Part Sixty-Four
13:40, 18 July 2014Sophia’s POV
“We have a surprise for you today,” Niall grinned as I woke up.
“What is it?” I asked.
“Well, if I told you, then it wouldn’t be a surprise now, would it?” He winked and climbed out the bed.
“Do we have to get up now?” I mumbled; rolling back over and trying to get some more sleep.
“It’s time to get up in the morning,” He started singing softly.
“No! No, I am up,” I shouted, jumping out of bed, knowing what was coming.
“Good, now get dressed,” He threw me a pair of my denim skinny jeans, his blue polo shirt and underwear.
“Yes Sir,” I saluted him and walked into the bathroom. I had a quick shower and got dressed. I cleaned my teeth, applied my make-up and brushed my hair.
“Hair up or down?” I shouted to Niall from the bathroom.
“Up,” He shouted back.
“Thank you,” I replied and tied my hair up in a high pony tail. I wonder what we’ll be doing today. I hope it’ll be good; what I am thinking? Of course it’ll be good, the boys have organised it!
“You’ll need these as well,” He handed me my flat brown knee high boots.
“Cheers,” I kissed his cheek and slipped the shoes on. I went downstairs and grabbed a slice of toast.
“What do you think we’ll be doing today Soph?” Molly asked, sitting next to me. She was wearing similar to me, as were the other girls.
“I have no idea, but it’ll be great whatever it is,” I smiled.
“I said that, I mean the boys always make everything fun!”Lauren grinned.
“Aw, thanks babe,” Harry walked in and kissed her, smack on the lips.
“Get a room,” I muttered.
“We’re in one,” Lauren shot back.
“Whatever, are we going yet?” I asked Harry.
“As soon as everyone’s had breakfast,” He gave me a pointed look.
“I had a slice of toast,” I reassured him.
“Okay, I was just checking,” He said defensively as Lauren hit his arm.
“No, it’s fine, I know you guys just care for me,” I smiled and hugged him, “Thank you.” I whispered the last bit in his ear.
“It’s okay, I don’t know what any of us would do without you Soph,” He kissed my cheek lightly as we pulled away. I wiped away a tear quickly, that had slid down my cheek. Cheeky bugger.
“Is everyone ready?” Niall walked in the room.
“Ruined the moment,” I giggled and Harry laughed, letting go of my hand.
“Sorry, were you two having a moment?” Niall asked, “I can leave again…”
“No, it’s fine,” Harry laughed.
“Let’s go,” Beth cheered as Zayn, Louis and Liam entered the room.
“We need breakfast first,” The boys whined.
“Well hurry up!” All us girls shouted.
“Sorry,” The boys all laughed at us, but hurriedly sat down and tucked into the pre-made food.
“Time goes by, so slowly,” I sang softly to a Madonna song,“Time goes by, so slowly.”
“Are you just going to repeat that line, over and over again?” Liam asked me.
“Maybe,” I shrugged, “It’s the only line I know.”
“Well, sing a different song then,” Harry said.
“Fine…” I thought of a new song.
“I’m over the moon, doing my thing, doing my thing. I’m over the moon, and I won’t come down,” I sang the beginning of the Cher Lloyd song, Over the Moon, and then I went into the rap, “I’m over the moon, no silver spoon in my milky way; when Simon told I was trouble all I said is ‘okay’.”
“No! Not Cher Lloyd,” Mel, Molly, Beth and Lauren shouted. They really didn’t like Cher Lloyd.
“Why not?” The boys asked. Of course, I forgot they were in the same year as her on the X Factor, she came forth, and they came third.
“They don’t like Cher,” I shrugged, “It’s okay, I’ll change the song.”
“You make me feel funny, yeah that’s what I found, when you come around now honey. What am I doing without you? You make me feel happy, when I leave you behind, it plays in my mind now honey. What am I doing without you?” I sang and Niall smiled.
“Oh, took for granted everything we had, as if I’d find someone who’s just like you,” Niall joined in my singing and then everyone joined in.
“Oh! We got a little world of our own, I’ll tell you things that no one else knows, I’ll let you in where no one else goes. What am I doing without you? All of the things I’ve been looking for, they’ve always been here outside of my door, and all of the time I’m looking for something knew. What am I doing without you?” We all sang loudly.
“Well I guess I’m ready,” I sang on my own, “For settling down, my fooling around is over. And I swear it’s true, no ‘but’s’ or ‘maybe’s’.”
“’But’s’ or ‘maybe’s’,” Niall sang softly in the background, at the correct point.
We all fell about laughing. No buts or maybes. Oh my god. No buts! So funny.
“No buts!” I laughed so hard. “Well, that was a nice bit of Westlife for you all,” I smiled once we stopped laughing.
“Indeed,” Niall agreed.
“So, can we go now?” Beth asked.
“Yes!” Mel, Molly, Lauren and I shouted; all looking expectantly at the boys. It was fair to say we were all really excited for today’s surprise.
“Okay, okay, it’ll take us a while to get there anyway,”Louis shrugged.
