Chapter 58

08:45, 12 May 2015

*Emma's POV*

I walked into the house, after saying goodbye to Maddie. She didn't have time to come in again, so she left. I went to the living room and saw dad pacing around nervously, looking at his phone.

"Hey dad" I said. He was looking at his phone and didn't look up.

"Hi. How was school? There's a snack in the kitchen, if you want to eat something. Will you give Toria her bottle, it's past her feeding time. The kids are upstairs playing" he mumbled.

"Dad, are you okay?" I asked him. His phone rang at that moment and he answered.

"Is she okay? Did she wake up?" he asked.

"Yeah, it happened once before, but she should've been awake by now... I can't come now, I'm with the kids... Okay I'll arrange something... call me if she wakes up. Bye" he said and hung up the phone.

"What the hell is going on?" I asked, "Where's mom?"

Dad gave me a sad, toothless smile.

"Mom's in the hospital" he said.

"What happened to her? Is she okay?"

"She collapsed"

"She's fine, though, right?" I asked. I was starting to panic.

"It happened once before and she should be fine" dad said.

"Should be? What's that supposed to mean?"

"Yeah, she hasn't woken up yet, though, but she should wake up, soon" he said.

I started crying. This can't be happening right now. I needed her, badly. Dad tried to comfort me, but he was very worried himself.

"What's going on here?" Matt asked. He just came down the stairs, carrying Toria. She was crying, so I took her and fed her a bottle. Matt sat down next to me on the couch.

"What's going on? Where's mama, by the way?"

"She's in the hospital" I cried. Matt looked shocked.

"What? Why?" he whispered. There was a knock on the door and Marissa came in.

"You can go. I'll take care of the kids" she said to dad. She looked very worried, too. Dad nodded and took his car keys.

"Can I come with you?" I asked.

"Not now, tiger. Once everything's fine you can come, but she actually can't have visitors right now" he said.

"But she's my mom" I cried. Dad hugged me and I felt the top of my head get wet. Guess dad was crying, too.

"I know, sweetie. And I hope she'll be home soon, but you can't come now. I'm really sorry" he whispered. I just nodded and he left. I sat back down in the couch next to Matt. He cried himself to sleep and I caressed his cheek. I was still holding Toria, but she also fell asleep, so I brought her to bed.

"Look at this, Emma" Rose said, when I walked past their room. I looked inside and saw that they were playing with their dolls. Obviously.

"That's nice, beauties" I said and turned to leave their room again.

"What's wrong?" Millie asked, "Why you crying?"

I looked at her and Rose and they looked back. Then Rose stood up and ran to me. She hugged me tightly.

"It's gonna be okay, right?" she asked, "That mama always says when someone cry"

I bent down to her level and Millie came standing next to her.

"Yes, babies. It'll be alright" I said, trying to convince myself more then them.

"What happened?" Rosie asked.

"Mama had to go to the hospital" I said.

"She having a baby?" Millie asked.

"No sweetie, she's not"

"Then why she in the hospital?" she asked.

"She fainted" I said.

"What's that?" Rose asked.

"You'll understand one day" I said.

"Same as Matt?" Millie asked.

"No, it's not the same as why happened to Matt"

"She gonna be home soon?" Rose asked.

"I hope so, sweetie. I really, really hope so" I said. They both hugged me and went back to their game. I went back downstairs and got myself a cup of water. Marissa was in the kitchen, on the phone.

"Okay, let me know when she wakes up" she said and hung up. It looked like she'd been crying, too. She saw me standing there and gave me a hug.

"It's gonna be okay, Emma. Everything will be fine" she said.

"You're trying to tell yourself the same thing" I replied.

"Says who?" she asked.

"Cause you don't know if it's gonna be okay. No one knows if it's gonna be okay. It's just the thing you say, cause you have nothing else to say, but you don't know if it's actually true" I said, "When my dad and sister were in a coma, the doctors also said it was gonna be okay, but was it? No, it wasn't. They both died. It's just a thing everyone says, hoping it's true. But it isn't. It's bullshit. It's just something you hope, but you're not sure about" I was crying uncontrollably right now and Marissa hugged me tighter. She was also crying.

"I'm sorry" she said.

"That's okay" I said. I handed her a glass of water and we both calmed down.

"Where's Dave?" I asked.

"He's by Dallas and Rob" she said, "I dropped him off there, before I came here"

"Do they know?" I asked.

"Yes, they do"

"How long ago did it happen?"

"This morning, a few minutes after she woke up" she said.

"And she still didn't wake up?"

"No"

"Is that normal? Why did she faint?"

"She had this a few years ago, also. She had a headache and was dizzy, then she fainted. The doctors did a lot of tests on her, but didn't find anything that could be the cause of it"

"But she would've been awake by now, wouldn't she?"

"Yeah, she would" Marissa said.We just stood there in silence.

"Let's sit down on the couch" she said. We both sat down and watched a movie, to get our minds off of things. Matt woke up and snuggled into me. A few minutes later the girls came down.

"We having dinner yet? We hungry" they asked.

"Sure" Marissa said. She ordered pizza and we all sat down and ate.It was kinda fun. We didn't think about mom, we just sat and enjoyed ourselves.Marissa went to put the girls to bed, but they both wanted mom to nurse them, cause mom always did before they went to sleep. I thought it was really nice of mom to nurse Millie, even tough it wasn't her real daughter. My mom was still nursing her, when she died, so it was very hard for Millie to stop like that. She did have to stop soon, though. She's already two.

Marissa and I didn't know what to do.

"Do you want a bottle?" I asked them.

"I want mama milk" Rose said.

"But mama's not here now" I said.

"So you give us" she said.

"I can't, baby" I laughed. Marissa laughed, too.

"Why not?" Millie asked.

"Cause I don't have any milk to give you" I said.

"And you Rissa?" Rose asked, "You have milk?"

"There's milk in the fridge" I suggested, knowing Marissa still nursed Dave. She probably didn't wanna nurse Rose and Millie, though.

"It's like mama milk" I said.

"I don't want any" Millie said, "I just wait for mama"

"Me too" Rose said.

"Okay, good night, beauties. Sleep well" I said, as me and Rissa left the room.

"I wouldn't mind nursing them" Rissa said "They're like my own"

"Come on, you're not gonna nurse them. Their gonna have to learn to stop soon anyways"

"Okay, maybe you're right" she said. I put Toria back to bed, after she ate and went down to sent Matt to bed. As much as he didn't want to, he had to go to school tomorrow. After Marissa told him a story, she came down and we talked. We didn't realize what time it was, till we heard the door open.Dad was home. Without mom.

"How is she?" I asked.

"Still hasn't woke up" he sighed.

"Is she ever?" I whispered.

"I hope so, tiger. Let's get you to bed now. You're tired. Everything will be alright. Don't worry" he kissed my forehead and send me upstairs. I sat on my bed, silently crying. Oh mama, if only you'd wake up already.
