Dinner With the "Roommate"

02:11, 21 December 2015

Bradley and Jaden had just finished setting the table, something Bradley wouldn't normally do with her parents, but Jaden insisted. He's so "old fashioned" and it's so annoying sometimes, yet still so cute! Dinner is completely done, besides the dinner rolls that Jaden is currently buttering, and they're pretty much ready to go.

There's a knock at the door followed by two little voices yelling "Baddy!" and then two older voices shushing them. Bradley nervously walks to the door and opens it. She's greeted with hugs and kisses.

"Baddy! I missed you!", Alex squeals.

"Yeah, sissy! We missed you bunches!", Laney agrees.

"It's been one night!"

"They really did miss you, though.", Nick tells her as he wraps his arms around her and kisses her forehead.

"It looks great in here, honey!", Olivia says as she scans the room. "Jaden must be great with decorating."

"Actually, I did it. Well, most of the decorating, anyways.", she walks them to the living room. "So, I kind of need to tell you something before you meet Jaden..", Bradley fumbles with her fingers and sits down, they all do the same.

"What is it?", Olivia asks. Laney and Alex went to explore the rest of the apartment.

"Well..", she starts. "Jaden is-", she got cut off by Laney screaming. They all jump up and go to the kitchen where the kids and Jaden are all standing. The kids run to Olivia and Nick who gasp in surprise. "..This is Jaden!", she goes over to him and holds his hand.

"But he's a boy!", Laney yells.

"I know that."

"Told you.", Olivia nudges Nick who's gritting his teeth.

Jaden extends his hand. "I was hoping to meet you all differently.", he smiles. They all shake hands and introduce themselves.

They got the kids calmed down and less hyper and set up at the table. Bradley and Jaden sat on the ends of the table. Olivia and Alex were on either side of Jaden, and Nick and Lanet were next to Bradley. Nick was clearly annoyed with the fact that Bradley lied and is sleeping in the same house with a man he's never met before, but made an effort to keep his composure. Olivia on the other hand was all smiles. She saw this coming, though she, too, is disappointed with her daughter's choice.

The kids were a different story. Alex and Laney thought Jaden was the "coolest dude ever" and even mentioned every embarrassing thing Bradley has ever done. They told Jaden about her multiple relationships that never lasted more than a few months, involving both sexes, and how she would go out with her friends and come home smelling like "grossness". By the time they got them to quit talking, Bradley was beat red and was ready to curl up in a ball until the dinner was over.

Now, it's time for Nick and Olivia to begin interrogating. They waited until the kids were in the living room watching tv before they started.

"So,", Nick starts. "you know I'm a cop, right?"

"Dad!", Bradley hits his arm.

"What?"

"Yes, sir.", Jaden responds. Nick was surprised on the 'sir' part. "And you're a lieutenant, right?", he asks Olivia.

"I am."

"What do you do?", Nick asks.

"I'm currently working part-time with my uncle in construction."

"Why part-time? Why not full-time?"

"I uh..", he looks over to Bradley.

"He has a trust fund. His parents left him enough money that he won't have to work."

"Your parents passed away?", Olivia asks sympathetically. Jade nods and looks down at the floor. "I'm so sorry."

"It's okay. Drunk driver hit them on their way to dinner."

"Anyways..", Bradley starts. "How about we not get all sappy?"

"How old are you?"

"Twenty-one.", he tells them.

That's when the conversation hit off. Nick interrogated Jaden for at least twenty minutes before coming to the conclusion that he was okay with him sleeping with his daughter, though he HATED the thought. Olivia and Bradley were in the kitchen cleaning up while they talked.

"Why didn't you tell us, Bradley?"

"Because I knew you guys wouldn't like it."

"So you lied?", Olivia asks as she rinses off another plate.

"..Yeah."

Olivia sighs. "I'm gonna assume you're sleeping with him."

"Mom!"

"What?"

"I'm not talking about my sex life with you.", Bradley says matter-of-factly.

"You have, haven't you?"

"Well obviously, he definitely didn't sleep on the couch last night."

"You're using protection, though, right?"

"Mom!", she hit her arm. "I told you, I'm not talking about it."

"So you're not?"

"No, we aren't.", she sighs. "Are you and dad?",  she asks sarcastically.

"No, dad and are married."

Bradley's gags. "That was a rhetorical question. I don't want to know what happens in your bedroom, I'm not sure why you want to know what happens in mine."

"Because I'm your memo."

"All the more reason you shouldn't know.", Bradley drains the dish water and dries her hands off, handing the hand towel to Olivia so she can too. "I miss being at home ."

"After a night? You can come home whenever, you know?"

"I think I'm good. I'd much rather sleep next to the man I love instead of going back."

"Wow, thanks!", Olivia acts offended and playfully slaps her with the towel. They both laugh. "You really like him, huh?"

"No, mom. I love him. Maybe I should've brought him home to meet you guys, but I didn't want dad to scare him off.", she chuckles. "I mean, he's just so..you know..", she couldn't think of the words, so she changed the subject. "He begged me to meet you."

"Really?"

"Yep. Said 'they are your family, I want to meet the people that made you so perfect'. I mean, who says that, right?"

"Yeah. You wanna tell me when you started breaking the law..with him?"

"We didn't. We started dating when I was seventeen, it was a few months before my birthday, and he had just turned nineteen."

"Promise?"

"Yes, mom, I promise. He wouldn't even kiss me until like a week after I turned seventeen. Something about 'not taking advantage of a woman and being sexually involved with someone you just met' and stuff.", Bradley said, smiling. "His words, not mine."
