Chapter 36: Fears
09:36, 29 September 2014(Maya’s POV)
24 hours until the wedding.
“Alright are we just doing simple rows down the aisle?” Stacey asked. We stood there staring where the wedding would take place. “I think so,” I said unsure. “There are other ways we can do it,” Stacey informed us. “How else can we do it?” Liam asked. The rehearsal dinner was in 5 hours and we had to get the seating set up before that.
“Well, we can put you guys in the middle and have the chairs around it,” Stacey said. “I like that, anything?” Liam asked. We went over the other options before we decided on having everyone surround us. “Alright, let’s get this going!” Stacey called out. The staff came out and started setting up chairs and we went through other details.
“Now, we need to make sure everyone knows where they are suppose to be tomorrow morning and at what time,” Stacey said. “Don’t worry each member of the wedding party plus or parents got a planner with every detail in it.” I told her. She smiled at me. “They need all the help they can get,” Liam joked.
(Harry’s POV)
“Zayn, I thought you would be the first one to get married,” Niall said as we ate our lunch. “Ha-Ha, Nialler, you are so funny I forgot to laugh,” Zayn said dryly. “But still why is Liam the first one to get married?” Louis asked. “What does that mean for us?” I asked. It finally hit us, after tomorrow everything would be different. We always knew what it was like to have a girlfriend but one of us having a wife was totally different thing. “Things won’t change between us, guys, you know Liam won’t allow that,” Niall assured us.
(Bri’s POV)
Our plane had just boarded I couldn’t believe we actually got the okay to go to the wedding. “Well, this is sure a long flight,” Chase complained. “Just sleep and it will be over before you know it,” I mumbled. “You know I can’t sleep on planes,” he growled. “No I didn’t know that, sorry for suggesting it,” I snapped. I turned away from him and stared out the window, it was going to be a long flight.
I don’t know why but ever since last night when I got back from work he had been acting different. I couldn’t help but wonder if he realized he still had feelings for Maya and he didn’t know how to act. I knew he always had feeling for her, but he never acted on them. Maya always like him as well, but they never did anything about it, not even after Carter died, when we all thought they would.
I always wondered why she didn’t, I mean I loved Carter and all but Chase was a better guy than Carter could ever have been, I mean Chase and Maya had a thing when Carter asked her out. It wasn’t anything major but Chase had gave Maya her number one day at lunch and they were texting for awhile before Carter and Maya got super close and Carter asked her out.
Chase always told everyone it was no big deal and that Maya should be with Carter not him, but I always knew he was really hurt about how everything happened. Everyone grew to love Carter and Maya as a couple. The captain of the cheer squad dating the football teams secret weapon, it was the dream couple. Little did anyone know what really on when the doors were shut. Maya struggled with the thought of Carter not being happy to tell her how he truly felt and when he did it was never anything super romantic. They seemed like the perfect couple, but they really weren’t.
Maya told me things that she didn’t want to tell anyone else, she was scared to open up about her fears that her and Carter wouldn’t make it, but the summer they got engaged everything seemed to turn around. Maya didn’t worry about them not making it anymore and they even moved in together. It didn’t take them long to get engaged two days after he graduated high school he popped the question at a family dinner. Their families were thrilled beyond belief. Maya’s apartment became their first home.
I never really knew what changed in Carter or why he proposed so fast. I knew Maya once thought they wouldn’t make it while he was away at college, but she never told him that. He always told her nothing would change between them and he would visit as often as possible.
“Bri, I’m going to the bathroom,” Chase said pulling back to reality. “Okay,” I nodded. I noticed he had left his phone behind. When I picked it up it was unlocked and it looked like he had been trying to get aloud of Maya.
I couldn’t help myself but to read them, and as I read each one it broke my heart even more. I was impressed Maya never replied back to any of them but she did tell him to stop a time or two, but she never replied to any of his questions. When I heard Chase coming I set his phone back down and tried to look happy to see him.
“That bathroom is tiny, babe, you would hate it,” He said as he set down. He planted a kiss on my check and I flashed a smile at him. “I’ll remember that,” I said.
(Maya’s POV)
We got the chairs set up and went to get lunch. “Didn’t you tell the guys you would meet them for lunch?” I asked Liam. “Paul said to meet them on the golf course around 1,” he told me. “Oh gotcha,” I nodded. ‘Are you trying to get rid of me?” He joked. “No, I just thought you guys had plans,” I told him. Liam grabbed my hand and we headed to pick up for food. “Do you and girls have plans for today?” He asked me. “Yeah, we are going to get our nails done and get facials,” I told him. “Eww, sounds girly.” Liam whined. “Well, yes, babe, it is, that’s why I didn’t invite you,” I laughed.
