Chapter 43: Fam Bam

(Maya’s POV)

When we got home around 1 am everyone was asleep in the living room. There was a note on coffee table.

Maya and Liam,

We have more present wake us up when you get home.

The fam bam!

I laughed as I handed the note to Liam. “Should we?” I asked him. “I’m not sure, it’s late,” He sighed. “Do you think they would be upset if we didn’t wake them up?” I asked him. “Knowing them you have a 50/50 chance,” Liam chuckled. “Guys, we are back,” I said. No one moved. I repeated myself one more time, before I turned off the light and headed to my bedroom. “Em, do you have a minute?” Harry asked me.

I looked at Liam who nodded and then went to bed. “Sure,” I sighed. “I need to be honest with you,” Harry sighed. “What’s going on?” I asked him. “I’m sick,” He whispered. “Sick?” I asked him confused. “Like sick sick,” he stated.

(Liam’s POV)

I walked into Aspen’s room to tell her goodnight. When I opened the door I found her and my dad asleep in the rocking chair. “Hey, dad, I can put her to bed if you want to sleep in a bed tonight,” I whispered. He slowly woke up and looked at me. “No, I never get these moments. We’ll be okay,” he assured me. I smiled at him, I knew he was right. Him and mum miss out on many different moments with Aspen and I hate that.  I know my parents cherish every moment they get to spend with her, and I love having them here too. “Okay, good night dad,” I said. “Good night son, I love you,” he said. “I love you too,” I assured him and then turned the light back off and left the room.

I went to see if my mom was awake she usually is when she stays at our house due to my sister’s texting her asking her for pictures of Aspen every five minutes. I was sad my sisters couldn’t come for the party but I understand they have work and such. “Mum, are you awake?” I asked as I opened the door. “I sure am, just got off the phone with Ruth,” she told me. “How is she?” I asked. “Doing okay, a little stressed but you know how she gets,” My mum said. I set down the edge of the bed and just took everything that happened tonight in.

“How is she?” she asked me a few minutes later. “Terrible and I can’t fix this and it is killing me, Mum, I wish I could fix this all of it.” I groaned. “She’s a strong young lady she will make it through,” My mum hummed. “I know, but after everything I have put her through she shouldn’t have to go through this. You have no idea the pain she endured everyday for a year and a half because of me, I honestly don’t get why she stayed with me,” I explained to her.

My mum just looked at me. “Liam James Payne! Maya loves you more than life itself you heard what she said today at the party! She would do anything for you and I can’t let you sit here and think any different!”

(Maya’s POV)

“Are you going to be okay?” I asked Harry after he explained everything to me. I couldn’t believe this, why Harry? He didn’t deserve any of this. “I have to fly home for some test here soon, but I promise I’ll be fine,” Harry said trying to be in high spirits about everything. I just looked at him. His eyes were glossed over with tears and his whole body was shaking, I leaned over and hugged him. “You’ll always be my twin,” I whispered. That’s when Harry broke into tears. “I never meant to hurt you, I didn’t want to tell anyone until I had all the answers but then I missed Aspen’s party and that’s when I knew I had to tell everyone,” he cried. “You can take her out tomorrow and celebrate after Lee and I take her out. You are her favorite, she’ll love it!” I assured him. “You would let me?” He asked surprised.

I pulled away from the hug and just looked at him. “Why wouldn’t I?” I asked him. “I don’t know,” He sighed. “C’mon we all need some sleep,” I said as I patted his shoulder. “Where am I going to sleep?” He asked me. “There’s a pull away bed in my office, you can sleep there,” I told him. “You have an office?” he asked me. “Where else would I work from?” I laughed.

He just chuckled. I stopped walking when I heard Karen and Liam talking. “That sounds serious,” Harry whispered. “It sure does,” I noted. “We probably shouldn’t listen though, plus I’m exhausted,” Harry said. I nodded and lead him downstairs to my office. “This is your office?” He asked in disbelief. “Sure is! There is room for Aspen to play down here and everything I love it,” I said as I made Harry’s bed. “Do you mind if I live with you guys when I get my treatment? I mean the hospital is based in Omaha and its outpatient and I don’t want to live in a hotel,” Harry asked. “Of course, Harold, you are more than welcome to stay here and I bet your mom would prefer it that way,” I joked.  He just laughed and nodded. “Alright, there is a bathroom around the corner, and the TV report is right next to the pillow,” I told him.

“Thank you so much, Em, it means a lot,” He said with a smile. “No problem, Harold, you are my twin I have to be nice to you,” I laughed as I headed upstairs. I cleaned up a little bit around the house; I wasn’t in the mood to wake to a messy house. I didn’t like that on a normal today, and today had been from normal.  “Are you coming to bed, Love?” I heard Liam ask. “Yeah, I’ll be there in a minute,” I said.

“Do you need any help?” he asked me. “I was just trying to clean up a bit,” I told him. He walked over and pulled me into him and smile. “What do you think you are doing, Sir?” I joked as  I wrapped my arms around his neck. “This,” He smirked and then kissed me deeply.

(Liam’s POV)

The next morning Maya and I woke up to the smell of food cooking in the kitchen. “I love when your parents stay,” Maya smiled at me. I pulled her closer to me if that was possible, and kissed the top of her head. “Me too,” I smiled.

