Chapter 12: A Way Out

Loki's P.O.V.

I cannot believe that Elizabeth wants to get out of the wedding. I mean any girl would want to with that monster but the fact that she is willing to practically do anything to get out of it is amazing for me. I walk back into the kitchen with a smirk on my face.

"What was that all about?" Natasha asked.

"Nothing, Elizabeth had to prove to Stark that she is old enough to take care of herself." I lied.

"Then why did she need you?" Natasha asked.

"Because she needed someone's opinion, and since I was the only person not gossiping behind her back I seemed to be the most trustworthy option." As soon as I said that Steve's face went red and he looked down almost ashamed while everyone else seemed to nod and look guilty. I walked out of the kitchen to go to my room to get some notes and books to see if there was anyway to get Elizabeth out of this engagement.

Elizabeth's P.O.V.

After telling Loki I agree with his deal we decided to meet back in the lab to start finding a way out of this situation. Loki brought in ten books that seemed rather long and some notes from asgardian philosophers on engagements, marriages, and on Mad Titans, since that's what Thanos is. About two hours in Tony was bored and wanted a break, so he went to get some coffee for everyone. It was just Loki and myself.

"Quick question Elizabeth. Would you do anything to get out of this engagement?" Loki asked.

"Yes."

"So far I've only found two options in these books."

"Whatever it is I'll do it."

"I would rephrase that love because they might not be the best options."

"Why not?"

"Well the first option is to die before the wedding, then your engagement is broken and you'd be free."

"Free for a few minutes only for Hades to bring me back to life and drag me to the wedding."

"Ok, and the other option is to wed another before the wedding with Thanos."

"So then Thanos can kill my new husband, make me a widow, and then take me when I'm widowed."

"Actually there are some types of weddings which if your spouse dies you remain single for the rest of your days or you bound your souls with your spouse so you die when they die and when you come back to life they come back to life. It's fool proof."

"Are there any other options besides being wed to another guy?" Tony says walking in as he hands Loki and me our coffees.

"I'm afraid not yet Stark, besides we are not even half way through the notes and books." Loki replies.

We continue reading and reading but don't seem to find anything new. The only information I'm finding out through these books are what happened to the other titans, why people get married, and why people sleep together on their wedding nights. I pray that I never have to do anything like that with Thanos.

Luckily during our studies, no one seems to be looking for us but Thor. Thor keeps asking where Loki is, so after another three hours we had to let Loki hang out with Thor for two hours in the training room. When Loki came back he looked pissed off and Tony and I decided not to ask him what happened. We were three quarters done with research and it was three o'clock in the morning. I started to doze off but tried to stay awake and next thing I know I'm asleep.

Loki's P.O.V.

Once Elizabeth was asleep I found a blanket and put it over her. Her face looked so relax and she looked so peaceful. As soon as I noticed that I was staring I shook my head and continued to read on. Stark left a little while ago to go to sleep, but Elizabeth wanted to continue studying. I stayed with her because I don't sleep that much due to my nightmares of Thanos torturing me. Every nightmare the torturing gets worse and worse. I keep on trying to fight sleep and before I know it I'm asleep. No nightmares reach me that night. I wake up and see Elizabeth still sleeping. Like the other night when she and I fell asleep, I didn't have any nightmares. I have a theory that when she blocks off her nightmares she blocks off the nightmares of anyone else in range of herself. Interesting. As soon as I see her move and yawn, I grab a book and go back to reading like nothing happened.

Elizabeth's P.O.V.

I wake up and see Loki is still reading, but by the look of his hair he fell asleep for a little bit. I notice there is a blanket on me, and I assume that Tony put it on me for comfort since I don't get cold easily. I stretch and hear a few joints crack but shake it off and grab the closest set of notes to me. Loki and I read in a comfortable silence for about an hour till Tony waltzes in with even more coffee.

"Morning sleepy heads. Did you get any sleep?" Tony asks.

"Yes we got a little sleep." I reply before I take a sip of my steaming hot coffee.

"Find anything Liz?"

"Nope."

"How about you reindeer games?"

"Only what I told you before."

"So the only way for me to get out of this is to marry a guy before I marry Thanos? Why do I have to wed? Why can't I just live a life of adventure and freedom without being tied to someone?" I ask somewhat mad and tired.

"Liz calm down I'm sure there could be another way. Like how about running away?" Tony asked.

"I can't run away Tony, nor change my appearance they'd hunt me down, punish me, then stuff me in a white dress and veil and drag me down to the alter."

"How could they find you if you change your appearance?"

"They could use a tracking spell Stark." Loki said.

"We will find a way." Tony said.

"Tony we only have 6.5 weeks." I yelled.

"Wait I thought you said two months."

"I did but the week before the wedding I have to go to my parents and finish my portion of the the planning, and news flash I won't find a guy there."

"So you are really set in stone about marrying a different guy who you may or may not know."

"Tony, it's my only chance."

"Fine, I'll help you so you may at least have a happy wedding and life since that's my job as The Godfather."

"Tony that's not the job of The Godfather."

"Let me believe Liz." He yelled in a joking way.

"So, what are we going to do Stark?" Loki asked.

"Simple, find her a guy who will marry her."

"Tony, you know I don't know that many people right?" I said.

"Yeah, but you know at least one thousand right?"

"Tony, unlike you I'm not a rich business man who sleeps with a different woman every night and saves the world. I barely know anyone outside my family."

"That might be a slight problem. Wait I got it how about Wade?"

"NO!!!!! He is taken and is my best friend that's weird. Also don't mention Bruce Wayne, Dick, or anyone who is a hero who has practically tried to kill me."

"I got it Hercules!"

"That's my half brother and cousin you idiot!" I yelled as Loki chuckled in the background.

"I don't hear any ideas from you Loki. You got any?" Tony said.

"Like Elizabeth I don't know that many people outside my family or Asgard." Loki replied.

"I can see why." Tony mumbled.

"You two clowns keep thinking of ideas. I'm going to go change and get ready for the day because I have a feeling it's going to be a long one." I say as I start to head for the door. As soon as I'm out I take a deep breath. "Who the hell would marry a girl like me in such a short amount of time?" I ask myself. I walk to my room and shut my door and take my time because I'm not looking forward to this day one bit.
