say, “Where am I?”

I open my eyes and see that Jade’s eyes are open. “Perrie wake up,” I say, shaking Perrie, “She’s awake.”

“JADE!” Perrie says and gets up from the chair, rushing over to Jade.

“Perrie. What am I doing here?” Jade asks.

“You and Harry were in a car accident,” I tell her as I stand by her bed.

“What? Where is he?” Jade asks.

“He’s fine. He’s sleeping,” I say.

“I can’t believe you’re awake. I was so worried Jade,” Perrie says, stroking Jade’s hair back.

“Ouch,” Jade squeals as she tries to sit up a bit.

“What’s wrong?” Perrie asks, concerned.

“No it’s just my stomach. What happened to me?”

“You had surgery,” Perrie says.

“Oww it is so painful,” Jade says.

“I’ll go get a nurse,” I say and rush out the room.

“Nurse! Nurse! I say, looking for a nurse,” when I spot the nurse I tell her Jade has woken up and I follow her back to Jade’s room.

“I’m just going to do a few tests. Would you two mind stepping outside for a minute?” The nurse asks me and Perrie.

“No that is fine,” I say and I lead Perrie out by her hand. We walk over to Harry’s room and there is a nurse in there helping him get out of bed.

“Harry, Jade woke up!” Perrie says.

“Ah that’s amazing. Is she ok?”

“Well they’re doing a few tests on her now,” Perrie tells him.

“When can I see her?” Harry asks.

“When her nurse comes and gets us,” I tell him.

We wait with Harry and I hold him upright while the nurse runs and gets a wheelchair for him to sit in.

“How are you feeling?” Perrie asks him.

“Bit sore but I’ll be fine,” he says.

“I’m not sure I’ll be fine. You way a tone,” I joke.

“Oi,” he says as the nurse brings in a wheelchair and I put him in it.

Jade’s nurse enters and says, “Guys she’s fine. You can come and see her now.”

I push Harry’s chair out of his room as we follow Perrie into Jade’s room.

“Jade,” Harry says when he sees her.

“Hi there,” Jade says.

“Jade. I am so so sorry,” Harry says as I wheel him next to Jade’s bed.

“It’s not your fault,” she says as she puts her hand on Harry’s.

“We’re going to go and get some food. We’ll leave you alone,” Perrie says and she leads me out the room.

When we get out of Jade’s room she stops walking and turns to me and kisses my lips. “What was that for?” I ask.

“Just thank you. Thank you for waiting with me, thank you for looking after me. I don’t know what I’d do without you,” she says.

“You’re welcome babe,” I say as I hold her face and kiss her again. She grabs my hand and we walk to the vending machine. “Oh and Perrie. I love you,” I say.

I wait as she doesn’t reply. Shit. I shouldn’t have said anything. After the longest silence I have ever experienced she says, “I love you too Zayn.” A smile spreads across my face as I carry on walking to the vending machine with the girl I love.
