Chapter 21

Jacob comes into my room. He seems nervous.

"Aina, Peeta is all messed up." He says.

"What do you mean?" I say my voice manages to stay calm till the end where you can hear panic.

"He attacked Katniss." He says.

"What! Why?"

"They say he was hijacked. With tracker jacker venom or something." He says.

"Oh can I see him?" I say worried for my friend.

"No, I don't think they would risk it." He says.

"Well is Katniss okay?"

"She can't talk and has a neck brace on, but she is alive so I guess." He says.

"That must be awful."

"She was so excited to see him too." He says sitting down next to me.

"Will the normal Peeta be back ever?"

"Their trying, but honestly I doubt it." He says looking at me. Eyes full of pity.

"So hijacking made him mad at Katniss?" I say.

"They altered his memories to see Katniss as a threat." He explains

"Does he see anyone else as a threat?"

"Not that we know of."

I smooth my hair out trying to seem calm. He doesn't fall for it. He wraps me in a hug.

"It's gonna be okay. They are trying everything they can. I promise." He says.

"I know. I know." I say my voice cracking.

"Luca is coming in any minute. He is upset so don't talk about anything too sad." He says quietly.

And almost on cue Luca comes in obviously annoyed. When he sees me upset his face changes into concern.

"What happened?" He says.

"Nothing." I say straightening myself.

"Did you hear about Peeta?" He says.

I nod and he says, "Did Jacob tell you?"

"Yeah" I say

He hug me and says, "Well let's go get some breakfast."

A week later

I wait outside of the door anxiously. Apparently I am supposed to try and help Peeta remember somethings.

Someone tells me to go in. I walk in with a small smile. He is tied up to a bed.

He seems calm.

"Hi Peeta." I say my voice sounding way more calm then I am.

"Aina?" He says.

"That's me."

"Aina are you okay?" He says looking at my arm that still has a few cuts on it.

"Last time I checked, anyway how are you liking district 13?" I say casually.

"I haven't seen much of it."

"Maybe after u get cleared, I'll show you a bit of it."

"If I ever get cleared."

"You will eventually, you just gotta be patient."

"Yeah."

I nod and go to leave.

"You know I remember watching your games with my brothers." He says.

I flinch at the memory of my games but quickly compose myself.

"Yeah, I haven't seen the tape. I am to nervous to see if they got a clip of me taking a- well you know." I say light-heartedly.

He chuckles at my comment.

"None of us thought you would win in the beginning." He says.

"I don't blame you. I was quite tiny. Definitely an underdog."

"But the second you and your brother got some knives together, my brother started rooting for you. Everyone thought he was crazy for thinking you would get out."

"Really?"

"Yeah, when I asked him why he said because if he went into the games with any of us he would kill everyone there then himself to make sure we got out safely." He continues.

"Brothers are the best sometimes, aren't they?"

"Yeah, they really are."

"I am really sorry about what happened to your family." I say

"Thanks, I can't believe that mutt, Katniss had to do that." He says anger rising in his voice.

"It wasn't Katniss, but anyway I have to go. I'll try to come back later if you want."

I leave before he can answer. Annie is waiting for me outside the door. She has a huge smile on her face and Finnick stands next to her.

I narrow my eyes at him and motion that I got my eyes on him jokingly. He laughs.

Annie says, "Guess what?"

"We got a kitten!"

"Nope better!"

"We got a puppy!?"

"No even better! Finnick proposed!"

"Yay! But how is that better then a puppy?" I say.

They both laugh. I hug Annie and say, "Are they having a big capital wedding?"

"I think they are having a capital wedding but a lot less crazy." Finnick says

"I want to be the bridesmaid!" I say remembering a capital wedding I was invited to a while back.

"Of course!" Annie says

I hug her again and say, "Will we have a day off of training?"

I have started training to be able to go help the war. I haven't told Jacob or Luca because they would get all protective.

"Probably." Finnick says.

"Yess!! Congratulations!" I say

"Thank you." Annie says.

"No problem, I have to go to check out some stuff in the weapons room so bye." I say.

"Bye see you later."

I leave and go to the weapon room. Luca is already there with Beetee. Jacob comes in short of breath, he probably ran here.

"Aina, Jacob, took you long enough." Luca says.

"Yeah I ran into Annie and Finnick on my way here."

"And I forgot." Jacob says.

"Well we have some weapons for when Aina and you finish training." Luca says.

He has been working on weapons which wasn't suprising considering that he made the weapons we learned with.

"What's mine?" I say excitedly.

"Well you know how to use a gun right?" Beetee says.

"Yep!" I respond

"Well that is the weapon we picked for you! Don't be surprised everyone is getting a gun. But since u r my baby sister you get a cool one." Luca says.

"See this is why I keep you around." I say jokingly.

Betee picks up and gun and says, "This is it. It is lightweight and specifically designed to be able to carry around easily and it is easier to aim."

I hold it and the weight is perfectly distributed for me. I aim it at a target and hit it smack in the middle.

"Do you like it?" Luca asks.

"It is perfect." I say.

They show Jacob his gun and he is obviously excited about it. We will probably be going to the capital to fight anytime now so we have to be ready.
