Chapter 13

01:43, 21 August 2021

Long chapter!! Yay! Sorry if the past few chapters have been boring. I've been trying to write some fillers in between actual scenes. Hope you love this next chapter!

Makayla's POV

Breathe.

Today has just been a ruff day.

It'll all be okay tomorrow.

I shake my head a couple times then lay on the ground. As overwhelming as life has been, I always felt better in my lioness form. The breeze in my fur, enhanced hearing and sight, and speed. This is how I was born, and it gave me comfort to live like a child sometimes.

Disliked or not, I'm still a Princess and they have to do as I say. I wonder if my father overheard the yelling. Is he going to speak to them?

Forget it.

I stand up, shake my fur, and walk towards the nearest tree. I release my claws and begin my ascent up the tree. Seeing the world from a different point of view is something I've always loved, and trees are the perfect place.

I begin licking my paw when I notice a tiny cut on my paw, nothing bad but I always want clean fur. As I finish licking the cut, I hear the ruffling of leaves below me. Is my mother, ghost thing, following me?

However, it was not my mother, it was Edmund. He was searching anxiously around the trees. "Makayla! Where are you?"

~~~~~
Edmund's POV
I've been searching for a while and I was close to giving up, but I couldn't.
"Makayla! Where are you?" I yell loudly.
I run my fingers through my hair. She is probably long gone. I get a friend and not an hour later she is gone.
Before I realized, I was face to face with a lion. A female lion to be exact.
"Makayla? Wow, you look pretty as a lion."
I could see her smirk and nod her head. I assumed it meant thank you.
"We should be getting back, your father is worried and my siblings don't know where I am."
She nods her head and falls in step with me. In her lion form she is much bigger than me. She has golden fur that shimmers softly in the light. She is beautiful.
I mentally shake my thoughts away. I'm only  fifteen, I can't be thinking of girls. Besides, she is only thinking of me as a friend.
I make my thoughts vanish as we finally arrive at camp. Makayla walked towards her tent quietly, making sure that no one came into eye contact with her. I watch her go then make my way towards my siblings.
They all have fearful expressions, yet seemed to not be mad.
"We were so worried!" Susan shouts.
Lucy runs up to hug me. "Aslan said you went to do something for him but never told us where!"
I grin. "I'm alright Lucy."
Peter stays back to give me space. I think he knew what I did. He nods and gives a small smile.
"Okay girls it's getting late and you both need to get your rest." Peter steps in to get the girls off me.
"Yes mother." Lucy says before sticking her tongue out.
"You little squirt!" Peter shouts causing Lucy to squeal and take off running.
Susan and I laugh. She wraps her arm around my shoulder and starts to walk towards the tents.
"Mom would be proud of you." She simply says.
I look at her confused. "For what?"
"I've seen you grow more here in Narnia then I've ever seen. You have learned consequences of actions, but also have learned how to lean on someone when your in need. Even though she is not here to say it, I will, I'm proud of you Edmund."
I give a small smile. "Thanks Susan, that means a lot to me."
She gives me a small squeeze and let's go to walk into her tent. I stand out in the open trying to process her words before smiling to myself and walking towards the tent that Peter and I share.
Peter was already asleep so I quietly lay on my back to look at the top of the tent. I finally realized how tired I am and how much stress this day really brought. Sighing, I turn on my side, close my eyes, and fall asleep from the gentle swing of the hammock.
~~~~Makayla's POV

Some days I feel like sleeping is pointless, and today is one of those days. After the events of the day, I can't even think of sleep. My nerves are on edge.

It gets worse when I see the outline of my father walked past my tent. What is he doing up this late? My thoughts are ended, however, when I see a small little figure walk by my tent not but a few minutes later. Lucy?

I decided that I wasn't going to sleep and wanted to know what was going on. I quickly put a coverup on, grab my axe, and follow after Lucy. She was hiding behind a tree as my father walked. Why is she following him?

"Lucy!" I whisper scream.

She jumps and turns around. "You scared me!" She whisper yells back.

"What you are two doing?" Susan asks from nowhere.

I shrug. "I saw Lucy following my father and was wondering what she is doing."

Susan and I look back at Lucy. She has a funny look on her face. "I don't know, I just have a weird feeling."

I understand because I've felt uneasy all evening, and not just about today. I don't know what is happening, but it's probably not good.

"What are you girls doing?" My father has stopped walking but hasn't looked back.

"Um-uh Lucy was worried about you and wanted to make sure your okay." I say.

He nods but still does not turn. "Katie, can I talk to you for a minute. You other girls go back to bed, everything is fine."

Katie? He hasn't called me Katie since I can even remember? Something definitely is wrong.

I look at Susan and Lucy and nod approvingly at them. They nod back and leave quickly to go back to their tent. I walk to stand in front of my father.

"Is everything alright father? You haven't called me Katie in a long time."

He nods. "Everything will be alright in due time. I need you to watch over the Kings and Queens, can you do that for me?"

"Your leaving again?!" I yell.

He lowers his head. "It's not like that this time."

"What do you mean then? Tell me!"

"I just need to be the brave warrior I know you to be. I need you to stay strong and don't let anything get to you. Did you know your axe has power?"

He was trying to change the subject and I was not having it.

"Where are you going?" I ask.

He looks me in the eyes, they were full of sadness and pain. I haven't seen him look like this since he left me here in Narnia at a young age.

"I will be back soon, but I need you to trust me. Can you trust me?"

I hesitate but nod.

"Good girl. Now,' my father uses his paw to point at my axe, 'your axe has a special power when you use it. It makes you stronger and at the worst times it will be there to help you. Your mother and I thought it would help you in troubling times. It has always helped you, but you haven't realized it's full potential."

I look down at my axe. The wood handle is carved with beautiful designs, and the metal has carvings around the edges.

"Mother came to speak to me. I- I couldn't do it. Not yet."

My father tries to give me a reassuring smile. "I know darling. She knew it would take some time, and she is willing to wait as long as possibly. When you are ready, just call her name and she will be there."

I smile. My mother has always had patience unlike any person I've ever known.

"Now,' my father continues, 'I need to go now. I love you Makayla, and don't forget it."

I wrap my arms around my father's neck and lay my head in his mane.

"I love you Daddy."

When I let go, he lowers his head and walks forward through the wood, while I prepare to be without my father yet again.

Yay! Another chapter finished! Such a good chapter! The Edmund/ Susan and Makayla/Aslan scenes were so precious! I'm loving this story and there is so much I want to cover...I can't wait!

See you in the next chapter!