“Oh well, YOLO!” I grinned then I thought about what I just said, “Did I seriously just say ‘YOLO’? Who am I? Zayn when he’s drunk?”
Everyone started laughing, except Zayn who didn’t look amused. “That was not funny, we got grounded for that,” He huffed.
“Zayn, babe, it was the funniest thing all year; how could you and Harry getting drunk in Australia not be funny?” Lauren laughed.
“Harry was crawling on the floor, you were chasing him shouting ‘YOLO’, then you got chucked out of the club,” Beth said, “What part of what I just said is not funny?”
“Okay, when you put it like that it is kind of funny,” Zayn cracked a smile.
“Kind of?” Lauren gave him a weird look.
“What?” Zayn asked her.
“I’m giving you the death of disbelief,” She said.
“The what?” We all laughed.
“I meant the look of disbelief, okay?” She face palmed; putting extra emphasis on the ‘look’.
“You idiot,” I laughed.
“Shut up,” Lauren moaned.
“Death of disbelief? What is that? You absolute fool!” Beth laughed harder than I was.
“Shut up okay, it was a mistake,” Lauren huffed.
“Oh, somebody’s moody,” Molly laughed.
“If you say one more word,” Lauren warned us.
“You’ll do what?” Mel asked.
“Give us all the death of disbelief?” Beth smirked and we all high-fived.
“I hate you,” She grumbled and stalked out the house.
“Leggo,” I laughed and we all followed Lauren out to the car, van thing. Louis would be driving us to this mystery destination today. We all climbed in the van, I sat in the middle row in the middle seat, Molly to my left and Niall to my right; Harry was shot gun, with Louis driving, then Mel, Zayn, Liam and Beth were in the back.
“So, where are we going?” I asked casually.
“Do you know what the term ‘surprise’ means?” Harry asked me, from his seat in the front.
“Yes,” I sighed.
“Well, then you should know that it means, ‘an unexpected or astonishing event, fact, or thing’” Harry said and we all looked at him in shock.
“How do you know the definition of ‘surprise’ off by heart?” Liam asked, breaking the silence that had formed, well other than the hum of the engine.
“I can be smart,” He shrugged, and then Louis laughed.
“He has Google up on his phone,” Louis said, once he calmed down and we all laughed at Harry.
“Anyway, the point is, if we tell you where we are going then it won’t be unexpected will it? Therefore, it won’t be a surprise,” Harry huffed.
“He has a point,” Niall said.
“I a-" Zayn stared but I cut him off.
“We know you’re riding the rollercoaster that is life, there’s no need to tell us again Zayn,” I gave him a pointed look. We’d been teasing him about this ever since that interview yesterday. It was just too good an opportunity to miss.
“Shut up, I wasn’t going to say that,” He huffed.
“Sure you weren’t,” Molly giggled beside me and we smirked at each other.
“So, Molly did you pass your second driving test?” I asked, as people picked up conversation with each other.
“Yes, I did, no dogs ran out in front of me luckily,” Molly smiled. She’d explained everything to us after her and Liam got back together; thankfully.
“That’s good, have you paid them back for the damage yet?” I smiled reassuringly.
“Yes, I paid most of it, but Liam insisted on paying the rest; but I’ve still kept my job at the café, it’s quite nice, and at least then I can try and pay Liam back, and buy things for myself in the future. I hate taking his money,” She sighed.
“I can hear you, you know. And you will not pay me back Molly Runacres,” Liam smirked from behind us.
“I will,” Molly argued, “I will not let you waste your hard earned money on me.”
“I’m not wasting it on you Molly,” Liam sighed.
“No, not anymore,” Molly smirked triumphantly. Liam gave up the argument there, knowing he wasn’t going to win this time. But I know when Molly tries to give Liam the money in the end, he’ll win and he won’t let her give him the money. He’s just that sort of person.
“Soph,” Niall smiled at me and turned to face him more.
“Yes,” I smiled back.
“You know how we’re… leaving for three months,” Niall looked nervous.
“Yes…” I encouraged him to continue talking. He was talking very quietly, obviously he didn’t want the others to hear our conversation; not that they could over Lauren’s loud snort-laughing and the banter that was getting shouted across the car.
“Well, you know what happened last time we went away,” He whispered.
“Niall, I’ll be fine, I promise, I will eat and I won’t…” I took a deep breath before continuing, “Hurt myself.”
Tears pricked my eyes and my eyes cast down to my arms. I hadn’t really thought about the scars much, until now. I was wearing Niall’s polo shirt, so you could see the scars clearly marked on my wrist. I bit down on my lip, hard, trying to stop the over-whelming feeling to burst into tears. I angrily scratched at my wrist, wanting to get rid of the scars.
“Sophia, Sophia stop it, you’ll hurt yourself,” Niall took my hands in his and hugged me tightly to his chest. I will not cry. I will not cry. I will not cry. I chanted over and over in my head, forcing the tears away.
