Chapter 16

16:33, 15 September 2020

I walk confidently to the hall way where Peeta and the peacekeeper that brought us to our prep team wait for me.

The peacekeeper takes us back to our cell. I change back into the jumpsuit stubbornly. Not willing to wear a capital dress.

I curl up in the corner of my cell. The bruises on my back still hurt a lot, but I try my best to ignore them. There is nothing I can do to stop it.

I sit there wondering what Luca and Jacob are doing.

I finally decided to try and do something besides sitting and feeling bad for myself.

I sit up and take my hair out of it's bun. I decide I am going to try and braid it in one of Jacob's fancy braids.

I don't know how he did it without a comb or brush. I try and try until I get something half decent.

Peeta sits calmly in his cell. He stares at the ground.

I lean against on wall humming the tune to the song Jacob played on the piano.

After a few hours a few peacekeepers come in with a screaming girl. They throw her into the cell next to me.

She looks familiar like I have seen her before. She sits crying in her cell.

"Are you ok?" I ask even though she was just taken by the capital and is obviously not.

She just shakes her head.

"Que pasó? What's wrong?" I say almost forgetting to translate.

"Th-they took me from my house. I-I don't know what I did wrong." She says.

"Well do you know anyone in the rebellion?" I ask.

She starts to sob.

"Y-yeah I know F-finnick." She says.

Then it clicks. Annie Cresta.

"Oh gosh your Annie Cresta." I say. Using her full name like I always have.

"Y-yeah?" She says it like a question.

"You guys are sick! Why would you bring another person into your war!" I say loudly so that the peacekeepers could hear me. Fed up with being nice.

"Aina calm down." Peeta says cautiously.

"Yeah yeah your right sorry." I say regaining my calm.

Annie is still sobbing. I try to comfort her. I only know how to comfort my brothers.

I do the first thing that comes to mind.

"Uh. Um. La linda Manita, que tiene el bebe." I sing trying to calm her down.

She starts to calm down a little bit. She eventually falls asleep and I can finally be left alone with my thoughts.

I let my hair down and lay in the corner. I fall asleep after about an hour of just laying there.

~the next morning~

I wake up and silently pull my hair. Peeta is awake and Annie is still asleep. I don't dare make any noise in case it'll wake her up.

"Good morning." Peeta says.

"Morning." I whisper.

A few minutes go by and then a peacekeeper come into my cell.

"Come on kid, your first." He says.

I get up and follow him. We get into a room. It has a big machine in it. I don't flinch.

I still keep a calm and collected face on even though I am panicking.

A peacekeeper stands next to the machine with a whip. The other peacekeeper leaves. The new one grabs my arm.

He says, "Okay kid. Come on."

I nod and try to seem calm. He leads me to the other side of the room. We walk past many different torture devices.

I can't help but flinch when we pass the whipping post.

We don't stop at any of the torture devices. We simply go into another room. We walk down a hallway until we get into a office.

President Snow sits at his desk.

"Aina Trinity Telles. Correct?" He says.

I don't know why he says my full name he knows who I am.

"Yes." I say.

"What a shame you got tangled up into all this rebellion stuff isn't it?" He says.

I nod and look at my feet.

"I just need help to end this war. I think you know more about the reballion then u lead on. Just tell me and you can live here in the capital in a house instead of a cell." He says.

"They didn't tell me anything about their plans after the game. Honest." I say sincerely.

"So you admit to being part of their plan?" He asks.

"Yes." I say matter of factly.

"Well then can u tell me the plan?" He asks.

"You have heard it. Get the mockingjay out." I say.

"Is that all?" He asks.

"Yes. And if there was anything else they didn't tell me." I say.

He nods.

"Aina, I really don't want to do this, but if you don't tell us the whole plan we will have to use those torture devices out there on you."

"I told you I don't know anything else. I promise I don't." I say.

"You won't tell me. We need to test out the venom anyway." He says.

The peacekeeper leads me out into the torture room again.

He sits me down and put the clamps over my hands. He holds a syringe filled with brown liquid.

He puts the needle into my skin putting the venom into my body.

I know I'm nor supposed to scream but I can't help it. I scream. I only felt this kind of pain when my brothers and I threw rocks at a tracker jacker nest and I got stung.

I close my eyes tight and clench my hands into fists. I don't know how long the pain is there for but when it eventually stops I let out a sigh of relief.

"It works." The peacekeeper says to himself.

I didn't realize it but I was crying. My hands are tied up so I can't wipe my tears away.

My breathing steadies and I stop shaking. The peacekeeper takes me out of the chair.

I barely notice the pain of the bruises after the venom. He leads me back to my cell.

Peeta looks at me concerned. I know I probably look shaken and my face is still stained with tears but I don't care.

I go into my cell and sit in the corner.

"What happened?" Peeta asks.

"The put tracker jacker venom in me I think." I say.

"What?!"

"Nah it's fine they are just mad because I don't know what they want me to know." I say.