I couldn’t help but smile. Tomorrow I would marry my best friend and I couldn’t wait to say I do. “Maya, did you ever want out of our relationship?” Liam asked me. His question caught me completely off guard. I stopped walking and let go of his hand as I slowly turned to face him. “Why the heck would you ask that?” I asked him.
He just stared blankly at me. “Why the heck would I ever want that, Liam?” He asked me. “I’m not sure, I just had to know okay,” he sighed. “Liam, I could never imagine life without you, even when times got tough I didn’t want to run away,” I assured him.
He just looked at me. “Lee, don’t do this, we are about to get married! We shouldn’t be fighting over stupid things like this.” I smiled at him. “When were you going to tell me about your little thing with Chase?” he asked me.
“Who told you?” I asked him. “He text you one morning and I didn’t mean to read it, I thought your phone was my phone. I mean they were sitting right next to each other and I just grabbed it I was half asleep.” Liam said he couldn’t even look me in the eyes. I felt my heart drop to my stomach.
“Liam, that thing with Chase was something that meant nothing I thought I needed someone after Carter died that’s all that was. Trust me I never even loved him, I guess we both just kind of used each other to feel happy again,” I told him. He looked at me finally, you could see the pain in his eyes. “Lee, you have to believe me there when I say there is no one I want to be with. I want to be with you no one else never ever. I have done some things in my past that I’m not proud of, but that doesn’t change how I feel about you.” I told him.
He stared at me with a smile slowly appearing on his face. “What?” I asked with a laugh. “I’ve been waiting for you to say that this past couple days,” he admitted. “Well, it’s true and I’m glad you finally heard it.” I said as I stepped closer to give him a kiss.
(Harry’s POV)
“Do they kiss all the time or does it just seem that way?” Serra asked as we passed Liam and Maya. “I’m pretty sure they do it all the time,” I sigh. “Everything okay, Haz?” She asked me. No everything is not okay, but I wouldn’t tell her that. “Yeah, everything is fine,” I lied. I couldn’t tell her why was I upset, I barely knew this girl. I mean we were friends but we aren’t super close or anything. “You’re lying!” She said as laughed. “How do you know?” I asked her. “Because you can’t stop staring at Liam and Maya, “ she pointed out. Shoot. Shoot. Shoot. Was it really that obvious? I don’t know what it was, but I couldn’t help but think that after this wedding tomorrow the band would be officially changed. The thought of one us being married just is something I can’t wrap my brain around.
“You can tell me, Harry, I won’t tell anyone,” Serra told me. “It’s nothing,” I mumbled. I couldn’t tell Maya’s cousin how I felt what if it got back to Maya, she would obviously tell Liam and that would cause so much drama I didn’t even want to think about it. I was the “baby” of the band and that made everything believe I wasn’t as mature as the other guys. I hated that, honestly I just like to have fun and what’s wrong with that?
(Niall’s POV)
“Liam is here getting married,” Louis sighed. I nodded after lunch I couldn’t stop thinking about what Harry said. Was he right? Was this the start of the end for One Direction? We always said we would start families when we were done as a band, but we were bigger than ever, he can’t just leave us now. “Cheer up, guys,” Paul said. “You guys are acting like your mum died or something,” he added. Louis and I looked at each other and shrugged. “It’s just a new chapter in the One Direction Story our family is gaining a new family member, that’s pretty exciting. We all love Maya and now you get to be a part of one of your best friend’s wedding. That’s pretty amazing just think of how far you all have come and what you guys have gone through together. The five of you are brothers and nothing will tear you guys apart, you shouldn’t be feeling down and worrying about the band being torn apart you should be very happy for Liam and be there to support him, that’s what brothers do.” Paul said.
(Maya’s POV)
After we ate lunch Liam went to find the guys and I headed back to our room to freshen up before I left for town. I couldn’t believe we were going to get married tomorrow, it felt so unreal that I was getting to Liam Payne. He became my everything is so little time it was crazy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
There was a note on the door. I pulled it off and went inside. I set down on the bed and read the note.
Maya,
I can’t believe we are getting married tomorrow, it seems so crazy. I am beyond ready for us to be married, I can’t wait to be able to call you my wife. You are my everything, my world, my soul mate, my true love, my best friend, you are so much more than just Maya Hudson to me. I consider myself very lucky to have picked you out in the proud that night. We have been through so much that I know you would never leave me when times get rough. You still with me no matter what, sure we have our share of fights, but what couple doesn’t? I needed to tell you I don’t care what happened in your past, even though I love the person it made you. I can’t say too much I don’t want to ruin my vows tomorrow.
