They say she's a deterrent.
They classify her as a military weapon.
Some believe she's an unreliable asset.
And most regard her as a monster.
But truthfully she's only human. As human as any of us really.
And being human meant making mistakes.
Being human is doing the wrong thing for the right reason.
Being human is doing everything possible to ensure your friends, family and community are safe.
The girl is apart of the Survey Corps - the dogs of the military.
A bitter chuckle, too dark for a child, was swallowed at the thought. But it's true.
Kaminari Moriko landed safely on an uneven tree branch, scanning the expansive forest. It appeared almost calm with no titans in sight. She couldn't stay long, there was work to do.
Using her 3dmg - 3 dimensional manoeuvre gear, henceforth 3dm gear - using the grappling wires to sling herself from tree to tree in search of a titan. The first one she came across was revolting, making her skin crawl and her face unknowingly scowls at the sight of the grotesque being.
It wasn't anything special, standing at ten metres tall. It mostly resembled a male with short brown hair, dead brown eyes and a fat bulging stomach. But the most unnerving aspect of this being was the disgusting permanent smile etched onto it's face.
Kaminari's hands quickly find their way to her swords, clipping in a fresh set simultaneously before using the wires to manoeuvre in front of the tian at neck breaking speed. Pressing a button on the handle of her weapons, releasing compressed gas from the canister for extra speed, plunging the deadly blades into the eyes of the beast. Blood spraying over my small eight year old body like a canvas.
The titan let out a deafening screech. Hands flew towards it's face to swat at the annoying girl. She retracted the blades from the eyeballs as they began healing themselves. Steam poured out of the eyeballs as they knitted themselves together. Titans were fascinating.
Kaminari couldn't ponder on it as another hand came towards her, and quickly swung around to it's neck, slashing through flesh, then using the wires to pull her to the safety of the trees.
The creature fell with a thud. Kaminari grabbed a handkerchief from the inside of her green cloak with the wings of freedom symbol on the back, wiping her face clean of the sweat when all of the sudden a deafening crash echoes. The ground shakes for a second before the forest is covered in a blanket of silence.
Expelling gas and using the wires, Kaminari raced up to the highest point at the top of the tree she was on. She placed a hand to the bark, not believing what she was seeing. Her body frozen, numb at the sight. Her throat and mouth felt dry leaving her gaping like a fish out of water, as she tried to comprehend the chaos in the distance.
Wall Maria had been breached.
She didn't want to believe it. A gigantic titan made entirely of muscle kicked a hole in the wall without looking strained in anyway. Kaminari was living in a nightmare, pinching her arms to try wake. It was no use, this was real.
This can't be happening. This can't be happening. This can't be happening. This can't be happening- FOCUS. We a soldiers, weapons of the military. Pull yourself together!
Kaminari made a mad dash to the wall.
The eight year old flew through the trees going into autopilot towards her homeland, just beyond Wall Maria. The number of titans in the area seemed to increases dramatically with ever second that passed.
But like a rock in water they didn't come anywhere near Kaminari, continuing to flow around her and avoiding close proximity at all costs. She used it to her advantage, taking the most direct path through the kilometres of forest as fast as possible, towards the breach in Wall Maria.
As the adrenaline continued to course through her veins, she feel the need to move at a quicker pace than what her 3dm gear would allow. She landed land on a branch, checking the canisters. They were almost empty. She closed her eyes, letting out the breath as she cut her hand on a small knife, allowing the transformation to take place.
Enormous white wings protrude from her back, emerging through the slits in her cloak. The have a wingspan was a decent size as they stretched to their full potential. She quickly tucked her blonde hair into the hood of the green cloak, setting it on the crown of her head to hide her face.
Her whole body feels lighter, as though she could walk on air. Which she basically could. Kaminari rolled her shoulders before taking off into mass of chaos and destruction, killing any Titan who got in her way.
As Kaminari entered the Shinganshina district just inside Wall Maria, a woman was bitten in half. Blood spurting from the mouth of the beast as a boy and girl was being carried away by a soldier. Young boy screamed out to the deceased woman.
Kaminari held her blades balanced in her palms as she sliced through the nose of the monstrous titan. She lifted her head to see the boy being dragged away by someone from the Garrison regiment, before heading towards the boats where majority of civilians would evacuate to.
The green hood stayed up as she flew through the air, tumbling and spinning around titans, left and right. As the docks came into view, there was an older man and a young boy around her age getting chased by a eight metre titan.
Kaminari was quick to dispatch it before heading towards them. The boy was crying as his grandfather, she assumed, was consoling him. She landed opposite them, checking for any large wounds.
The boy rubes his cheek as he studied her. "Are you an angel?" It was an innocent question in itself and Kaminari didn't blame him in his assumption. A small smile to graced her face, as she sheathed her blades. "I don't think I'm an angel. I'm just here to help."
He ponders over this for a second before smiling brightly. "No matter what you say, you will always be my guardian angel." Kaminari let out a small chiming laugh. She was very flattered. "If that's what you want but for now, let's just get you out of here. Okay?"
"My name's Armin Arlert and this is my grandad." The boy introduced himself, arm around his grandfather. "What should I call you, angel?"
"You can just call me angel for now." Kaminari said shaking her head at his antics. He's just a kid like me, he shouldn't be in this situation. "Come on, let's go."
She guided the grandad and boy to the boats where guards were stopping people from entering the boats. There were just too many people and not enough boats. They weren't built to evacuate the entire population within this wall all at once.
"Grandad are we going to die?" Armin shrieks out, clutching his grandad's arm in terror. His grandad remained quiet, not wanting to give him the answer as Kaminari grabs their arms and drags them forward. "You aren't going to die. Come on, follow me."
Kaminari shoved though to the front of the cue with Armin and his grandad in tow. Civilians made way for them to pass to avoid getting hit by the strong wings, while others just step aside to marvel at the sight.
Kaminari didn't look at anymore faces in the line, not wanting to cave under their stares. She reached over and grabbed the guard and pulling him down to whisper sweet little threatsinto his ear, also allowing him to get a clear view of her face. The threat and sudden realisation of who he was speaking to, made the guard involuntarily shiver. He allowed them to enter the last boat.
Kaminari turned on heel, faintly hearing Armin shout out to her. "We'll meet again, Angel, just you wait. One day I'll find you! Stay safe!"
She threw a wave over her shoulder, not trusting herself to turn around incase she met the gaze of those left behind. She dropped the dulled blades and clicked another set in place as another wall fell. She fought as the massacre continued, until the effort to try save the breached section was disbanded and Kaminari Moriko was the last one standing.