“WAKE UP!” Niall yelled as he ran into the room. “WHAT THE HECK NIALL!” Maya screamed as she jumped out of bed. “Breakfast is served!” He exclaimed. I just laughed as I got out of bed and put a plain white tshirt on and then headed to the kitchen. “This is amazing,” I said in disbelief. “Well, Paul figured you would need some good food after last night and Aspen insisted on so much food we couldn’t refuse,” Zayn chuckled as he put Aspen in her highchair. When Aspen saw me she got really excited. “Well, hello, birthday girl! Happy birthday!” I exclaimed as I kissed her forehead.

Today was Aspen’s birthday, but we had the party the day before so we could spend the day with Aspen and not have to worry about a party or anything. Soon Maya walked into the kitchen. “Well, there she is!” She sighed in relief. “Aren’t you forgetting something?” Louis asked her. “No! I couldn’t forget my daughter’s first birthday!” Maya said as she slapped his arm. “Well, I was going to say, some mother you are,” he joked.  Everyone stopped talking and just stared at Harry when we walked upstairs. “Good morning everyone,” Harry said trying to sound happy, but you could tell he was uncomfortable.

“Good morning, Lad! It’s great to have you back!” Niall said as he hugged him. “Okay, kids sit down! We have hot food coming your way!” My mum exclaimed as she started bringing food to the table. We all laughed and gathered around the dining room table.

(Maya’s POV)

I wanted to spend a little time alone with Maya and Liam on her birthday so the three of us went out for the day. “I can’t believe that brat is already a year,” Liam sighed. “What a great father you are,” I joked as I playful hit his arm. “Careful or I won’t let last night repeat itself,” He joked. “What part of last night?” I asked him.

I changed the radio waiting for him to reply. I looked over and he just chuckled to himself, I finally got his hint. “That’s okay, I know other men,” I hummed. “WHAT?!” He cried. “Lee, chill I was kidding,” I laughed. Honestly I couldn’t stop laughing. “That’s not funny, Maya! Seriously why the hell would you joke about something like that? Do you think its funny? Is that what you prefer!?” Liam yelled. Aspen starting screaming after being frightened by Liam raising his voice, I looked back at Aspen and then back at Liam. I didn’t say anything, I turned back to Aspen to give her sippy cup and a toy. “It’s okay, beetle bug,” I assured her. She slowly calmed down and I smiled at her.

Aspen was my whole world.  I couldn’t imagine a life without her, and even though it has been far from easy I wouldn’t have it any other way. Liam was mumbling something under his breath angrily about missing his exit and I was so stressed out and frustrated I start to cry.

“Why are you crying now?” Liam snapped. “Just turn around and go home please. I’ll just spend time with Aspen there. This was obviously a bad idea and you are not in the mood for it,” I sighed. “We are spending the day as a family,” Liam stated as he took the next exit. “Liam, look at us we are mess!” I cried.

I noticed Liam kept looking back in the mirror at Aspen. “What are you doing?” I asked him starting to get worried. “Did she have all those bumps when you gave her juice?” He asked me sounding worried. “What bumps?” I asked him confused. “I’ll pull into this gas station and we can get her out of her seat and look at her and decide what to do,” He said. No matter how mad I am at Liam when it comes to Aspen he is the greatest dad out there, he knows exactly how to handle mostly everything, and stays calm when I’m freaking out.

Aspen started to cough and cry as he pulled in. “It’s okay, cupcake, Daddy is going to fix everything,” Liam said as he parked the car and got out to look at Aspen.  I waited for him to look at the bumps,  I knew he would be able to get a better look since he was more relaxed then I was. “What are they?” I asked him. “I’m not sure, Em, I think we should get her checked out to be on the safe side,” Liam said.

I looked back at my poor daughter. You could tell she was very uncomfortable. “The hospital is only 15 minutes away, she’ll be okay,” Liam assured me. He gave Aspen her blanket and Lambie, her stuffed lamb from Doc McStuffens, and got back in his seat to drive to Children’s Hospital. “Was she acting different yesterday?” Liam asked me. You could tell he was trying to put together the puzzle of where this rash might have come from. “Well, she did sleep more and had cough,” I pointed out. “Did she really eat anything at her party?” He asked me. “No, and when I gave her juice she would drink it but cried,” I told her. “I just assumed there was so much going on she didn’t want to sit down and eat, and the juice was a new kind I was trying. You know how picky she is,” I told him.

I loved the kind of father Liam had become, I have never had to worry about him leaving Aspen a stray even on his worse days. He is always team Aspen and does whatever it takes to make sure she is taken care of in the best way possible. I couldn’t imagine a better dad for Aspen, she’s one lucky little girl and she doesn’t even know it yet.

(Liam’s POV)

My heart raced as I drove to the hospital I had never seen a rash on Aspen like this before she has had her fair share of allergic reactions but this does not look like one of those. I looked back at her in the rear view mirror she had finally cried herself to sleep, I was hoping Maya would stay calm or at least try too. Being a parent is the scariest job you could ever sign up for but it’s the best job at the same time. Five more minutes it’s close but so far away. “How are you doing babe?” I looked over and asked Maya. She looked at me as if she saw a ghost. “Em, it’s going to be okay, I promise,” I assured her has a grabbed her hand. “I sure hope so.” She whispered.

Well hello guys! I know what are you thinking “WHY ARE YOU MAKING HARRY SICK!?!” am I right? Or does it go something like this. “WHY IS LIAM THE CUTEST DAD IN THE WORLD?!” One or the other? None? Oh well this might be awkward, anyways! I hope you guys enjoyed this. I am trying to write as much as I can, but I picked up a ton of shifts for the next two weeks, and it’s crazy with trying to get ready for Christmas!