Have a fun girls day, love you to the milky way and back and there again,
Liam.
Tears filled in my eyes, I reread the note over and over again before there was a knock at my door. “Come in!” I yelled I set the note on the nightstand. “Where have you been? Why haven’t you been answering your phone?” My mom questioned as she walked through the door. “Nice to see you too, mom,” I sighed. “We are going to late, is everything okay?” She asked me. “Yeah, sorry I just got sidetracked,” I said as I got off the bed. She looked at my face and studied it for a minute. “Have you been crying?” she asked me. “Yeah, but happy tears, mom, I promise,” I said as I picked up the note and handed it to her.
She took it from me and read. I watched as a smile appeared on her face. “You know, sweetie, I never thought its was going to work, but you two proved me wrong and I’m so happy Liam will be officially joining our family tomorrow.” She as she handed the folded up paper to me. “Me too, mom, I never knew if it was going to work either,” I confessed. “But it did and now we are here in this beautiful place, getting ready to celebrate one of the special days of your life, we can be all teary eyed, we need to happy.” She said.
I hugged her. I couldn’t tell you the last time I had a moment like this with my mom. It felt overdue. I miss being only five minutes away from my parents house, I wish I lived closer I wanted to be closer to them again. But I didn’t know if I was ever going to be able too.
(Chase’s POV)
“We are going to get there super late,” I groaned. This flight was taken forever and I wasn’t going to get much sleep when we got there before we had to wake up and get ready for the wedding. “I know, you’ve said it over and over again,” Bri sighed. “Maybe I should have just stayed home,” I sighed as I tried to get comfortable. “Maybe, you should just shut up!” she yelled. Everyone just looked at us. “Way to go,” I groan. “Don’t talk to me,” she whined.
(Flashback)
“Maya! Maya! Where the heck are you?!” I cried. The power had just went out in Maya’s apartment and Maya ran off and hid somewhere. “You will never find me!” She called out. “Really? Are you sure about that?” I called out. I heard her giggle as I made my way to her bedroom. It’s probably a good thing I’ve been spending a lot of time over here or I wouldn’t be able to find my way around in the dark. “BOO!” she cried out as I walked into her room. I jumped back. “Holy crap, Emmy! You gave me a heartache!” I gasp. She giggled as she wrapped her arms around me. “You know, Carter, probably hates us now,” she said. I didn’t say anything, how could I be doing this with my best friend’s fiancé. I mean I know he had died but that had to be breaking the Bro Code or something.
“Don’t tell anyone but I think I love you,” She whispered as she kissed me.
(End of flashback)
I looked over at Bri would had somehow managed to fall asleep, I felt bad for hurting her but I can’t get Maya off my mind, and now I had to go watch her get married. I didn’t know if I was going to be able to do that. Maya was supposed to be with me, not Carter. I had her first, but when she chose Carter over me I had to pretend like it didn’t bother me, when it really did. But that’s how it always worked Carter got the girl. In a sick twisted way I was happy Maya finally picked me, but in the end she ran when it became real.
I hated the way she just stopped talking to me and told me to stay away from her. I had no choice but to, even though I had to deal with seeing her face in every magazine and tabloid there was. I guess it’s a big deal when a famous boy band member dates a fan he pulls from the crowd.
I look at my phone. When I unlocked it my messages were open, I knew I closed all my apps so my phone wouldn’t die. Did Bri really go through my phone? I mean I have nothing to hide, but why would she go through it? That doesn’t seem like her.
Maya: Hope you guys are close! Can’t wait to see you, Chasister!
Chase: We are about to land.
Maya: Oh good!
Chase: don’t tell anyone but I think I love you…
(Maya’s POV)
I was getting ready for the rehearsal dinner when there was a knock at my door. “Come in!” I chimed. “Babe, I got a hole in one!” Liam cried. I ran over and hugged him as tight as I could. I looked up and smiled at him. “Congrats!” I cheered. He smiled as he titled his head down and kissed me. “I would love to see where this goes, but we have a rehearsal to get ready for,” I joked as I pulled away from him. “You never let me have any fun!” Liam cried. “Maybe tomorrow night,” I joked. “Yeah, that better happen,” Liam said as he walked into the bathroom. “Hurry in the shower, I need to do my hair!” I called out.
*Well, drama has set in, what will happen when Chase sees Maya? Will Bri and Maya become best friends again? Will Harry’s fear of One Direction spilt come true? Will the wedding be everything Maya has ever dreamed off? Will there be a happily ever after?
I can’t wait for you guys to see what happens next! XOXO!*
