Chapter 22 ~ Not Again
I was sitting in a tree, we were now on Mirkwood’s border and I’m glad to be home. The woods are my safe haven and I’ve been deprived of my thinking time for quite a while now. It’s nice just to be able to relax without the worry of someone coming to get you for interrogation or something trying to attack you. No worry’s just relaxation.
“Eda are you up there?” I heard Legolas ask from the bottom of the tree.
“Yeah I’m up here.”
I heard him climbing the tree and soon enough his heads popped up next to mine. He positioned himself next to me and looked up at the stars.
“They are beautiful aren’t they?” he asked me.
I also looked up at the star lit sky, “Yes beautiful and mysterious,” I told him.
“Just like you,” this took me by surprise.
I turned onto my side so I could get a better look at him, “what’s that supposed to mean?”
He smiled and turned himself so he could look me in the eyes, “You are beautiful Eda,” he tells me bringing a calloused hand up to my face.
“But you also said I was mysterious,” I reminded him.
He pulled his hand back which made me frown, “Well you are. I feel like I know so much about you but in reality I don’t.”
“Well then what do you want to know?” I asked.
“What happened while you were at the camp?” he asked quietly.
I moved so I was laying on my back again looking into the never ending sky. I sighed, “My whole life has been a complete lie pretty much.” I closed my eyes preparing myself to tell the story that still had missing pieces.
“The leader of the bandit group is my father, and Melui is his son and my brother,” Legolas nodded but didn’t say a word. “I didn’t believe him at first because I was always told that he was dead. It all changed when my mother came.”
“Your mother?” he asked.
“Legolas she knew about him all along, she was a part of all of this.”
“That’s against the law,” he said sitting up. He called a guard and told him to ride to the town immediately to arrest Dineadale and to get Farin to safety.
He then laid down next to me, “We are going to question Dineadale and see what he knows when he gets back,” I nodded in agreement and went back to telling my story.
“When I saw my mother a part of me died, how could I trust anything that she ever said to me?”
“You can’t,” he told me.
“Exactly, I don’t know what was the truth or what was a lie. And that scared me. All along I thought my life was all sorted out when it never actually was. And what scares me even more is that I still have questions that are unanswered.”
“I will help you Eda, I will. I promise you that,” he said with a smile.
I turned and hugged him as tight as I could, “Thanks for everything.”
After a while we pulled back. “Eda I need to introduce you to some people,” he said then jumped down from the tree. I followed and he led me to the camp.
“Can I have your attention please!” his voice boomed across the land. I didn’t even know he could talk that loud. Within minutes everyone was gathered around, even Melui.
“I’m glad to say that Eda is safe and unharmed,” he started. I think I forgot to tell him about my raw wrists and ankles, oops. “The reason why she is safe because of you, and I can’t thank you enough for your effort and determination throughout this journey. Sadly the threat has not been defeated, but I hope Eda can help us bring them down with the information she gathered while she was held hostage.” Everybody nodded and was about to leave.
I looked at Legolas, “Can I say something?” He smiled and nodded moving behind me a little. “Um hello everyone,” I squeaked out. Let’s just say that speaking in front of other people isn’t something I’m confident in. “Without you I still would’ve been chained in a small tent with no food or water, without you I could’ve been dead, and without you I wouldn’t be standing here today giving my thanks. I know that all of you left family or somebody that you love behind to find me and it touches my heart that so many people were willing to fight for me. I would do the same for every single one of you. I am in debt to everybody here today because you were the light in the darkness.” At the end at my speech thing everybody started to clap and cheer, I even saw Melui clapping and smiling.
After a while the crowd dispersed and I turned to Legolas. He was looking at me with a frown on his face. “Chains?” he asked me. I looked down not answering his question. I felt his hand grab mine while the other pulled up my sleeve. It revealed the bloody skin that had been there for weeks. I’m surprised it didn’t bleed through the sleeve of my shirt. He then bent down and pulled up my pant leg revealing more torn up bloody skin. “I’m taking you to the doctor,” he said while pulling me to a fairly large tent.
“Legolas I’m fine,” I told him.
“You are not fine you are injured, that needs to be wrapped up so I doesn’t get infected,” he told me raising his voice a little. I dint argue anymore as he pulled me into the infirmary. He watched as the doctor put a herb mix onto the skin and then wrapped it tightly. The herbs hurt, a lot. Every time I wimped Legolas would squeeze my shoulder a whisper sweet nothings into my ear.
When we got out it was late and we both retired into our spate tents for the night.
I woke up to hear the camp being packed up, the sun was already shining and I knew I woke up late. I ran out of the tent looking for a certain blonde haired blue eyed elf.
“Are you looking for something?”
I turned around and smiled when I saw him, “Legolas you never woke me up!”
“Darling you needed the rest,” he said bringing me into a huge. “I didn’t want you to help since you’re injured.”
“Legolas I’m fine.” I argued.
“Nope, for the next couple of days you’re going to relax, nothing else.”
“And what if I say no?” I asked.
“It’s an order Eda,” he said smiling. Stupid elf.
I rode on the back of Legolas’s horse with Melui and my left and an elf I think named Adan on my right. By this point the rangers went their separate ways along with all the men. After a long day of riding we made it into Thranduil’s caverns safely.
The king himself was there to greet us.
Legolas lifted me off the horse and then went to his father giving him a hug.
“I see your mission is accomplished son,” Thranduil said looking at me.
Legolas smiled at me, “Yes father she is safe and I plan on keeping her that way.”
Melui walked up beside me and put an arm around my shoulder. “And who is that?” Thranduil asked.
“That is Eda’s brother Melui, he is going to help us take down the bandits,” Legolas explained to his father.
Thranduil looked over Melui, “If you say so,” was all he said.
Legolas nodded and looked back at me still smiling, “I will have some maids show you to some rooms, I will see you a dinner.”
I smiled back and I followed the maids into a beautiful room, where I got ready for dinner.
I walked into the dining hall more dressed up then I’ve ever been. I had on a light green dress with matching shoes, and my hair was pulled back into braids. Thranduil, Legolas, and Melui were there waiting for me already. When Legolas saw me he stood up and lead me to my seat next to my brother.
For a while we ate in silence then Thranduil asked Legolas, “Why is Dineadle locked up in my dungeons.”
“Well father,” Legolas replied, “It seems that Eda’s mother has broken a law and is married to two people.”
Thranduil lifted a bushy eyebrow, “Really?”
“Yeas father and we think that he knows something about these bandits,” Legolas explained. I noticed he left out the part of the lead bandit being my father.
“We will question him in the morning,” Thranduil announced.
“And what about Farin?” I asked. “Is he ok?”
Thranduil gave me a confused look, “Dineadale was the only one found in the house,” he told me.
I immediately stood up, “Show me where he is now!”
Thranduil along with some guards lead me, Legolas, and Melui down the Dineadale’s cell. As soon as he saw me he smiled. “The little girl came to ask questions I see.”
“Where is he?” I spat.
He laughed, “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”

Eda is back and safe and now Farin is gone!