“You’re going to be okay Sophia,” Niall whispered in my ear.
“Niall,” I whispered, pulling away from his hold, “I’ll be fine, I promise I’ll be good and I’ll have the girls with me, and I can visit you, and we can talk all the time, and if I have any trouble on Twitter I’ll tell you or one of the girls, okay? Just please don’t send me back into the hospital,” I pleaded with him, scared they’d send me back there. I don’t want to go back there.
“We won’t make you go back to the hospital Sophia,” He smiled reassuringly at me. I nodded and turned my attention to the front window; not wanting to draw attention to myself.
We were on the motorway. It reminded me of Final Destination as I saw a lorry drive by, leaking something. I also saw a woman on the phone, with children messing around in the back of the car and another car with a young man smoking in it, with a dog sitting in the seat. There was also a huge ditch by the side of the road.
I pretended to look dazed as I stared out the front window, getting an idea. I’m bored and I need entertaining, okay? I need to spice this car journey up a bit. I pulled out my phone, when everyone was distracted and quickly text Harry.
To Hazza; switch the radio on to 180 when I give you the signal, just trust me x
I sent it and he gave me a quizzical look in the overhead mirror, I just sent him a subtle nod back. I saw a sharp bit of plastic on the car seat in front of me and waited for the right moment.
It seemed luck was on my side.
A few minutes later, someone cut Louis up on the road and Louis had to hit the brake really quickly before he hit the car. I used my hand to stop me flying forward (obviously I had my seatbelt on as well). I swiped my thumb harshly on the plastic, cutting it. I hissed in pain, making sure the others heard it.
“What?” Niall asked me.
“I cut my thumb,” I mumbled, pretending to look scared. I looked out the window at the woman on the phone with the children, the leaking lorry ahead of us, and the smoking man with the dog.
“What’s going on Soph? You look scared,” Molly whispered.
“Molly, you’ve got to believe me,” I said frantically.
“What Sophia?” She asked, sitting up in alarm.
“Molly… I think I had a premonition!” I gasped, looking at her with wide eyes.
“What do you mean?” She asked, but I could see she knew what I meant by the look on her face.
“Like on Final Destination, please we’ve got to get out the car now! The lorry, it’s leaking and that man’s going to drop his cigarette out the window, it lands on the leak and sets on fire, the lorry blows up and we’re all going to die!” I cried, and everyone fell silent.
“Louis, stop the car,” Molly said, trying to stay calm.
“No, she’s just messing,” Louis shook his head. I gave Harry a look and he turned the radio on to 180.
“Molly! Look at the radio frequency! It’s a sign!” I shouted; pointing at the ‘180’.
“Flight 180,” She whispered. “Stop the car."
“Look, it’s not that far now,” Louis argued.
“Stop the f*cking car!” Molly shouted. Quoting the film Driving Lessons, that had Rupert Grint and Julia Walters staring in it.
“Okay, okay, I’m stopping!” Louis shouted in defence and pulled up the side of the road. He pulled over into the nearby layby.
I jumped out the car, after Molly, who shot out the car before it had fully stopped; and everyone followed after us.
“I don’t want to watch people die,” Lauren cried, hiding her head in Harry’s shoulder; I could see he was trying not to laugh.
“You guys are so gullible,” I laughed and Harry joined in.
“What?” Molly, Lauren, Mel and Beth shrieked.
“She was messing with you,” Harry laughed.
“You knew?” Lauren shouted and hit Harry on the arm.
“Abuse!” Harry shrieked, jumping away from Lauren and into Louis’ arms.
“Hazza,” Louis said merrily, as he held Harry bridal styles.
“Wait, back to this premonition thing,” Beth said, “So you didn’t have a premonition and we’re not going to die?”
“No, we are not going to die,” I laughed.
“What about the radio?” Mel asked.
“Harry did it, I text him, telling him what to do,” I shrugged.
“Can we get back in the car and carry on the journey then?”Liam asked.
“Of course Daddy,” I smiled innocently as he sent me a glare.
“Leggo!” Niall shouted and we all ran back to the car; I dived in like Superman and sat in my seat as everyone else got in the boring way.
“What are we doing tomorrow?” Beth asked.
“We’ve not even finished today yet,” Zayn laughed.
“It’s always good to plan ahead,” Mel sang.
“Or you could be a winger, and wing life,” I shrugged then added, “Sorry Zayn, I mean, wing the rollercoaster of life.”
“Urgh, again, seriously?” He huffed.
“I can honestly say, I will never, ever, let you live that down,” I threw him a smile, over my shoulder.
“So, tomorrow?” Beth asked.
“Shopping,” Louis suggested from the front.
“We can’t,” All of us girls huffed.
“Oh yeah,” Louis smirked as well as the rest of the boys.
“You all got banned from the shopping mall,” They all sang before bursting out laughing.
And so we carried on our journey to the mysterious place, amongst the unknown. The rest of the journey was full of banter, laughter and a few games of ‘eye spy’. What’s a car journey without ‘eye spy’?
