2 - Drift

Time is 11:28, and everyone has decided it was time to call it a night

By around 10:30, everyone had started to sober up a little bit with the help of Giyu, Rengoku, and Tengen, so Giyu was able to enjoy some time with his friends tonight

Since only 4 people were sober the whole night, and Muichiro can't drive, only Giyu, Rengoku, and Tengen could drive people home

(Uzui did drink it just doesn't affect him cause, you know, ninja genes or something)

Rengoku decided to take Mitsuri and Obanai home as their houses were along the route to his home anyway

Sanemi and Muichiro were going with Tengen as they all lived in the same apartment building

This only left Giyu with one choice, and his supposed passenger hated the idea with a passion

"Come on, Shinobu. It only makes sense" Mitsuri said, trying to convince her

"Giyu is the only driver whose route home would pass by your house" Tengen added, and Shinobu knew this

She knew it had to be Giyu, but she also knew she did not want it to be him

"We know you two are exes, but please, I don't want you to go home on your own. It's late already" Shinobu sighed at Mitsuri's concern

She appreciates her best friend's concern towards her, but tonight, it was not helping

"Fine" She said reluctantly

Everyone was at the parking lot, saying their goodbyes and driving off

Everyone seemed happy, except for these two. Everyone also seemed thrilled just imagining how their car ride would go

Giyu was fine with the whole situation. He just knew she definitely wasn't and knew this would be awkward as hell

Giyu fake coughed as he started the car

"You can connect your phone if you want to listen to your music" Giyu said while gripping onto the steering wheel, trying to be polite to his ex

"Didn't ask" Shinobu was looking out the passenger side window. Giyu couldn't see, but he knew she probably rolled her eyes then

"Okay, I'll play my own music then" Giyu said as he connected his phone to his car's infotaiment system. "Didn't ask"

Giyu sighed before playing a song that sparked Shinobu's system up

It was their song

It was "Softly" by Clairo

Giyu's eyes widened as he tried to skip. He had a terrified look. How unlucky could Giyu be

"Look, I swear-"

"Giyu, what the hell!" Shinobu exclaimed before sighing in disbelief "Was this your plot? Your plan? You want me back or something?" Shinobu scolded further

"I put the playlist on shuffle. And I don't know how this could be a plot to get you back" Giyu said, trying to be as calm as possible

"Putting me in this secluded space, playing our song. Well, even if this wasn't your plan, I hope you know you won't ever-" She paused, pointing at her whole body

"Get this-" she paused again

"Back" Shinobu emphasized this last word

"I know that, Shinobu. I don't want you back anyway"

Giyu's bluntness made Shinobu's confidence falter slightly, but she gained back her composure quick

"Good."

"Good."

The two went silent, so Giyu decided to finally drive off. He sighed, which made Shinobu look at him and roll her eyes

After 10 minutes of only the engine sounds and the music filling the car, Shinobu decided to confront Giyu on something

"So-" Giyu glanced at Shinobu for a millisecond, making sure to still focus on the road

"You were with Daki? I saw her post earlier" Shinobu asked, still looking out the window "Yep"

"That's why you were late?" Giyu wasn't liking where this conversation might go

"Not really. Got preoccupied on other stuff" Giyu reasoned as he turned a corner

"Can't believe you're friends with her"

"Shinobu-"

"I'm just saying" Shinobu made sure to cut him off. She raised both her hands briefly, feigning innocence

"What she did was wrong, I understand, but when I needed a friend, she was there" Shinobu scoffed, looking at Giyu like he just said the worst thing possible

"All a plan to scoop you up after destroying us" Shinobu shook her head in disbelief

"We would've broken up anyway-"

"So you're defending her?" Shinobu cut Giyu off

"That is not what I'm doing"

"So what are you doing?"

"What I'm saying is that it is easier to blame a person for something rather than accepting that you were at fault." Giyu said, direct but calm.

"So I was at fault?"

"We were at fault." Giyu paused, trying to make his point sink in "You know that, I know that"

"Okay, sure" Shinobu decided to just stop the argument, so they stayed silent for another 10 minutes before they arrived at the Butterfly Estate, home of the Kochos

"Thanks, I guess" Shinobu said as she left the car, not even looking at Giyu

She was walking towards her gate as she heard another car door opening. She turned and saw Giyu walking towards her

"What do you think you're doing?" Shinobu crossed her arms "Just making sure you won't trip while walking to the door" Giyu teased

"Whatever!" Shinobu exclaimed before opening the gate. Giyu followed with a small smirk plastered on his face

Shinobu knocked, and after a few seconds, Kanao opened the door. Shinobu rushed inside and plopped on the couch

"Are you two..?" Kanao asked, pointing at Giyu and her sister "No, Kanao, but it's nice to see you again" Kanao smiled and nodded before waving goodbye and closing the door

Giyu entered his car and started to drive off. After a few minutes, he receives a call

"Yes, Daki?"
