Chapter 9 Mae's pov
10:04, 18 January 2022"He's here to learn from past mistakes. Everyone is allowed to make them, even the people on the team. He has agreed to work with the team on their terms showing his willingness to help, that should be enough reason. If you don't trust him just yet, trust them." I say staring directly at the reporter, who shrunk back in his seat a bit before nodding. I smile wider as I look around the crowd.
"Who are you?" a female reporter asked snarkily from my left. I turn my head to look at her and put my sweet smile on before answering her.
"My name is Lucifer or Luci, whichever you prefer. I am one of the new members of the Avengers."
"And why exactly should we care about what are dumb little girl like you thinks?" A male reporter asks with a laugh from the middle of the room. I heard the movement of the team from behind me, but held up my hand to stop them. The sound stops, so I slip into my honey tone, knowing the exact effects it has on most humans.
"Because these are your superheroes, and you want them to have all the help they can get to help keep you safe. This comes in the form of the women you see before you. Is there anything else you wish to know sir?" I smile at him, really driving my power across the room.
All of the reporters put their hands up at once and then collectively ask if they can have my number. I giggle at them, receiving a collective sigh from the crowd, before answering in the sweet tone still.
"I'm sorry I have my hands full at the moment. I'm very flattered, thank you all. I think that's all the time we have for today, but I can't wait to speak with all of you again soon. Good day." I point for the team to leave the stage as I speak, them all exiting just as I finish. I exit the stage as the crowd claps. I look at the faces of the team and giggle at their surprised expressions. I simply walk past them and wave to them as the elevator doors close.
I get back to my room and ask Friday for new dress inspirations since I don't want to wear the one I picked out earlier. I take my makeup off and wash my face while we look, finally finding the Mohican Rose Bloom Gown. I leave the image up as I change my hair from being down to a fishtail braid around the crown of my head, the rest left down falling in red ringlets to my lower back.
I use my powers to do dramatic style eye makeup with a peach colored lipstick. I nod at my reflection after inspecting it before flashing out of the conference outfit. I take the bra off, laying it back on my desk since the top of this is corset style, and with a shimmer of purple the dress is on me.
I move to the mirror to look at it, already loving the color against my slightly tanned skin. I used some magic to keep the cape in place on my shoulders so I didn't have to worry about it moving. I look at the dress more, something is missing. I look for another minute before snapping my fingers. A long slit appears in the dress, running from the floor to my upper thigh. I look back in the mirror and spin once, watching as the dress and cape move with me perfectly. I snap my fingers again, a pair of peach chunky heels appear in my hand, and a small dagger in a holster appears on the inside of the thigh without the slit.
I nod and pick up my cell phone, checking the time. 6:50, perfect.
I slip on the heels, grab the new peach clutch that matches the dress and put my phone in it, along with a can of mace, just in case. I look in the mirror one last time before Friday tells me it's 7:05 and the team is asking about me.
"Tell them I'll be down in a few please." I say as I get in the elevator. I press the button for level 3 on the elevator, which is labeled 'Party Floor'. I laugh and think 'leave it to Tony Stark to have a whole floor just for parties'.
I step out of the elevator onto the landing at the top of the stairs that lead down to the actual floor of the level. I start down them, ignoring the staring of all the people, and spot the team by the bar. I walk over and order a drink, seeing as the team hasn't noticed me yet, the rest of the room still staring at me.
"Hey there pretty lady, can I buy you a drink?" A voice asks from behind me. I picked up the drink that the bartender just sat down and took a sip before replying. The rest of the party seemed to snap out when Stark started talking and went back to their conversations.
"You just did Stark, keep it in your pants." Smiling as I turn my stool around to face the group. His jaw dropped, along with the rest of the groups.
"Babydoll! You finally made it." Bucky yells coming over to me and kissing my temple, the first to recover from their shock.
"Goddamn Mae, you're helping me get ready next time. Damn girl." Nat says, making me giggle.
"You don't need my help." I reply, pointing behind her. "Trust me." she looks behind her before going red.
'He likes you, go get you some girl.' I tell her mentally, nodding at Bruce. 'Oh and tell him he forgot the negative in the 3rd line of his equation which is why it isn't working.' I add with a wink. She nods before moving toward him.
"Mae, are you old enough to drink? We already have enough issues that we can't have underage drinking as well. You only look like you're 20 at the oldest." Steve says now standing by Bucky on my right. I giggle at his team mom attitude before answering him.
"Yes, I'm actually 24, but my aging either stopped or slowed down considerably when I turned 20." He nods before he and Bucky go to talk to a group of men to the left of the dance floor. Tony leaves with Pepper, Sam and Pietro were in a heated discussion with Peter by the window, Vision and Wanda were sitting on the couch talking about something while holding hands.
Thor was sitting at the other end of the bar alone, drinking a large mug of something and looking around. We make eye contact, both having been scanning the room, before he smiles and beacons me over. I glide over to him, drink in one hand, clutch in the other, and sit on the stool beside him.
"Thank you Lady Lucifer for defending my brother. He really is trying."
"I know Thor, trust me. And you can drop the lady part." I giggle.
"As you wish Luci. now I must go find where he's hiding and get him to join the party." He says, standing up. I put my hand on his side, making him look down in question, and heal the stab wound there with a flash of purple. I nod at him and remove my hand. He says a quick thank you with a grin before going off to find his wayward brother.
