Lover Sacrificed - Chapter 48

02:05, 10 October 2014

Penehlope huffed as she dematerialized.

She had had a huge fight with her father right before coming over. She had demanded he kill Darius right after the ceremony. Or at least refuse to give him the antidote. But Feron had refused, saying she needed to give the prince an heir to make the bond with the royal house even stronger. She was already plotting on how to get out of that. Had she known, she wouldn’t have done what she did, a couple of weeks ago.

- You’re late, little girl.

- Excuse me?

She looked at the little robed figure in front of her.

This was the Scribe Virgin? The all-powerful mother of the race?

Oh puh-lease, she almost laughed out loud. No wonder her mahmen didn’t adore her. She was nothing!

- I do not appreciate your tardiness!

- I’m a future shellan, we’re supposed to be late.

A child ran up to the little figure and Penehlope cringed her nose. Oh, how she hated kids.

- I shall forgive this insolence but once. Get ready. You’re about to get mated.

The little female floated away towards the king and her parents started nagging in her ear.

- I cannot believe  we have not been allowed to invite anyone. This Scribe Virgin thinks she’s all that.

- Shhh she can hear you. I know dear, but we just have to up with this for a little while longer. Once we are related to the king, we will be able to do whatever we want.

- Mom, dad, will you please just shut up already!

- Feron!

A deep male voice greeted her father. Oh my, it was the leahdyre of the Glymera, Rehvenge.

She licked her lips.

He was F-I-N-E.

His amethyst eyes turned to her in disgust before going back to her father.

- After the ceremony, you and I need to have a little chat.

*-*-*-*-*

Wrath stood next to the Scribe Virgin as he listened to Feron and his family. His Beth was right. He should have killed him the minute he received the threats. He should have found another way.

- Judging by my presence here today, I take it you have not understood the advice that was given to you?

- I’m afraid not. We have been investigating, looking into everything we could think off. Since you told me ‘the answer is in the blood’ – we have done nothing but try. And fail. We have come up with nothing.

- So be it. Let’s start this mating ceremony already. My Mhisery gets nervous when she is out of the other side for too long.

Wrath couldn’t help but be amazed as she left his side. He would never get used to seeing her as an actual mother, sure, she was the mother of the race, but… After knowing what she did to V and Payne, it was a bit of a shock.

He shook his head, trying to clear his mind.

- Hey dad.

- Matt, son, are you all right?

- Yeah, just worried about D.

- I know, son. Where is he, I can’t hear him.

- He’s talking to that Penehlope bitch…

- Matt…

Wrath sighed, he couldn’t tell one son off for defending the other. The scribe Virgin spoke up.

- Darius, son of Wrath and Penehlope, daughter of Feron, come stand before me.

Darius obeyed immediately but Penehlope was chatting away with her parents. Wrath almost chuckled. The Scribe Virgin did not do well with being ignored.

- Feron! Teach your child some manners! When I call her name, she should at least have the decency to acknowledge me.

Penehlope huffed and puffed but walked over, all the while looking at the Scribe Virgin over her nose. By the quiet gasps of everyone around him, Wrath figured the Scribe Virgin had taken her hood down.

- Very well, let’s get this over and done with. This mating will be completed to unite Darius son of Wrath to Penehlope, daughter of Feron. The terms of this mating are stipulated in a contract set up by Wrath, son of Wrath and Feron, son of Remok. Signed and agreed to by both parties. If, for any reason, the terms are not met by either Darius son of Wrath or Penehlope, daughter of Feron, the mating ritual will be annulled.

The Scribe Virgin smiled as if she were hoping for just that.

- Let’s start, shall we?
